After reading that thread, i asked an EI manager in work was there any truth in it and he told me that it was being considered. Hopefully the €150,000 bit is bullsh1t though

hi guys, rumour has it that aer lingus pilots had a meeting last week and they are strongly considering starting up a cadetship again. i believe it will discussed at the upcoming agm.
There was a special general meeting of IALPA last week but that was to discuss the deteriorating relationship between us and management largely in relation to fatigue inducing rostering and the fact we yet again are facing a summer without enough pilots due to an almighty cockup. Many of us are now working to a 5 on 1 off summer roster with max duty days and a combination of earlies to lates and vice versa all in the same week.
All told I understand that there are at least 40 leaving for the likes of BA, Virgin and the Middle East with the number seemingly increasing as people get sick and tired of more crap. On top of that we lost the 70 most senior pilots at the end of last year. Not bad considering there was only about 550 of us all told.
But to bring this thread back on topic I am hearing rumours of a cadetship but have no information on the format it will take and whether any exchange of money will be involved.

from mcdu's post it is easy to see why aer lingus would be considering something like this, a steady stream of tailored pilots who are bonded to the operation. it would also be worth while financially to the airline. i think it will emerge sooner rather than later. hopefully they go back to the cadetship model. it would be great to see. ..

I agree with the_ace_of_spades.... I would love to see this type cadetship come back into the airline, and I for one will cherish the opportunity to apply for these roles. However it will be interesting to see what the t's&c's are like.
Corsair,
I can't see it coming back any time soon. Any news I've been reading about Aerlingus lately isn't good news thats for sure.

The ace of spades,
That is good to hear indeed. I hope things get a lot better for them.
Even if they do go ahead with the Cadetship, I still see it as a major risk at the moment. The figures will be big and I would love to know were the Irish wannabes are going to aquire the money from to fund the Cadetship IF it goes ahead.
Regarding the Flyer Expo I would also like to hear from anyone who was at it!

Back to topic: I haven't heard anything about a cadetship, but I can't see it as being beyond the realms of possibility as an MPL with guaranteed job, economy permitting. I would hope that IALPA would be able to get reasonable T&C's for the new guys if they're paying their own way to a (and you can bet your ass they would be!).

How will AL reduce the cadets wages to recoup their costs? There is no precedent for this from the cadet schemes which were run in the past.
We only have one agreed salary scale depending on which seat you occupy. Its all based on years of service and doesn't matter a dicky bird how you did your training.

Cadetship for AL, er reality check here, I would be more concerned that they actually manage to come out the other end of this "storm" with the problems they having. They are constantly on the news for the same reasons, more so than others, so not exactly a healthy airline.
Anyone considering this should tread VERY wisely, with the hope they will be around long enough to be able to fly for them - that's if they're not bought out by another airline first.

Are you sure......cadets historically started on a salary lower than those who weren't cadets! Don't think it ever changed....it just so happened it was 75% of the point 1 of the main scale.

Aer Lingus jobs, payscales and entry requirements.
yes the cadet salary is 75% of point 1 f/o salary. so recuperating the money seems like the way of old.

I have had to edit the thread because it was drifting away from the original topic.

I was at the Flyer exhibition in Dublin, it was pretty similar to what it has been the last 2 years. Same schools, maybe a few less this time round though. All the usual crowds.
However, the salesman at the FTE Jerez desk did tell me to keep checking their website, that they have a few Cadet schemes coming up over the next while and not with the usual Airlines such as Flybe etc.
Interesting.

FizzyD, I heard FTE say a similar thing at the London show. Did you get any hints at which airlines? I did hear that the TCX/Flybe scheme was unlikely to happen again this year. However I had heard rumours BA and Cityjet are going to run schemes, hadn't heard anything about Aer Lingus though. Would be interesting to hear what snippets of information anyone else has!
Aer Lingus held a seminar at the FLYER show.
On the topic of cadet schemes (and specifically the MPL), Malachy O'Curry stated that the MPL isn't particularly relevant to them as they don't do cadetships.
(The following isn't verbatim, but gives the gist of it)
"If we did [do cadetships], which we might, or might not, then we would, or wouldn't select the MPL, although it remains a possibility, or doesn't, but if it did happen then it would, or wouldn't, be sometime in the near, or distant, future (or past)."
That help ?
