During the cockpit inspection you notice that the weather radar is out of order. Unfortulatly there is no way to have a look at the company procedures (no MEL on board). The weather at destination is CAVOK.

What do you do as a low houred co-pilot ?

If you're a low houred co-pilot you will tell the Captain who will make a decision on it. If you're the Captain you will call the engineers to bring the MEL to the a/c so you can consult it before departure. If you're at an out station, you will 'phone a friend' with reference to the MEL. Unlikely you wouldn't have one on board in the first place!

Skywaytoheaven thanks for your input. But still, imagine that no one is available and you are 10 minutes before pushback. Your cpt says he is going withaout being able to look at the MEL. What will be your reaction ?

Depends on the forecast weather conditions, if Cb's are not likely to be encountered then I would be ok to go. If Cb's are reported and forecast then you would have to engage in a 'discussion' with the Captain.

yarpy,

That's not the worst question the shrink asked at the britannia interview. How about:

Are your parents still together?
Are you in a stable relationship?

I WOULD NOT BOTHER TO MUCH ABOUT STUPID QUESTIONS DURING THE INTERVIEW.JUST BE HONEST IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO, OR LIE!

lOOK AT WHAT THEY ASK FOR CABIN CREW, DO YOU LIKE NICE ROOMS, NICE PLANES,TO TRAVEL WORLDWIDE?

OF COURSE, ALL THESE LADIES SAY "YES" AND THEY ALL FIT THE BILL, AND AT THE END, MANY OF THEM ARE JUST TURNED DOWN...

SO TAKE IT EASY, AND BE PREPARED TO BE REJECTED LOT OF TIME IN THIS BUSINESS!! BECAUSE WE ARE ALL A BUNCH OF LOSERS!

A320...

I wonder if you're one of those who bought a TR. Sorry but I think U should be a bit more positive, mate. At least do it for the money you're burning! Personally I don't think I am a loser, just one of those who weren't born with a silvers spoon in his mouth.
Hope the TR will take you to the place you're looking for but if it doesn't it means that those like me don't want to enter this lottery are (partially) right. This tread was meant to collect experiences not bad feelings, so help or just read.

This is a true story,

Just imagine you are sitting in a room with two senior pilots and a really good looking psychologist,
One of them asks you if you, if you find her good looking,
If the answer is Yes, and trust me, it can only be YES
Then the other guys asks you, if you would shag her.

I´ve also heard about people being asked to sing a song in a interview.

Spain is different...

Q: Is there any reason why you couldn't start a TR training course at the end of January?

A: Yes, that's when our first baby is due.

That was when they really seemed to lose interest, and the "we're not taking things any further" call came 2 days later.

So instead of a trip to foreign climes to ride a nice sim, I watched our son being born. Wouldn't have missed it for the world!

(Missed out on applying for the PPRUNE /Astraeus TR scheme for exactly the same reason as well)!

The case is not to be turned down cause an open question interview face to face,

the question is to be putted of, cause a psicott. test, with 9 subjects from ......................how many figures do you remember.......or a snake game.......... this s. much more, since a pilot that plays with games more than me , might have more succes in such a test,
And above af all, after having done a selection with almost 300 applicants , been in the 21 selected, a Doctor say............you do not fit our requirements...... how would you feel? try to explain him I stayed in the jungle to build up time to upgrowing my cv.........

So here I am , at home, after 2 years, as many of us I think...........................they only thing I learn is that I have to play more with games, ..........

The chance to have a CHANCE I think is first of all close all the flight schools, so when the market will need pilots open FTO again.......

@ papazulu
because of his variety of life experiences he was unfit to become a pilot
just tell your friend not (in no case) to be worried about this unqualified comment.

e.g.: I had to listen to exactly the same comments on my very 1st interview (which was a long time ago with a well known (big) European airline). Before that, I passed all the 2-days-long recruiting-tests fully satisfactory and at the final interview:.....??... "see quote".

I was mentally, psychically completely destroyed. For a damned long, long time.
Such a comment was and still is just irresponsible, degrading, inhuman. The comments were done by a student psychologist and the (ex-military) fleet-chief.
Those guys wanted a straightforward -pilot- life, which is for them, when your
1st word is: aircraft
1st picture is: aircraft
1st hobby is: aircraft flying
1st experience is: a..licker

Tell your friend to forget this company and the interview asap. They don't want intelligent life experienced human beeings - those companys want only MONKEYS, or uncritical mother's darlings! (and: see 1st experience).

But never ever someone with
different life experiences, international travelling, multicultural job experiences an so on
I am shure he will find a job in another, a real GOOD company (as I did).
Tell your friend not to give up ! Finally, he should see their arguments to refuse the application, as a big compliment to his personality.

Some of these questions may be very clever and some may even be good but some of these are appallingly unprofessional! HR as discipline has been around for decades. And this is all they can come up with?! And for what? To prove that you can be bullied?!

Imagine yourself as an interviewer asking that kind of a question of an applicant. I'd feel

I've been to many interviews but I'm not sure I'd ever want to be 'prepared' for questioning along these lines!

I've always hated "Can you tell me of a time when you had to stand up to a manager against their decision"

Namely cos that hasn't happened to me that often and it's very hard to sound positive and like a fab potential employee without slagging off your managers procedures.
