Space Odyssey - you made a number of incredulously positive posts about your employer over a short period of time. I asked if you were being frivolous after several of your posts.

I am well aware that the medium often fails to convey the spirit in which a post was written. However, the number of posts you made suggested to me you were being serious, thereby, being a pillock.

I am glad to hear that you did indeed have your tongue firmly planted in your cheek.

Cheers,

There are a lot of people who are looking to spend an awful lot of money on their training. For many it is a make or break choice.

They dont need someone like you posting stupid comments. If you are taking the p*ss, make it clear from the start, or, better still leave it for the pub.

Hello!

Just reading up on the info on Pprune about Air Atlantique. Do any of you guys know if the current sponsorship is the 50:50 or Fugly course?

What is the 50;50 and Fugly courses all about?

Ya know about the selection process, aptitude tests are my main concern?

One more question- know where I can get some more info on the company...Like to know my stuff if I get to the interview stage!!??

Thanx guys.

CG

Ps. there's a lot of peps with stronge opinions (good and bad) about the company, aint there!!

Career Girl,

The tests are the Mcquaig personality profile and aptitude tests and if you do a search on them you should find some information which will help you. If you PM me I can give you some more info.

Have any of you that applied received any details about attending an assessment?

The reason I ask is that I have just been told the Sponsorship Scheme has been but on hold until the end of January.

The management have decided there is no need for any new pilots at the moment and have put the whole thing on hold.
They took on one sponsored pilot recently but thats all.

Guess I'll just have to hang on for a couple of months!

First stage interview

I have been invited to attend a first stage interview on Wednesday. Any of you guys going?

The sim ride is apparantly in a Beech 200 downgraded to act like a 310! Oh my God! the biggest thing I have flown is a Pawnee.

Congratulations Wireless! I have yet to hear anything back! Do you have the sim ride / flight test at the first stage or do they get you doing the aptitude tests first?

Look forward to hearing how you got on - best of luck!

Hi all.

I wasn't aware until I read this thread that Air Atlantique were offering any form of sponsorship. Is there a deadline date for applications - I wrote to them asking about sponsorship but have heard nothing back yet.

Thanks

James

Thanks Catherine. I'll let you know how it went. The letter states that there are some personality profile and occupational papers to sit. I asked about these. Apparantly they aren't so much tests, with right and wrong answers, more so they are just an assessment of what you are like as a person. I think the actual flight assessment is conducted on the second stage.

Has anyone got any tips? I really would like to prep up on the company profile and the current fleet. I have some knowledge of how Mike Collett started the group but I understand that things are in a transient period at the moment so there are changes afoot. If Space Oddessy could fill me in that would be readily appreciated. Btw Have any of you guys heard anything yet?

I will let you into a wee secret so you don't put your foot in the poo.

If you meet a shortish lady with a filthy laugh. She is actually the chief training captain. And more than likely the person who will do your sim ride.

Thanks Odyssey

The reason I asked about the company profile is that I presume that I'll be asked what I know about them at the interview. I have been to previous interviews and favourite questions were along the lines of what aircraft do we have in our fleet and how many? etc. Your response has filled me in on the fleet. I want to ask a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. Do recon still have the marine spraying contract. I know that they still have the DC3s as you have listed them. As said this may seem stupid if you know all about Air Atlantique group but I have heard many differing versions about this. I just don't want to appear out of date in my research of their operations.

Cheers for the info. Bill

I had to read through your posts a couple of times before making these comments, but I do now with little hardship.

You, are a prick.

You have done nothing for the scheme, nor the company that offers this opportunity.

Your attitude is not the common theme within the group or the people that I had met on my visit to AFT. I made a fairly lengthy trip to Coventry to discuss the scheme and found the information provided by the training provider and the current cadets invaluable.

I’m sure that if the group knew you had decided to represent the company and the scheme in this way, you would be hung, drawn and quartered - or maybe you’re the bloke that’s not long been kicked out of the scheme for being - hmm - a prick!!

Answer is no doubt on a postcard.......

GW, I don't know who you are - though I'm sure I could find out - but I would remind you that it's best to make your point through the strength of your argument, not the strength of your language. Personal attacks - including calling another Ppruner a 'prick' - are not allowed. I would ask you to modify your approach to others if you wish to continue posting on Pprune.

Space_Odyssey,

I am sure there is also a Kingair that operates out of Blackbushe.

Settle down geostrophic-wind

Before you ask, Yes I do work within the Atlantic group and everything space-odyssey said was pretty much spot on.

If you are going off at him because he's spilled the beans on the AFT expectation that cadets will work hard, during anti-social hours, doing manual ops related duties, ask any single person who's been through that scheme and they'll tell you as much.

If you are afraid of a bit of that, or indeed of getting your first few hundred flying hours by virtue of flying low level orbits in some battered uncomfortable old cessna twin, hundreds of miles out over some very very cold deep water, then Atlantic is not the place for you because that is exactly the way it is.

Now that we've cleared that up, hands up who still wants a fully sponsored frozen ATPL?

Golly gee I do believe we might still get enough people applying to fill a course or two.

And don't misunderstand me, it's a brilliant opportunity for those who are up for it. Don't be put off by the lack of glass cockpits and pretty blondes serving your coffee in the cruise and all that , it's a good company with some excellent people in it and those of you who have the right mental attitude will have the time of your lives.

Air Atlantique sponsorship.

I have to agree with the last post as it pretty much sums up my thoughts and experience of the company.

I tried for the sponsorship scheme many (many) years ago but was turned down because I didn't have a driving license! It became obvious to me that you were really going to have to 'work' to get your 'free' ticket. I personally wasn't too impressed either with the idea of everyone calling me a "fugly". But each to their own. If it means you are getting a 'free' CPL/IR from them with some guarentee of employment afterwards then I think most people would want to bite their hand off.

For me, I have no regrets.

I think you will find that space is a fugly doing his time at 100ft mid channel in an islander. And as such proberly giving a more realisitic point of view than the marketing blurb.

The 100% deal is actually giving you a whole lot more than a normal Fatpl course.

ops officer: 6 months knowing how operations have to work is a god send.

Apron Handeling: being at one with a tractor and tow bar (its a lot harder than it looks)

Crewing: When you go on line you will already know all the faces because you have driven them round the UK for the last 2 years.

Aircraft: Access to one of the last of the big avgas burners in the UK.

You just couldn't buy the training they will give you for nothing.

Space you havn't got a thing going for cath do you?

Thanks for the info folks. For me the hands on approach that this company has is something that attracts me not puts me off! I have had plenty of rubbish jobs over the last 6 years whilst saving hours etc and it would make a change to at least be working in an aircraft environment (currently I'm an HGV driver, away all week working 65 hours a week).

I'll give it a go. It looks tough so I may well not succeed but at least I would have had a pop! I'll let you know.

Space Odyssey and Luke Sky Toddler,

Due to the fact to have a very good idea whats happening within the company do you know anything regarding my earlier post about the Sponsorship being suspended?
Have Air Atlantique filled all their vacancies and are just turning down anyone that applies from now on?
Would be grateful for any info!
