The ATP freighters have they got a new home with Atlantic Airlines?

Now G-JEMB is registered to them will the other two be destined for a new life down Coventry way?

Good to see there is some movement with some of the aircraft and hopefully some crews will find a new home as well.

Good luck for 2007 for the rest.

Aircraft Registration

According to the CAA G-INFO website all the ATP's (5) are registered to the Company that bought them (PTB (EMERALD) PTY LTD), not Atlantic Airlines.
Although it is quite feasible that G-JEMB, which is the bulk freighter, would be used by Atlantic Airlines (possibly to supplement or replace the Magic aircraft, which is also a bulk freighter - no Large Door), I can't see them interested in A or C which are both passenger aircraft, unless they can do a deal with Bae for the supply of new doors?
As for D & E, the two aircraft that were converted by Bae for Emerald with LFD's, well who knows? Is 'E still in BUH? And 'D was robbed for parts to keep the other 3 flying, would need considerable spend just to get it airworthy, then they would need to put the cargo interior in.........
However if they have these new contracts for the CI, who knows?

lastofthefew 9th January 2007 13:48

Never has so much been owed to so many by so few !!!!!!!!!

Anyway. JEMD will be re-built using spares that are at BPL. A & C will attract interest as companies scramble for the few ATPs still out there. Westair hope to have 28-30 ATPs ( less than 20 at present) Magic hope for 5-10 and Atlantic about the same if not more. Of course dont forget India. ATPs req'd there. BPL hope to have Jar145 re-instated and from there who knows. It has been stated that they will not operate a/c, only lease. Is the market really that tied up ?

Bonne année du sud de France :ok:

boredcounter 9th January 2007 17:35

Thought I read somewhere India banning the import over aircraft over 12 years old. That would kill it for the ATP surely.

I understand that International Air Parts of Australia
http://www.intl-air-parts.com.au/front_page.html
have bought all the 748s and intend to restore them all to airworthy status except the series 1 G-BEJD which they intend to donate to Duxford as it is the last commercial airworthy series 1 in the world. Who flew her last sector. Stand up that now famous budgie pilot:D :D .
The others are to be marketed worldwide but potential customers include UK based operations.
Be lucky
David
P.S. Highest time 748 is now c/n 1640 flying as C-GJVN over 62,000 hours. Good old Avro.

Yak97 10th January 2007 12:58

G-BEJD

If this is true, this is a nice suprise.

It was suggested to the previous management at JEM that 'JD went to Duxford when it was going through one of it's many withdrawl's but all they wanted to do was chop it up, like all her sisters (no soul some people).

It would join the other great British civil aircraft at Duxford: Concorde (yes I know the French had a hand in it too...), VC10, Britannia, Comet, Viscount, Herald.

Who'd of thought a Series 1 would outlast Concorde?

The AvgasDinosaur 10th January 2007 18:03

Slightly O/T but what the hey!!!

Not directly Emerald related, but the aircraft might be.

Avgas

Cheers mate :D
Only had the pleasure of working full time with the mighty Budgie for a short time in the early 90's and that brought the memories flooding back! The Dart just sounds fantastic, though pre H&S police, guess I may curse that whistle when premature deafness sets in.
In 18 months of working with 2 series 1(As?), that were appraching 30 then, I can only recall the loss of 2 sectors tech! Now that I think speaks volumes for the design, not only airframe, but the fabulous but somewhat thirsty Dart.
Lets hope there is a lot of life left in the ex-JEM girls yet and some work for the people too.
Again, I have only had minimum dealings with JEM, in the days when they had a couple of pax 748s in the 90s Subbed them in a few times, bloody good bunch at ground level and the crews just as good. Remember one of their flights for us leaving a tyre at BHX on route to NCL. Before I could phone and let them know, JEM on the phone with schedule of (gratis) freighter ex LPL to NCL with spares, 'sorry the Southbound will take a delay'. That was customer service never to be forgotten.
Can anyone from JEM confirm the fate of GDAAL, used to be one of the girls I worked with, ex GBEKG, guess the scrap man got her?
Cheers

G-DAAL

Met her end in 1996/7 with an appointment with the scrapman.

