V Australia Cabin Crew

Hi All - thought I would start this nerw thread seeing some of us are now crew not wannabees.

Lets start posting under this section for any information related to us and let the other (wannabees) be for those who are going through the process and getting excited. Thought it wasnt that fair for 'wannabees' to have to read all the inside negative stuff thats going around at the moment. Hmm, speaking of negative stuff - I'm looking forward to all the positives.

Go V!

skychild 14th Oct 2008 04:26

Has anyone got photos of V's Uniform? Cabin Crew, Team Leader and Flight Managers also?

air doris 14th Oct 2008 04:42

Hi guys,

Welcome, firstly I'm not V and am sorry for the initial set back you have, we all know this is beyond anyone's control and we all will have to sit back and ride this Boeing strike out as many of us are desperately awaiting delivery of new aircraft. I's out of our hands and I have friends with V but have heard you guys will still be paid through the delay, thats some good news.
Also heard training is well under way, many of you are ex other airlines so I'm sure you are adapting ok, and to those just starting your career I'm sure your peers will be there for you if there is anything you need. I's vital in this industry.

Great to see another carrier on these routes and all I can say now is "Let The Games Begin"!! And I mean that in a good way, the pax are going to love the fares, we just have to get that Aussie Dollar back up.

Congratulations guys.

jetcrewnw 14th Oct 2008 17:55

would anyone be able to tell me what the conditions of staff travel benefits are.... and who V gets travel discount with

jetcrewnw 14th Oct 2008 18:00

would anyone be able to tell me what the conditions of staff travel benefits are.... and who V gets travel discount with.
Is it the same as qantas.....and do they offer business class staff travel at all.
congratulations to all you new v staff
Its gonna be a great airline the crew sound wonderful and I am a wannabbe who wants this info to compare

mattandy 15th Oct 2008 02:22

Jetcrewnw - I dont believe the conditions for staff travel have been finalised. All new crew must satisfy the 3 months probation period before concessional flights are given.

Air-doris - thank you for such a lovely post! It is a very exciting time for everyone. Fingers crossed the strike ends sooner rather than later.:)

apaddyinuk 15th Oct 2008 15:42

Glad to hear you will still be paid. However I hope it is from the Coffers of Mr Boeing and NOT V!

Little_Red_Hat 16th Oct 2008 03:47

Paddy, Boeing do not have to pay up as there is a clause in their contracts which excludes liability for industrial action. So, no, they won't be paying.

inandout 16th Oct 2008 04:40

No Boeing will pay up as they have for Qantas, and that is a fact. However the damage is still down and this  strike has no end in sight.

Little_Red_Hat 16th Oct 2008 05:13

The issue with the 787 was a manufacturing delay, before it was an industrial action issue. I'm pretty sure there was no cash changing hands, only a good deal on other aircraft in the meantime while QF are waiting on the 78. The clause specifically says they do not have to pay compensation, whether they offer V something else is another thing entirely.

Perhaps a good deal on their remaining aircraft, which in turn will enable the Virgin group to use the money saved to pay wages??

As much as I'd like to see V get off the ground, I'm not so sure about it at this point. Really hope it works out for everyone who's already signed up.

staff travel

i hear that becuase of the delay, the 3 month period we need to wait for has been waivered and we can use it as of first day at GS!

(fact not fiction)

less than 24 hours to go till GS starts.

yee haaaaaa

inandout 19th Oct 2008 01:57

hell don't get too excited anything could happen.
1. Company gets taken over and scraps VA.:*
2. Strike goes on longer and Vb scraps VA:(
3. If this Yes vote gets up the pilots may strike:\
4. The world economy keeps getting worse and VA just does not start.:uhoh:
So lots of unknows at the moment and the pilots are really worried.:{
I pray it will start and be agreat success.:D

dy1ng_to_fly 19th Oct 2008 05:57

VOz CC Wannabe

Congrats to all those who've made it through, and welldone for hanging in there so far.

I'm a VOz CC wannabe from another airline hoping to join up with you once we've launched.

I tried applying online only to find out that applications closed Aug 2008.

Does anyone know if V Oz are still recruiting even though the delays has set back the launch date?

Thanks for the info!

Decisions_decisions 21st Oct 2008 18:11

Hey Guys,

Probably a stupid question -was wondering if anyone could tell me if the first year wage ($37500) and (potential) allowances cited (8-12K) were gross or net figure?

Rmondo 22nd Oct 2008 07:27

crew base

hi guys,
although I'm still a 'wannabe', I have made it past my ref check stage and am now waiting to hear whats next.
my question is: has anybody heard from 'within' if V may be starting up a MEL crew base in the near future...?
would sure make it easier for us Victorians with families.

mattandy 22nd Oct 2008 07:45

MEL base - not for a long while apparently.

ishkaban 22nd Oct 2008 08:28

MEL base is probably 2 yrs away if at all, even a BNE base isn't confirmed.

uz32 22nd Oct 2008 09:56

Decisions, decisions

The figures you quoted are gross, really gross.

kotoyebe 22nd Oct 2008 22:32

I'd say your decision is made if you have to ask this question...

jetcrewnw 29th Oct 2008 08:55

hi thought I would ask how its all going are you having fun with the learning and what happened with the v voting they were doing I have been following the leads but not many now:ugh:
we are emailed fortnightly and told we are all good and hey we are happy waiting for the call to the next stage
:O

I Just Want To Fly 1st Nov 2008 09:46

jetcrewnw, The vote was No as you are probably aware. I think the FAAA is getting involved now, and I think is meeting with the company soon.

inandout 2nd Nov 2008 08:10

Boeing strike is OVER :D

r3please 2nd Nov 2008 08:53

The vote was 90% no.

