Post Impulse/QF LInk 717s

If previous threads are correct then why:

1. haven't Qantas announced the purchase of 6 717s for Impulse?
2. haven't boeing listed the sale of the 717s on their site?

I would have thought aircraft orders (particularly now) is a positive thing worth reporting...

Or is it just an unfounded rumour?

The six being looked at (so I hear) are apparently coming from a U.S. carrier.

There is a strong rumour the Hawaiian B717's are available in the 2nd quarter of 2002.

prop lever,
quite a well thought out response.
wondering where you got your info from. everything I have heard from within the company seems to point to at least another 6. have not heard about the next 10!!

Unhappy

If I added up all the B717 Impulse/Qantas have supposedly ordered, there will be 50 or 60 on their way. Talk within the company means $h!t until orders are actually placed. I have no doubt Impulse will be getting more B717, but just wait until the things have been ordered, if they are going to be.

It wasn't so long ago that all the talk was Impulse getting B737NG. Then they were going to crew the QF B738 and don't forget about Australian Airlines Crewing!!!!!!!!!!!!There were people then saying how definite it was and look what all of that has amounted to.

Talk is talk and so far Impulse hasn't changed one little bit since it was taken over by QF in May. Time will tell if any of the above comes to fruition.

Though I would love to see the 717s here in Australia, I fail to see where they would go... Sure if QF weren't bringing in truckloads of new 738s there may be some place in the market, but as (from other comments) the 717s don't have the same field performance as the 146s, this would exclude them from many regional WA routes for example. Hence they would have to hit more major routes.

I have heard from my impulse-employee cousin that CBR is set to be a base replacing Southern 146s. This is no surprise but would be a 2 plane op, 3 at max. The other rumour from him is a high freq. ADL-MEL, but I find this quite difficult to believe, considering the need for a business class product on this route... but perhaps I am wrong on this???

Interesting point ADL,

With QF introducing their popular City Flyer, "high frequency service", on the MEL, SYD, BNE sectors, why not do the same for ADL, obviously using smaller capacity aircraft, B717??

The ADL man,

The reason Boeing haven't listed these 6 aircraft is because they are not a new order. Impulse (pre-QF) had options on another 11 aircraft. Impulse/Qantas have a choice on where they can get these 6 aircraft from. Pembroke (big leasing company) already supplies a few B717's to Impulse and they have a total of 21 on order, so Impulse if they like may lease another 6 from them. Another option is take 6 aircraft from the TWA/AA order. TWA ordered 50, but since AA purchased TWA it appears they will only take 20-30 aircraft. Qantas B738 were planned for AA so this maybe where the 6 B717's will come from. The next 6 aircraft will be in a 2 class seating config, ie will have business class, so you can start guessing what routes they will operate. I have also heard where the new base(s) will be, the choice(s) may surprise a few. There are no plans to operate the B717 in the west.
Once the xmas/new year season is over there will be an announcement. From what I've been told B1900 pilots have already be asked to bid for slots on the new aircraft, with the first batch heading over to the USA in late Jan 2002.

Sorry guys. There is no "gerry"mander now. Now that Impulse is a part of QF link, you must realise that business is not done by rumour network. Wish as much as you want, but stop spouting cr@p.

Yup. Everyone who gets on this forum and tells the world that Impulse will take over as the biggest and best airline in oz, is full of it. Even those who would suggest that they will get just one more 717, or even a C-152 are full of it.

Enough?

Not really prop. Is this your own insight or do you have some inside information? You seem to be a little emotional and angry.

Why wouldn't Impulse get a few more 717's when they provide an excellent cheaper service which ultimately means higher profits. In order to make them even more efficient it is suggested they will need at least 15.

And remember Qantas owns Impulse or Impulse are Qantas. Regardles of whether Mainline or Impulse generates the profit. The money flows back to the Qantas shareholders and the underline of Qantas. You might want to also remember why shareholders put bucks, BUCKS in Qantas. This may be the reason BA are considering pulling their stake out of Qantas.

Unfortunately companies are not run to appease employees.

Think about it

Cheers

Not much to do with all that nippler! In fact, I have to agree. It has more to do with the fantasizing that happens here on PPrune. And the unfounded cr@p that tends waft in here! Impulse drivers and banner wavers spout all sorts of unsubstantiated info here, and whilst it is a rumour network, and I expect that some mis-information will take place, the constant dribblings from the impulse guys is over the top.

Cheers mate, and happy new year.

Proplever,

most of the rumours generated by the impulse guys are only posted in order to get a response like yours. Wouldnt it be best to just ignore them, perhaps they will realise that thier rumours are worth nothing..........cheers and Happy New Year

Perhaps the Impulse guys and gals could post the question on Qrewroom.

At least you KNOW that QF management read Qrewroom and would probably get back to you.

QF often don't know what they are doing in six months (you only have to see how quick the Impulse deal came on to see that) so how they'd know they were getting extra 717s up until four weeks before (unless they publically announce it) I don't know!

Keg

Do you think the QF purchase of Impulse was a sudden thing?

I wonder if it wasn't planned from the beginning of QF/Impulse talks.

Enter a commercial arrangement first. That way the ACCC can't do too much.

Let the fuss and bother die down and about 6 months later, buy the lot, to nary a whimper.

Seems like a sound commercial strategy to me.

Talking

Welcome back from beyond, Clarrie

One might go one step further to suggest the whole thing was bankrolled by QF right from the outset...........................................

Makes good sense............

But no-one could ever prove it.

Flight international magazine this month report that new 717s will be sent to NZ to take over the the Qantas domestic op over there, which I believe is currently entirely served by short-term leased 737s.