Shame as she was at one time G-VAJK in a 33 seat business class layout with hot galleys etc.

The AvgasDinosaur 11th January 2007 08:07

She was deregistered as withdrawn from use 18th March 1997 and reduced to spares at Blackpool as G-DAAL.
Hope it helps

it was a pleasure to be there on that day and watch Roly give it one final thrashing out of LPL... at what looked like about 1m above the runway!!!

The old girl deserves her place in aviation history... as many of those who flew her said.... she was the "queen of the skies"

boredcounter 12th January 2007 11:14

Too many parallels,
Reminds me of the last Maersk 1-11 retired, off to CVT it did go.
All the staff that could get away watched about three or so passes over the runway at BHX from the roof of Head Office. Then a flyby down the A45 past head office, a waggle of the wings in salute to a fantastic machine as a final goodbye. Alas it was goodbye.
Let's hope someone keeps the 748 flying in the UK, not just a memorial to great aircraft design, but the spirit of aviation many have tried to keep alive.
Wish I knew then..........................If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going, no, Biggles up the front, 60's British technology, three more days to get there...........fine by me.
The manufacturers have gone, the airlines are going.

Crewing

Dear all
I am sourcing crews current on the 748 to ferry one from BLK to DAC in the near future. If anyone can assist, please PM me. I will need as much information about your qualifications as possible i.e. total time, availability etc.
Many thanks

G-BEKG

Shame to hear about Kilo Golf being scrapped; I was a flying spanner with her for a while and we did the 88/89 Paris-Dakar without any snags other than a broken steering cable. Good old girl...

GBALU53 13th January 2007 13:15

From what we are reading there is hope for some Budgies at least to keep going providing there is trill around for some time to feed them.

The 748 has a long standing connection with the Channel Islands, going back to the days of Channel Airways and Roussean Aviation.

I do hope the Series One does go down to Duxford I am shaw they will find room even if it is next to another similar aircraft that was not as succesfull but was a work horse as well the Handley Page Dart Hearld.

I and others hope we can see and hear some of these aircraft flying back in the U.K. skies again.

Good Luck and best whishes to the new owners of these budgies.:ok: :ok:

I'm back

Hi everyone

A very belated Happy New Year to one and all.
Not had the Internet since mid-Nov but reconnected today after many heated discussions with BT!
New job going well. Industrial window cleaners and aircrew all have something in common - expenses chasing!! Nothing new there then.

Thanks to everyone for all their messages over the festive period and for keeping in touch.

Congrats to those cabin crew who I believe are going to Globespan.

Ta ta

What Tribunal?

Dear ex-emerald chaps,

does anyone know about the results of a "tribunal" in Liverpool, which I heard found against Emerald recently? Do we need to get onto KPMG? Is there any hope of getting some of the money that we are owed?

best wishes to all,

BWK

JUSTWANTTOFLY 30th January 2007 17:40

Tribunal found against Emerald, you need to contact Insolvency Service - 01313165600

EI-CGO 30th January 2007 19:39

I believe HMCE are hunting down the two 'builders'.

Seems like they may well have to give up those home comforts that came at the expense of jobs and pensions after all.

Well, what goes around as they say.............

EX FLYJEMER 5th February 2007 14:58

Your right what goes around defo comes about just a matter of when.:}

I hear on the grape vine the ex CEO is over seas planning to meet up with old aviation pals requesting a gab, beer and women, so now then Ops DO as per your pm sk must be single then Yabba dabba doo!! if he is behaving like that he must be CRAZY!!. Dont take the wrong way anybody just some playful banter between two, ta for the pm it gave me a right chuckle.

Hows are queen bee doing in her new job? glad all is going well for you AB.

