So Very Sad

The demise of Emerald was inevitable !

Poorly qualified and inexperienced senior management with little to offer other than bullying, bluff and bravado. Talked a good talk ( to those that were prepared to listen ) but was seen through by the CAA FOI's and customers alike. ( the PO never rated MOB - was seen for what he was - a wide boy ! )

A very good team of dedicated aircrew, engineers and ops staff that managed to keep the 'show on the road' despite allof the obstacles!

AJ was warned time and time again by the likes of Barry W and Alan F ( engineering ) and Ian F that his Accountable Manager would bring him down. Needless to say their voices went unheard.

Good luck to all - you will look back in the years to come and think - did I really put up with that???

This sentiment is understandable from those who have been gone from Emerald a while and are safely in employment. I would guess that feellngs are very raw for those now unemployed. Wondering whether they can afford to feed the family or find work with a useless rating. It is still early days and it is to be expected that people will want to 'get things off their chest' about it.
I for one had to put up with all sorts of sh1t from MOB over a number of years and remain quiet. I ain't staying quiet now that that tosser has screwed all my ex-colleagues. I won't be reminiscing for a while yet.

Woman - where on Earth are you?

Been following this thread over the weeks and I've come to realise that there were a lot of decent people I came into contact with whilst there.
AF 'you can call me Al' never failed to raise a smile and MH was a true gent.
I did enjoy most of my time there and it was the people who made it.
I'm sorry to see it go even though I left some time ago. I sincerely hope that the people affected by this news get themselves sorted out pretty quickly.

RC - if you're reading this - get in touch Woman!!!!
There could be some Kilfrost going cheap!

How come regional airlines seem to be lions led by donkies? Excuse the cliche but all their bosses seem to have amazing similarities; autocrats, penny pinchers, unwilling to listen to staff, hateful of training expenditure, great suckers-up to their bosses, track record of taking companies into liquidation, developing a "blame and punish" culture.

Eg, one CEO oversaw Alidair,Birmingham Exec(cant remember exact name) go to the wall, was allegedly kicked out with literally ten minutes notice to get off the premises of both Gill Airways and Jersey European (Flybe) having taken them to the edge but not conducted himself properly(twice).
Another took a small regional based in Dundee and then Air Ecosse into liquidation. He was then put in charge of Gill and very shortly saw it being sold for £1. Yet he was kept on as commercial manager and later despite many stupid decisions and later seeing Gill incur a £20,000,000 loss in one year he was still kept on.

These and other managers of other current regional airlines seemed obsessed with penny pinching yet are very much pound foolish.Tales of huge waste abound (keep quiet Emerald crews!).

If something goes wrong which is frequently they always have to blame and punish someone else. It never has anything to do with them. This blame culture is extremely bad for air safety as everyone tries to cover up mistakes. As we all usually there are several similar incidents that precede an accident.

Also most of them have nil in the way of qualifications. How do they manage to get these positions?

Word is that a decision will be made this week. Those parties in the running, of which I believe there are 3 are already in aviation. They want ALL the aircraft. Therefore those drivers twiddling their thumbs, dust of your headsets and pretend you know what your doing again. It won't be Emerald thats for sure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting.

Its not far from the truth, however the TWO prospective buyers (I have stated 2 for the last 3 weeks or so because I know for a fact one does not have the money they say they do) and in particular the one who I am hearing are the favourite, would have to put the 748 on their AOC and the authority seem keen to see 'new blood' on the training side of things and a few other changes. Initial 'discussions' between the authority from at least one of the bidders indicate that the 748 will take 3/4 months to get into the air again.

The mess created by a certain Accountable Manager makes it impossible to simply 'buy' a ready made AOC with aircraft types etc on it, both operators will have add aircraft types to existing AOC's, one of which 'may' not even be a UK AOC !

Be very wary of anyone that tells you differently, ask anyone involved in this 'due dilligance' and they will tell you that its gone far beyond just buying an AOC and starting to fly the week after, there is the small matter of a 'start afresh' maintenance programme that will be required, and a 'fresh' new set of postholders, whilst both bidders have AOC's only one is in a position to move quickly on any of the above.

Authority wise it will be like starting with a blank sheet of paper, and with the history of this sorry affair you can bet your life no one will be breaking their backs to run to break any records in getting the thing up and running again.

However its not all doom and gloom, expect the deal to be done next Wednesday and some of the Shorts will certainly be plying their trade with either sucessful bidder in a much shorter time.

Angel Training Requirements

I'm interested in finding operators of the ATP or HS748 who might need some groundschool training. If any of you fine chaps are moving on to such organisations please feel free to drop me a line.

It's been quite lonely for the last few weeks......
