time in home base

could any current V crew give me an idea how long (max amount) of time/days you have back at home base.
Trying to get an idea of how long I would have to jump a domestic to MEL every few weeks.

thanks

Rmondo current pattern is 5 day LAX trip landing around 0710 on the 5th day. Followed by 3 full days off then out about 2000 following day. Commuting is doable at the moment but once SYD-MEL-SYD sectors start it will become a lot more difficult as this will be a day trip. I'm not looking forward to those!!

Hey im transferring VB to V. Is this SYD-MEL-SYD trip a definent thing? Whats its purpose , Id assume its instead of a direct mel flight? Has anyone heard about any other routes? Any info on perth trips? Is possible to get 4 LA trips a roster at the moment Im hoping for that so I can earn at least around VB wages?

somewhereat1l 11th May 2009 07:09

I would stay at VB for now

DJCCGuy 12th May 2009 04:46

I would stay at VB for now
Why stay at VB for now?

jan brady 12th May 2009 10:52

Absolutely....why stay at VB ??? If you want to get out of Australia and have a look around then go for it....you will never look back. I flew domestically for 10 years and transferred to Etihad....best thing i did!!!You will love it and i actually find the flying easier. The only reason you might stay where you are is in case they scrap the whole idea, but i dont think they will.
Enjoy life!!

How many trips per month are VA CC doing ?

DJCCGuy 19th May 2009 03:16

Anywhere between 2 - 4. Some rosters have been built with 4, but that is the absolute maximum possible. Mostly it's 2.

I Just Want To Fly 31st May 2009 12:39

Maximum in a 28 day roster cycle is 3.5

If you operate a BNE flight then this number will be reduced as this pattern is a minumum of 6 days.

Rumour is that the direct MEL is being reconsidered, and a/c 4 will be redeployed to JNB. I believe these will initially be via PER due to ETOPS.

It is more expensive to keep the a/c on the ground in SYD than to do a SYD-MEL-SYD. The service will be very quick ad simple. Tickets will be sold in Y and W, but not in business. It is unlikely that many people will specifically purchase this flight, as they will have to check in at international 90 minutes prior.

VBPCGUY 31st May 2009 14:19

I will spew if MEL-LAX is being reconsidered, sure SYD-JNB is a route worth getting on and timely with the Soccer World Cup being held there and Australia playing, if they need to start SYD-JNB dont delay the fifth aircraft. The amount of V connectors we are doing to SYD through MEL is at least 100 per V flight, I did MEL-SYD flight the other day and loaded 60 connecting bags to LAX.

Keen to hear current crew's thoughts on the the possibility of 1 night layovers...

Although LBC is getting a bit tiresome, I am finding myself already fairly fatigued on the current pattern, and would not want to reduce the layover.

I have not done the current paxing 1 night pattern...

AirborneSoon 11th Jun 2009 11:29

I rather thought the long layover would have a short life, I didn't expect them to be talking about 1 day layovers yet. That sounds rather disappointing. Is it confirmed? So in otherwords you would get zero time downline because you are sleeping before your shift. :(

r3please 12th Jun 2009 01:27

Back to back LAX trips with only 1 night in LA would be exhausting.

Crew are already contacting CASA in relation to these planned patterns as fatigued crew is a safety concern.

inandout 12th Jun 2009 03:05

Don't QF do it now on their SYD- LAX

r3please 12th Jun 2009 03:23

they do on some trips but their EBA doesn't allow for back to back 1 night layovers without at least 46hrs in every 3rd layover.

When V introduce 1 night layovers in LA they could roster 5 of these trips per roster:ouch:

AirborneSoon 12th Jun 2009 12:04

:yuk::yuk::yuk:

I'd rather do...I don't know....anything else.

I Just Want To Fly 22nd Aug 2009 07:44

Rumours abound that we will not be getting layovers in HKT, but will actually pax straight back or VV!

somewhereat1l 22nd Aug 2009 13:55

HKT returns! Poor ops guys trying to cover the sickies on
those will have their work cut out. Maybe the managers will
realize 20hr+ planned duties aren't humane.