A new year, a new beginning in all.;)

Heard some redundancy pay has started to be paid.....anyone received any yet ??

straightnotlevel 15th February 2007 08:55

got some cash yesterday into my bank a/c.
not sure if its the final payment, but was a decent amount considering i thought we were going to get sweet FA.

also saw JEMB in the atlantic hangar in CVT, with the last traces of emerald being sanded off.
never did like those green carpet tiles.
will try to upload a photo.

Redundancy Payment

A credit went into my bank recently from The Redundancy Payments Office. It is about 15% of what I was owed, but better than a kick in the teeth.

If anyone thinks they have been missed out they could check 0131 316 5600!

Just found this site. Having worked for Emerald for five years then retired,it saddens me that this has all happend. I made a lot of friends whilst at work, and i would like to wish everyone from flight deck to engineering all the best and to let them know there is life after Emerald.:) :) :) :) :) . Illigitimus non tateum carborundum.:ok: :ok:

Captain Mainwaring 2nd April 2007 15:49

I have just found a £10 Sainsbury's voucher from 2004!
This came with a nice card from Andy & family the year before he stopped sending even a Xmas card.
I am in a dilema as to whether i should:
1) Send it back to Andy Janes because he probably needs it more than me
or
2)Spend it on alcohol?

The AvgasDinosaur 2nd April 2007 16:01

One could always frame it, Sir.

CAP509castaway 2nd April 2007 17:08

Dont worry about AJ I hear that he is starting up again with a couple 748's BLK to IOM.
Maybe I'll get a command there if I hand over the necessary bond !!!:} :} :}

Captain Mainwaring 3rd April 2007 14:06

Perhaps A.J could buy a copper bracelet with the £10?:{

EI-CGO 5th April 2007 20:00

Which 748's is he going to start with ?

Are they the ones the current owner has already sold because he got a better CASH offer ?

In anycase, what would the Recievers/Bailiffs and Job Centre staff at Benfleet do with their time if this ever (unlikely as it is) gets off the ground.

You can just picture the scene at the Manchester Regional office as each FOI trys to sneak the AOC application on to another FOI's desk :)

Captain Mainwaring 6th April 2007 11:47

Let's hope that Wendy Crick and Murtagh fight for the privilege of dealing with it!

cruiseczechs 11th April 2007 10:13

Airliner world article

For those of you that are interested, there is a three page article in Airliner
World with some sorry looking photos of the fleet.

The article states that all the 360's have gone to BAC Express, three 748's are going to Bangladesh and MJ may be going to Duxford, and JEMB has been leased to Atlantic Airlines.

Almost a year on, it still saddens me.

EX FLYJEMER 12th April 2007 08:29

All seems such a long time ago now folks

AJ must be crazy starting up again if those rumours are true

Captain Mainwaring 12th April 2007 09:30

As we approach one year on is everyone now sorted with employment ?

Everyone i knew has found employment of some sort or another.

EX FLYJEMER 12th April 2007 10:21

I believe most of us have found employment now, unsure about the ex-management though?

flight lad 17th April 2007 13:09

whats mob and sk up to now?

EX FLYJEMER 18th April 2007 07:20

Who know's you hear so many different rumours about all the ex ea folk. Someone told me they are living over sea's, vv happy. Another says he is planning on moving to the far east to work and leaving hotty sk behind-----who could do that!!

Who knows and who really cares any more main thing is most of us have found work and found the grass is greener.

Good luck all :)

Germstone 20th April 2007 17:54

G-BGMN had some air under her wheels today first time since it all went pear shaped.

departed BLK around 4-15 pm for some airtests

EX FLYJEMER 25th April 2007 11:45

Good point bat man and your right knowing him she probably is still a secret, funny or what.!

OPSQUEEN 27th April 2007 20:51

Queen B is doing just fine thanks and very settled in new job which has lots of prospects, although still miss the Airport a lot and the folks in it.

Communications now restored having been off the air from last December ...............

Hi to everyone.
