Probably a stupid question -was wondering if anyone could tell me if the first year wage ($37500) and (potential) allowances cited (8-12K) were gross or net figure? |

jetcrewnw, The vote was No as you are probably aware. I think the FAAA is getting involved now, and I think is meeting with the company soon.

Just wondering if there are any V Australia crew out there that used to fly with Qantas? If so are you glad you made the move? Or would you rather be back at Qantas? I am aware of some Qantas crew waiting to hear if they've got the job or not. What is the pay like compared to Qantas (Here I am referring to MAM & QCCA)? |

Yes some people do work or help out in many areas, so what, they are happy to do so if it helps the company which in turn helps them. Just maybe these VA people have a good attitude towards their job and do not live in dream world like those in QF that have been there for years and had it to good. Christ many people who work in the city get in at 7 and leave at 6 every day. The VA CC I have met doing my training at Lord St are really full of enthusiasm and energy, the trainers are fantastic. When these guys hit the airways customers will be in for a pleasant surprise.For those who think helping out is a horror story, you go lie down with a bex while we get on with the job.

V Australia Safety Net Agreement update
The majority of crew have requested the FAAA negotiate a collective bargain agreement.
Current issues being raised: The next agreement not to be for 4 years as this locks us in to a contract until past January 2010 (when the industrial laws change in the employees favour) CPI increases Confirmation of allowances and how they will be paid/exchange rate calculations Commission on saleable items Hotel standby - hours on standby to be counted toward rostered hours. Clarification if allowances will be reduced Cap on hours (Qantas long haul 93.5 hours per 28 days) 24/7 contacbility needs clarifying in writing Payments for working as cabin leader or flight manager Day trips - i.e. LAX-JFK-LAX / SYD-MEL-SYD . DTA payments sought for day trips Guaranteed 4/5 star accommodation If you are V crew please post what you would like to be addressed in negotiations or contact the FAAA FAAA Domestic - Flight Attendants Association of Australia Domestic Regional Division |

So with that $125AUD allowance, is that paid in cash at the hotel, given to you in food vouchers or into your bank account?

I believe its US$125. (per night) paid into your Australian bank acc. (tax free)
This is better for us of course if the Australian dollar/peso stays down where it is. US$125. would convert to about AUS$180. or more depending what the exchange rate is at the time. |
I normally spend $20 on a buffet breakfast and really go to town with it. It can take a good 2 hours to eat breakfast but that way I don't need much of a lunch (just a power bar and a piece of fruit). Subway for dinner, unless I'm meeting up with crew. $30 for one day, easy.

As DOOR ONE RIGHT said, you can get by on as little or as much as you want.
I have been to California and Hawaii for weeks at a time each year for the past 5 years and believe me - you can spend well over your budget, or get by on $30. a day - depends how little or how much you want in your pocket at the end of the week. Food (and most things) are that much cheaper over there and who wants to spend your lay over (and money) sitting down to 3 course meals every few hours. From what I understand, the US$125. per night allowance is paid into your bank acc at the end of that 2 week pay period, so you will need to pull money out of your acc to have cash while in the US. |
and let's face it, you'll be so exhausted when you get there, you will probably spend a large part of your 24 hours sleeping and save a considerable amount of you US$125

You'll find most businesses don't make money until many years after being formed. V Australia will most likely last quite some time, as the company would have been prepared for it to be a money loser before it is a money maker. Plus, I imagine they are looking to break in to the Australian international market and eventually open more routes. So it is worth it to put more pressure on to Qantas and in turn on to Jetstar, their main, and basically only competition in the Pacific. |