The majority of crew have signed for the FAAA to represent them for a collective bargaining agreement.

High Class Queen 2nd Nov 2008 09:06

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if there are any V Australia crew out there that used to fly with Qantas? If so are you glad you made the move? Or would you rather be back at Qantas? I am aware of some Qantas crew waiting to hear if they've got the job or not. What is the pay like compared to Qantas (Here I am referring to MAM & QCCA)?

jetcrewnw 11th Nov 2008 09:05

its 2 weeks how are all yu people in the waiting going

inandout 16th Nov 2008 10:00

Yes some people do work or help out in many areas, so what, they are happy to do so if it helps the company which in turn helps them. Just maybe these VA people have a good attitude towards their job and do not live in dream world like those in QF that have been there for years and had it to good. Christ many people who work in the city get in at 7 and leave at 6 every day. The VA CC I have met doing my training at Lord St are really full of enthusiasm and energy, the trainers are fantastic. When these guys hit the airways customers will be in for a pleasant surprise. For those who think helping out is a horror story, you go lie down with a bex while we get on with the job.

somewhereat1l 19th Nov 2008 04:57

V Australia Safety Net Agreement update

The majority of crew have requested the FAAA negotiate a collective bargain agreement.

Current issues being raised:

The next agreement not to be for 4 years as this locks us in to a contract until past January 2010 (when the industrial laws change in the employees favour)

CPI increases

Confirmation of allowances and how they will be paid/exchange rate calculations

Commission on saleable items

Hotel standby - hours on standby to be counted toward rostered hours. Clarification if allowances will be reduced

Cap on hours (Qantas long haul 93.5 hours per 28 days)

24/7 contacbility needs clarifying in writing

Payments for working as cabin leader or flight manager

Day trips - i.e. LAX-JFK-LAX / SYD-MEL-SYD . DTA payments sought for day trips

Guaranteed 4/5 star accommodation
If you are V crew please post what you would like to be addressed in negotiations or contact the FAAA

FAAA Domestic - Flight Attendants Association of Australia Domestic Regional Division

jetcrewnw 21st Nov 2008 07:51

you guy dont write much anymore what has been happening...
how is it all going i understand that new recruitment will begin again next year.
i am in the process but can anyone tell me how this compares with qf
staff travel and wages.....

I Just Want To Fly 20th Dec 2008 01:58

Allowances have been confirmed!

US$250 for a 2 Night and US$365 for a 3 night!

Plus AU$75 for BNE

Grove 20th Dec 2008 03:35

Same as QF.. $125US per day in LAX..

dizzylizzy 2nd Jan 2009 12:34

So with that $125AUD allowance, is that paid in cash at the hotel, given to you in food vouchers or into your bank account?

Rmondo 3rd Jan 2009 06:54

I believe its US$125. (per night) paid into your Australian bank acc. (tax free)
This is better for us of course if the Australian dollar/peso stays down where it is. US$125. would convert to about AUS$180. or more depending what the exchange rate is at the time.

Door_One_Right 5th Jan 2009 01:16

I normally spend $20 on a buffet breakfast and really go to town with it. It can take a good 2 hours to eat breakfast but that way I don't need much of a lunch (just a power bar and a piece of fruit). Subway for dinner, unless I'm meeting up with crew. $30 for one day, easy.

Rmondo 6th Jan 2009 20:47

As DOOR ONE RIGHT said, you can get by on as little or as much as you want.
I have been to California and Hawaii for weeks at a time each year for the past 5 years and believe me - you can spend well over your budget, or get by on $30. a day - depends how little or how much you want in your pocket at the end of the week. Food (and most things) are that much cheaper over there and who wants to spend your lay over (and money) sitting down to 3 course meals every few hours.

From what I understand, the US$125. per night allowance is paid into your bank acc at the end of that 2 week pay period, so you will need to pull money out of your acc to have cash while in the US.

flitegirl 7th Jan 2009 08:38

and let's face it, you'll be so exhausted when you get there, you will probably spend a large part of your 24 hours sleeping and save a considerable amount of you US$125

Teggeh 8th Jan 2009 03:36

stinkypinky

You'll find most businesses don't make money until many years after being formed. V Australia will most likely last quite some time, as the company would have been prepared for it to be a money loser before it is a money maker.

Plus, I imagine they are looking to break in to the Australian international market and eventually open more routes. So it is worth it to put more pressure on to Qantas and in turn on to Jetstar, their main, and basically only competition in the Pacific.
