What else would you expect EK to advertise when trying to hire pilots

The post was for junior guys who might like to know what the current minimums for EK are. Seeing our current cadets will take years to get these minimums they may be interested in having a online application in the EK system you toolbox.

Why would you even be interested?

My apologies SMOC, probably a bit of too much sarcasm from my side.
Anyway, I can garantee you that every SO can memmorize every hiring requirement of any eligible airline, worldwide.
But of course no harm if you think otherwise.
Peace.

Guys,

please let us not look down on SO's, they deserve better.

First, most of us know the feeling sitting next to an A scaler and their bewilderement why one would accept inferior B scales..

Second, the decision to join CX, with all training paid, is just reflecting the current market. Plus do not forget the younger generation pilots might have family assets, plus double income now becoming the norm in marriages.

Third, this might just be a stepping stone or market forces might lead to improvements of the LEP package, we just don't know. You also don't know where the real estate market will be in a few years, could be ( a lot) lower.

Fourth, if you still pity them, do yourself a favour and have a look at a few of their rosters. I can garantee you that will do the trick.

Many of those who critisize the SO's seem to forget what they had to go through. I bet the income of an SO is higher than with the RAF..

Well don't look at Emirates for that. Maximum 5 rostered (if you're lucky), can swap to 7 and before you ask, you can't increase on that at the end/beginning of the month.

More rostering changes to come, along with a new housing 'estate'.

Be careful what you wish for.

AQIS

Not to be too picky (where've you heard that before!?), but I can't see how a non-QL JFO is eligible for EY.

You need an ATPL and 2500 hours for the 777. A 777 SO logging half of the block time minus 1, isn't going to be at 2500 until a while after QL.

Call it 3 years to upgrade (I know, it's just over) at 400 logged hours a year - you're half way there. Your upgrade is all logged time, so call it 200 more hours in the book for that then back to long haul and logging half again, with a few regionals thrown in.

If you started at CX without prior experience, you'll be a fair bit beyond QL by the time you've got 2500 hours, particularly on the the 777, with the way you log flights. Unless EY let you use time in the bunk towards it.

From another PPRUNE thread posted Today.

http://www.pprune.org/middle-east/53...decs-ek-4.html

Like Harry said, Emirates pay according to recruitment and retention.
Unfortunately, they don't pay according to PPRuNe.

The guys on here are not management. They are just trying to compare honest and accurate pay rates. It should be pretty simple and objective analysis.

Whether you actually like working for EK and living in Dubai, is a different thing. It is subjective. It is a pointless task, trying to argue who is right or wrong on this.

Back to the objective comparison.

New EK First Officer:
FOs start on (near as damn it), US$100K, without the housing allowance.
That's US$ 110 per hour for 900 hours work.
If tax in the US is 25%, then that's equivalent to US$146. Very similar to a year 3 Delta 777 FO. (I'm assuming BDD's figures are pre-tax and correct)

12 year EK Captain:
US$ 157,000. (no housing allowance)
That's US$175 per hour for 900 hours.
Before US tax is US$ 233.
Not as good as a Delta Captain.

It then gets a bit complicated...
How much the housing allowance is worth to each individual in Emirates is quite subjective.
Guys who own a house in Dubai tend to consider the Housing Allowance as part of their salary. I include myself in that. It pays my mortgage. Why would I not? No different to back home.

If you are in company accommodation and don't own any other property, the benefit might seem a little opaque. In reality it is still there. Free accommodation and bills is definitely a benefit. But how much an individual perceive that benefit, varies. A lot.

If the 12 year EK Captain includes his allowance, then the figures change quite a bit:
12 year EK Captain. US$ 230 per hour. This would need to be US$305 before a tax rate of 25% in the US.
This is above BDD's figures for a Delta Captain.

Alconguin Crusader apologises for trying to improve T&Cs. He says:
Quote:
Sorry for trying to raise the T&C here to better reflect International standards
Fair enough to him.

I think most guys are just trying to find some honesty.

Good info, SMOC.

FYI, a yr 1 Captain on HKPA at CX has the equivalent take-home pay of an American Pilot with a gross rate of $279 per hour, using 25% tax for the American, and 15% for the HKer. That's on 84 hours work.

This is excluding 13th month/bonuses/profit shares/retirement contributions etc.

I wonder how that compares to where the average 12 yr captain will be at the US majors. He won't be on a 777, that's for damn certain. Probably on a 757/767 at the very best (given the retirement bulge) at around $200 part hour at the legacies, or at SWA $150 per hour as an FO.

Then again, it's by no means certain that the CX pilot will be a captain at 12 years, either. If you're not a Captain at 12 years, you'll realistically be at around the SFO4 point, having done 3 years as an SO, and one at JFO. That brings the equivalent American pay to 217 per hour.

If you joined CX as an FO, and are stuck at the top of the SFO scale at 12 years, the equivalent American pay is $236 per hour. This is using HKPA income, which obviously doesn't apply to DEFOs.

Interestingly, At the very top of the CX HKPA Captain scale, that equivalent American figure becomes $405 per hour.

Apples and handgrenades!! What kind of place can you buy to put your family in in HKG currently that compares with ANYWHERE in the US? I have sold my places, and am currently renting 1600SF that has a price tag of 5M US. Not to mention the fact that US airlines actually HAVE a legitimate contract and work rules to stand behind. This place has become a farce, and if you really believe that your $273/hour brings you the same QOL that is experienced by a major US airline captain, you have indeed lost the plot.

ETOPS,

I was working on 4 years as an SO, plus 200hrs ADL or other basic training and any previous experience (for the ones who unfortunately joined the C-scale with some good flying hours).

But agreed..in regards to EY without QL not doable as a 200hr hero...but QR is def possible...

Effectively the decision will be made by the wives since it is impossible to raise a family on C-scale in HKG...that villa in DXB/AUH/DOH is a lot better than 1000 sqft gross in Tung Chung.

There is no villa for SO or FO in DOH and you have to be very very lucky to get an apartment.

Where did I mention the things you've insinuated?

Oh, I didn't. I merely added CX numbers to the above post, with a couple of valid discussion points.

I know it must seem like PhD maths for you, but try to absorb and assimilate the information put before you before spouting your trap off.

AQIS B, agreed.

How much money did you make from selling your places that, presumably, CX paid for? Will that buy you a nice place in the USA whenever you return? Are you really worried about QOL if you are still here?

Just interested to know.
