Yes. Thanks for clarifying that up. It is correct that expatriates are slowly being rescinded out of the company. Several are flying with Jetstarasia as well. But back to the thread. It is ironic to find that ALMOST every airline applicant in this whole forum will get news that would discourage from ever joining this profession. Most have truths to what is being said but it is depressing for a new joiner to ever see that there is probably no Airline he can join today who will screw him over, delay his progression, piss poor rostering in some cases, bad management , bad staff benefits and having this impending doomsday approaching environment surrounding him everywhere he faces. What and who then would be the best place to join today then? The grass is always gonna be greener on the other side but for now, I don't see a mass exodus of pilots leaving HK for that matter.

Given an unlimited supply of it money, I would certainly never visit China, HK, Taiwan or most of Asia every again, let alone work here.
No wonder you are so miserable and angry. You should just leave now. Muppet.

Is it possible for a HKA A330 skipper to commute within Asia?

Algol 23rd Mar 2012 00:54

No skippers may commute in Asia.
Only F/O'S.

Where you wanna commute to?

Che Xindamail 23rd Mar 2012 01:35

Algol, do you mean that the rosters make it difficult to commute, or that the company require Captains to live in HK? Just wondering if they get enough days in a row to commute to Thailand or Malaysia for instance. How many days off do you get on average?
Thanks.

This Demise is taking a long time!!

Molokai 23rd Mar 2012 03:17

All those recalcitrants, doomsayers, mischievious renegades, etc tried their very best to bring doom and gloom if not the eventual demise of HKA. Maybe they will try this; looks like most descendants of colonisers teach their offsprings to kick the down trodden :

How are they going with the London flights? I guess with all those high yield pax on board they must be raking in the cash? And seeing as they are operating to London at this time of year I assume they must have their LVO approvals by now?

crwjerk 23rd Mar 2012 09:29

17 on their first flight!

iceman50 23rd Mar 2012 12:11

Devine Wind

Try and get the London airports correct, try LGW.

crwjerk 23rd Mar 2012 13:37

Sorry, my bad. My mate there must be talking crap.

PA28r200hp 25th Mar 2012 09:27

Average 20 pax and no LWMO on the horizon

PA28r200hp 25th Mar 2012 09:29

You forgot to mention they failed to land on the inaugural flight to TPE leaving furious pax 17 hours in the aircraft on a 1.5hour flight.
NO LWMO

PA28r200hp 25th Mar 2012 09:33

Having all the money in the world as backing is no substitute for professionalism in the cockpit, and there's a very good reason why HKG CAD wont give them ETOPS-LWMO-UPGRADES.???!!!

PA28r200hp 25th Mar 2012 09:37

With unstable rosters no one has a chance of commuting

PA28r200hp 26th Mar 2012 02:35

Not sure about the loads to TPE but its common knowledge that loads to LGW are low due to the poor press that HKA has be getting .The TPE was all over the local HKG press about how come all other carriers managed to land whilst HKA could not.Furthermore they keep annoying pax to the extent they refuse to get off unless compensated. This has happened more than once.It seems HKA has a lot of inexperience in management pilots that will need to be addressed before they are granted normal airline status by the regulating authorities .
Lets hope the HKG CAD do their job and sort them out so that professional pilots can aspire to normal operations and careers.
There is no other reason why HKA cannot make a killing on the LGW or TPE routes as they have traditionally been profitable to all other carriers :ugh:

For a bit of info on loss if licence. I have cover till age 55, which costs just under 26000HKD per year. Also the medical cover companies in HK provide requires the employee to top up, otherwise the cover is minimal. The top up I pay is 14000HKD per year. So as you can see, these two total 40K per year, so not an insignificant amount. If you come to HK with a family, then insurance with top up is a necessity. The company provided insurance plan with not cover very much and it can be very costly if you dont have sufficient cover.

As for any other insurance provided by a company, be aware that companies do not like parting with their money and it can take years to actually receive a payment. Some one has mentioned here a payout of 80,000usd, that wont cover much at all, perhaps write down what that money could buy versus what will be needed, you might be surprised at how much more you will need.

Kathey

Living in HK, and the cost has nothing to do with it as we come from different walks of life. Not everyone wakes up in the morning facing the life you live.
You pass on information first hand Yes...from your Negative point of view, because you are miserable, and Self Destructive.
Since you are so unhappy in HK, Why don't you go to the sandpit....I think you will be right at home there LOL

That's all I got to say about that......you can have the last word :D
