EK T@C's

G'day Crink, I have tried this forum in search of the same information in the past, only to be bluntly directed to airmech.com which has some very vague, and outdated information posted on it . If you search my previous posts you will find the employment conditions and pay as I understand it to be as of late last year. I have spent considerable time reading the numerous posts within the "middle east" forum and it paints a relatively clear picture of what life is like within the Emirates group... If tech crew are getting bent over on pay and conditions, you can rest assured that the Engineering boys have already well and truely copped it...
It would be absolutely fantastic for an engineer within the Emirates group to clarify the employment conditions for those of us wondering. However, I think you're barking up the wrong tree mate, as I have my doubts whether Emirates engineering guys access this site. Best of luck and I hope someone proves me wrong...
Cheers, Black Hands

EK Engg Wins award for demotivated staff

Hi Blackhands and crink,
most of us out here don't find the time to access this site as we are always trying to catch up with something.
As soon as you enter work you are trying to catch a car, then its the aircrafts which have closed their doors for towing just when you arrive at the parking gate and then its trying to dodge the traffic in the airport as well as outside the airport.
everything apart from working conditions is generally good i.e., if you can afford it.
the present salaries might look attractive but if you think you are gonna save heaps of money to take back with you think again.
the greenback is falling against other currencies so whatever you have in your company provident fund might be peanuts by the time you leave as its all in $$.
safety wise its still ok except that sometimes you will face unreasonable demands like NLG retraction on the ramp due to lack of hangar space and time and unreasonable targets are set for you to acheive due time and weather constraints.
the management doesn't want to listen to reasons causing the problems but want to know who caused the problem?
if you want to come here then the grade has to be E3 or else don't think about it.
and your off days earnt can and will be utilised by the company as and when required ( at the moment 1 per month) but can increase. you can claim it back when suited to your manager.
City is good for family life.
All in all EK is still better off than other outfits in the region(middle east) but going downhill due demotivated staff and ever increasing workload and of course the inflation.
cheers

Thanks for the information......guys. So someone on E3 grade would be what then in the grand scheme of things? An Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, or a Licenced Aircraft maintenance engineer? and how much do they take home in USDs?

Take home pay is just a percentage of a total package.

Tax if any, accom allow and what it gets, average ot, bonus's, leave allow, Provident fund scheme, kids education, airfrares, medical and dental, transport provided etc etc etc.

If you compare a single guy to married with 4 kids and the company are paying education/medica//dental etc then there is a huge difference as to what the package is worth, although take home might be the same. The single guy might pocket some accom allow and the married guy may have to subsidise as well. Alot of variations.

for anybody thinking of coming to Dubai regardless of your occupation think long and very hard.

You should also be very clear in your head why you want to come here.

To help you with your decision:

Dubai is a wonderful place to be. It is a mixture of many things, no issues with the locals as long as you accept that you are in THEIR country. The list goes on and on. Generally speaking though, you will either love it or hate it, no middle ground.

However, if your main motivation is the misfounded belief that you are going to make your fortune.....stay where you are as you will be disappointed.

EK T@C's

G'day fella's, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have a few questions that I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on for me..
If any of you wish to pm me you are more than welcome, however answering on this open forum could be extremely beneficial for many of the curious, chasing slightly less brown pastures...
* Flyingspanner, you recommend avoiding positions of a grade less than E3. Would a LAE of approximately 15 years experience and only 2 company types holding full B1 only, be eligible to apply for a position of E3??
* What type of rosters are worked? On the ramp? In the hangar? Overtime??
* What would my take home monthly pay be as an E3? What allowances could I expect to receive? Type payments?etc..
* What is the standard of the company provided accommodation for an unmarried bloke with no kids? Furnished? Unfurnished? Am I going to be shuffled from apartment to apartment??
* What would my supervisory requirements be, in regards to the average number of mechanics I would be certifying for?? In the hangar? On the ramp? How do you blokes find their skill/language level? Do you have access to a "technical services" or "maintenance watch" type department of which can assist in defect rectification/deferral and troubleshooting??
* Is the availability of spares/tooling an issue?
* Flyingspanner you touched on the point of morale,or lack of it... Believe me mate, where I'm working at the moment I hear you.. If you could care to elaborate further... Is is a lack of career progression issue? No training?? Or the usual unrealistic timeframes vs skill base and managerial fiasco that one can expect to encounter at all operations??
* Last, but not least... I have read numerous posts within the "middle east" forum in relating to the the laws within the UAE, and this point of discussion seems to be a bit of a grey area.. but as an unmarried bloke, is it realistic to assume that I could be arrested when the girlfriend comes to visit whilst I'm living in Dubai?? I understand that this law is enforced "enthaustically" in the surrounding region, but within Dubai is it strongly policed?? How then do hotels cater for unmarried tourists??

I am well aware that this post is very longwinded to say the least, but any attempts from the EK boys answer these questions would be greatly appreciated. Cold ones all round...

Cheers..

Question

Hi Ned, I have a cousin who wants to work for EK. He's applied for the position of, Aircraft Maintenance Technician. I work for EK and wanted to do some research on his behalf.

I know about lifestile and have informed him. What I need to know is:

1. How much money will he earn?
2. What sort of accomodation package would he get in his grade?
3. How hard would he work?
4. Chances of promotion and in-house training?

Thanks again.
