Cat,
My first post on here too (been interesting to see other people's views of CTC). I braved selection way back in the summer and am jetting off to NZ on Wednesday.

Sim check (stage 4) is the following day from stage 3, and accomodation was provided for us (at a cost of £40). For me personally I found stage 3 was the toughest but the CTC staff are excellent at putting you at ease and giving you the best chance of success.

I cant remember the exact 'essay' titles - but you can guess what they are anyway - example of teamwork, why do you want to be a pilot etc. Yeboin makes good comments with regard to completing them - make sure you take a copy before you send them off because you'll be asked on what you write at stage 3.

All the best,
Rob

Hello again Charlie Alpha,

Yep it isn't much fun getting binned but thats the way it is sometimes - a mate of mine got the old PFO after the sim ride! Harsh indeed. Its all part of the game though, if all wannabes gave up after one rejection there would be very few pilots about.

As for me yes I am going to self sponsor. I'm currently trying to finish off the PPL ( weather permitting ) and then a full time job and a hefty loan to get the required funds together!

All the best with your plans

Ctc-McAlpine/easyjet stage2 testing day...

Hello there people.

I realise that this subject has been covered in other guises elsewhere, but wanted to dedicate a new topic to it.

Was just interested to chat to anyone at this stage at the moment, should be going down there someday soon myself.

Also, anyone got any tips on things to research or practice? Is it true that you need to make a short presentation?

Are you wanting to discuss the Cadet Sponsorship Scheme, or is it the Type Rating Sponsorship Scheme you're interested in? They both use CTC.

He's talking about the cadet sponsorship scheme, as you can tell from the title of the thread.

Oxford?

Im sure it aint much fun getting binned and I'm not looking forward to if and when it happens to me! So are you going to go to the Oxford school and do the integrated course? I got them to send a brochure out, they have a selection phase too! With a sim check! As if it isnt enough that we're about to hand over 62K! I'm kinda worried about funding too, I think the bank will only lend 90%. So as far as the other 6K and living costs go I'm a bit screwed to say the least. How is the PPL going, are you solo yet ? Anyway, I'll stop blabberin

Catcha later, good luck

Cat,

Don't worry about finance, if you get in with ctc they sort it out for you, besides there is too much to worry about in life! I don't know what to make of Oxford, but as this is a ctc thread i better not start spouting on about it. I'll cross that bridge when I have the finance. PPL is good thanks, nav solo at the moment then qualifying xc, then skills test, then hourbuilding, then......

Let me know how you get on, think positive!

Question 500 hrs

Sorry for being slightly off topic but puzzled by upper hours limits for the CTC ATP scheme.
A discussion with CTC led to them denying that there was an upper limit. However, EasyJet and Thomas Cook both state on their websites that they take people from the ATP scheme with 500 hours or less.
Can anyone in the know tell me if airlines participating in the ATP scheme take people with, say 600 or 700 hours?
I don't want to spend £6K if I will just be left in the hold pool.

CTC hours?

Cloud chaser, if you have 6000 hours you are probably out of the game, it seems to be a scheme for low houred, talented individuals to get their foot in the door of a jet job.
Having said that I went through the scheme and on application had 900 hours. May have been on dodgy ground if I had any more though.

Seems that hours are not too much of a consideration then.

Greaser,

I've tried to PM you but not sure whether they've made it through. If possible, could you get in touch; I've got some questions for you.

EEEk?!

Hey all!

Does enyone else think I should be worried that I sent the online form to CTC on Wednesday and they have not came back to me on whether I'm fit to get the essay questions?! I suppose its less than a week ago but I cant help but hang on the edge of my seat! If I get PFO'd before the essay questions I'll be kinda hurt!

Anywho, hope everybody is well!

CharlieAlphaTango:

it takes roughly just over a week for them to get back depending on how busy they are, then i took about a three weeks to send the essay questions back which i passed at the beginning of this month and they took about four days to come back, im just waiting for at date for stage two.
looking at your CV on your earlier post i really dnt think ull have a problem.

Which is your prefered airline?? ive applied for both Easyjet and Thomas Cook but i would prefer Thomas Cook.
Cheers!!!

sigh of relief...

Cheers dude I feel much better now! I put in for easy and Thomas cook as well, to be honest I dont mind which I get, both are great opportunities. Why would you prefer Thomas Cook? Can I be nosy and ask what your spec is? i.e. have you a degree, much flying experience etc? Scoping out the competition! Only messing, just curious to know what sort of folk are in the same boat as me! (insert corny joke about not boat but plane here)

Anyways hope you get on well at the next stage, let me know how it goes!

hey CharlieAlphaTango

My A-levels arnt to hot but ive got an HND from Uni which counts for 3 A-levels that what they told me at CTC cos i to was worried about appling and not getting through plus im in my last year of a degree as we speak.

I would really like to fly the 757 thats why i prefer TCX,
as for easyjet i dnt know if ill enjoy 6 sector days 7 years from now. read the TIRED BUDGET PILOTS forum, i dnt mind working hard i just dnt want to burn out and end up lossing my medical, but thats maybe why easyjet are introducing the airbus cos this is a very automated aircraft and will ruduced the work load on pilots. apart from that im sure easyjet are a top airline to work for.
good luck with the questions!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a few queries, and am looking for someone to give their opinons on things for me.

I'm currently studying Computer Engineering at the Uni of Manchester. I am in my second year, and have an option to work in the IT industry in my third year and finish the degree in my fourth year or I can finish my degree next year without the year in industry.

From the selection point of view would it be better for me to finish my degree earlier or later, and if I did the year in industry would the selectors question my loyalty etc to wanting to become a pilot?

Also I've seen posts by other people saying they would leave uni (or equivelent) if they were selected, does that not show you lack commitment issues, and may flee from a pilots position for the airline you end up with as soon as you can?

Anyways, good luck to all in the scheme

Question

Thanks for the info guys.
Does anyone know how the airlines feel about people with over 500 hours going through the scheme?
As said earlier both easyJet and Thomas Cook say they take people with below 500 from this scheme. Thomas Cooks website

Hi, I was wondering also. Ive applied to both Ezy and Thomas Cook. But theres not much chance of getting Thomas cook tho is there? Their only taking a handful of pilots, whereas EZy have signed a massive contract.

Thomas Cook is my preferred choice...better destinations...bigger ac, better working conditions. Ezy work pilots like dogs....
