I think your wrong, at the end of the test Capt Morris said "So what happens now? Your gonna get an email that says thanks but no or thanks, maybe." When he got to the part about the date you could tell he was uncertain and he even said 'don't hold me to it...2weeks'. He also said you may recieve an email before that time that saying you passed but don't believe it until the rest of the SYD and JNB have taken it
BTW I was talking to that girl , I forgot her name but she was an Air Canada Jazz flight attendant, and the only girl taking the assessments in NY,I should of gotten some contact info. Dang

Hmmm...not too sure I agree with your logic there on Ground effect malirm. Ground effect is just that. Ground effect. When ANY aircraft gets closer to terra firma, induced drag is reduced i.e. vortices are no longer able to meet up and the wing tips. If I am wrong, please correct and enlighten me. I like to learn
If memory serves me correct, the Flight Control Law on the BUS has a function called Load Alleviation. This functions maintains a certain 'G' when in flight mode. I believe ailerons and spoilers are used in this function. AFAIK, the 737 isn't equipped with a similar system. Again, I could be wrong.

Well, the point is, the generic approach to flying still is the same for both types [A&B]. In addition, the takeoff parameters such as T/O N1 data, FLEX temps etc are all programmed in the FMC prior to departure. Similar set up for boeing too...names of some parameters may be different but all in all, the same thing is accomplished at the end of the day.
Safe flying!
PS Nice threads man! Keep 'em coming! Ohh..I saw you 'macking' to that young lady infront of me. I was sitting right behind her. Green Shirt.
I heard from a pilot that the A320 has a higher ground effect when landing (lift reduces as it reaches the ground...negative vertical speed increases), while in the 737...The ground effect is lower...smoother landing, but sometimes you fight the 737 down when landing...
When going through my last assignment about the B777-300ER & A340-500 Auto Flight Control Systems...found out that the Boeings have smoother reactions to turbulences while Airbuses do have rigid reactions (certain popular cases)... & found out that the L1011s AFCS is better..., hope I helped (simply) enlighten other sides of this LONG comparison.
Yes it is similar but it is not the same, the airbus automates everything unless the pilot selects to turn something OFF. So it the process may be the same but the way in which they are carried out is completely different. You put the throttles full forward in an A320 the aircraft knows you're either taking off or going around, and it will set the engines to the proper N1 speed and temps (in a boeing you put the throttles full forward then retard them to get to the proper %age and temp settings ), also the auto throttle is automatically engaged so there is no reaching up to flip a switch (unlike boeing which requires you to do so).

Well...I spent 3 weeks collecting data from ARGs & other info sources (contacted Airbus & Boeing Middle-East) + Assignment oral review, I was talkin about the 777 & the 345...I tried it...went to JFK in a 345 & back in a 777, although weather conditions are not the same everyday, found the Boeing much comfortable (when snowing).
Its like BMW or Mercedes...where everyone has his own cons & pros...I will ask my Avionics Engineer & go through the ARGs (Aircraft Reference Guide)...I have the whole Boeing fleet (737 to 777) & the A320-200 + A330-200 + A340-500 Familiarization presentations (might get something)...I'm ready to get this on for my Graduation Project...
Back to Piloting, I got a Scolarship from DAE Flight Academy...one of the top schools in Asia, just have to reply before Nov., what would you go for guys; a scholarship course (no pay back on a Pro Rata basis) but mostly end up in a A320 of a sponsor (unknown airline) or EY cadet pilot...NOTE: DAE company ordered over 100 aircrafts for Leasing...they might use their own pilots to fly for an airline...

Good luck to you. Ohh...keep me informed with the info you get in the ARG. I like to learn!
Cheers all

I landed arounded 5.15pm on the 24th and saw the beast parked
Man she's a beauty and ironically, right beside it was a 747!
Thats another one crossed off the to-do list

Bradda, of course the same thing is accomplished the flying stays the same the planes just get bigger. The thing is the whole functionality between airbus and boeing is much different. The airbus product makes sure that inmost instances you cannot exceed certain parameters, unlike boeing who is just... well, boeing.
Bottom line, the airbus is more user friendly and makes it easier to transition through the models.Im gonna try to post some stuff.

I have been inside the Emirates A380 when it was visiting SFO 2 weeks ago. My brother's friend works for Emirates' SFO supply company and he was able to bring me up there for a few minutes.
It is HUGE! I was like OMG when I was upstairs and saw the first class cabins - individual suites with door! Not to mention you get to take a shower at 40k feet.
I wasn't allowed to bring my camera, otherwise I would love to share some images from the trip.

lets consider, if they were paying $36000 annually ($3000 per month) and then 40% from that, would bring the annual pay to $21600...(a lot less than what majority makes)... money is certainly not an issue for me, but thats what i feel that ppl would be interested... i mean its a great program, but then some ppl would be concious about the wage...
But then It's about the flying for me too. I hope it is for every person who gets the cadetship.

I loved watching the 727 take off runway 19, yes 19, not 14 but tell me why we could hear the APU all the way from the other side of D+K.The 727 APU is as loud as both the G-IV's engines at half power. It's a nice plane but due to it's swept wing on landing if you did not have enough power it would sink...fast.
On another note I am guessing that the handling of the A319,A320,A321 would be the same since they all have the same wingspan. I am preparing some pictures to post I'm not done yet.

@ Dubble_Dubble & A380
You are lucky...I saw it in 3 different Situations:
1-Dubai Airshow 2005
2-Dubai Airshow 2007
3- Hangar G in DXB Emirates Engineering (Lay-Over) & for a GVI (General Visual Inspection)...man it was HUGE (specially when you stand under it), I had my supervisor shouting at me when I touched the Elevators...I got my head hit the flap fairings too ...that was on the 19th of Aug 08...

Yay!
I booked my tickets on Sunday already... my family lives in Joburg so I get to see them! I'm going up on Wednesday evening and leaving on Thursday night.
I've just received the email telling us when and where. So excited!

Yeah man! I remember a few departures off RWY 19. When the 727 is light, the bird can really go! Have you ever seen 'em do a "soft field" takeoff on 14? They do it when they are not so heavy and want to rocket off on FRG 3 departure with those JT8D low bypass turbofans. Wonderful aircraft to work with. As tough as RAMBO! Only aircraft that competes with the 727 for the world's loudest WHINER is the Lear 24. Those CJ610's pack a serious punch on the decibel scale! Try marshaling one of those whiners off your ramp. Your ears will ring like a bell!
As for the lil buses' handling, they all handle the same bro'. That's the nature of FBW.
Regards,
Bradda
