"If you make it through some of the elimination rounds but not as far as the final interview, you can re-apply after 6 months. Don't worry though...you do not get blacklisted if you don't get through. EK like people who make the effort to re-apply as it means you are really interested in the job. There may be any number of reasons why you were not selected, so try try again. I went through 2 open days and 2 final interviews before i got the job, but I made it eventually. Some people are luckier than other so keep your chin up"

So hope that helps...

By the way...i made it through to the final interview stages too, however was just unfortunate enough not to be able to get the job..however, i will be trying again.

hello, frenchmanicure, thank you for your reply, yes... you can reapply after six or 12 months and they are happy to see that you really want the job....but, that does not really answer my question. Which was...do you get black listed if you reapply without waiting for 6 or 12 months?

hi yall i have been to Dubai last month and went to the headquarters and left there my pictures and my resume and a few days ago i got a phone call from them telling me to go to an open day in one of the countries neighbour to my country where they are recruiting at the moment.So im going to Amsterdam next week since they never come to my country :( .now my question is has any of u been in the same situation/? been invited to an open day?

Emirates training - is it hard? Can I study before I head over to Dubai?
 

Hi everyone, pending my medical results I will be heading to Dubai on Dec 1 to start working for EK as cabin crew.

I am quite nervous about the training as I know it's a very intensive 5 weeks of study and exams. Could ANYONE please tell me what to expect, if there is anything I could do before hand to prepare and how common is it for people to fail??

See the middle east forum for loads and loads on what to expect. But broadly, you can look forward to:

-having your @rse groped by "people" from certain ethnic groups whenever you go out in a crowd, eg pub.

-being mistaken for a Russian ho if you end up living in Al Manazel (Bur Dubai) whenever you venture out on the streets.

-penalty points from crewing if you happen to be sick on a public holiday

-being telephoned at home after you call in sick to make sure you really are at home. Marked absent if you happen to be down at the clinic or chemist getting some flu pills or aspirins

-going to jail for having the wrong sort of aspirins in your bag

-Hitler-esque pursers and seniors who will enjoy writing reports on you

-24hr layovers with timings that really require you to have two nights sleep but do not allow it physiologically.

-just enough allowances to buy some noodles to boil in your room

-Certain ethnic groups who will try endlessly to "tune" you while in-flight and just as likely write you up for some "crime" if/when you knock them back

-Being called into the office on a day off to explain why you were reported (with the asistance of the purser) for "disrepecting" some local idiot who was being an absolute tw@t on the flight (oh, you have NO idea.....)

-Bag searches by the locals when you come back from trips away at 6am after a long long sector

-Lots of scratching and biting over petty tiffs between the 100+ different nationalities on the crews.

-no crew rest in-flight usually, because EK dutytime-limits are almost endless

-Smelly taxi drivers who will try to kill you on the roads

-Local imbeciles with no clue how to drive (other than fast) who will try to kill you on the roads

-A general lack of respect for you because you are a female (I presume)

-Heat. Extreme humidity. Both at the same time for about 6 months of the year which will leave you stuck indoors, literally.

-Sign-on at about midnight for half of the trips you do with sign-off at the end at around 0500-0800 depending on which one.

You can expect to...

-regularly feel like a crash-site due to working all night almost every time you go to work and not being allowed to close your eyes in-flight even when on your break (reports again...)

-try to develop a habit of being able to sleep at about 8pm so you can make it through the night flight ahead. eg Perth which is about 11-12 hrs, no extra crew. You are expected to be awake the entire flight which leaves about 3am or so. (pick-up just after midnight)

-try to sleep in the early evening before a night horror turn-around to some dodgy ****-pit of the world, despite having just got back from a horror which means you are enjoying the latest offering from Crewing... the "Combined Rest Day"!!! "Two-forOne!!" Get rested after one trip and before the next at the same time!

And to top it all off... you just missed out on Ramadan!!!



The good news (for you):

4 days layover in Brisbane, split by a shuttle to Auckland. This change was forced recently after 2 years or so of dodgy "waivers" which allowed a min rest 8 day trip.

There is SO much they forget to mention in the glossy brochures.

Perhaps I should have been clearer in my question - I was wondering about the training, not so much what I should expect generally from EK.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, you can expect to:

-not be promoted if you use 2 or 3 sick days. Your "contract" says you are entitled to something like 15 sick days a year but the reality is you will be punished for using them. You will have plenty of time to enjoy economy.

-be punished with 2-3 months (depending on whom you ask) of turn-around trips to not-so-wonderful destinations if you call sick on a special day such as NYE, Christmas, Eid. Doesn't even matter what religion you happen to be so start popping your multi-vitamins now because you can't afford to get sick here.

-have your non-crew friends thrown out of your apartment about 1am or so by security who are concerned you might be operating a "knock-shop" up in your home. You are NOT an adult.

-try out the local public beaches at least once, until the day you notice a labourer behind a bush, "enjoying" watching you.

-wake up after a horror trip, sometime late in the day, to find a dark-looking chap rummaging around your place, maybe poking his head into your bedroom, because he wants to "fix" something. He will have permission (but not yours) to do so and the keys to all the doors.

-be off-loaded by a nazi purser for having the wrong shade of lipstick on ya mug, especially after The Letter sent out to all crew, which urged pursers to kick off anyone who was less than immaculate, whilst accusing the rest of the crew of enjoying themselves at work or in the galley. Ask about The Letter when you arrive. It even made the newspapers here.


You asked about training? They will spend a large amount of the few weeks of training you will get, on important matters like lipstick shades, haircuts (for the guys) and shoe polishing.

The class on Duty-time Limits will last about 30 seconds because that's how long it takes to tell you, "There are none."


Sadly, statistics say you can also expect to test the MMD rule. Some say they don't "do" MMD but I think a lot just don't like to admit that they did, especially as it invariably ends in tears and "I told you so" from everyone else. Still, you can't tell these youngsters, can you? Especially when there's (the promise of) shiny, expensive things.....

And you can expect to soon be about the only aussie left here because all the other westerners are getting sick of the way things are done here and the pay is not enough to make it worthwhile, alas.

Amazed they are still able to con aussies into leaving home.

I get the feeling this is all wasted on you but it feels better having spilt my guts, anyway.

The upside is, when you've been here and seen what the planet is really like outside of home, there will be one less Australian who thinks the gov't should let in all and sundry from all the armpits of the world.

only a week and a bit till the sydney open day. hopefully it hasnt got a lot of advertising so it will be quiet :p

if anyone can remember the behavioural type questions they got asked in the final interview, i'd love to hear them! i need to get some decent answers thought up as last time i got through they were lacking....at best.

i'll also find out if matters that my previous attempt was only maybe 10months earlier. and i got to the 2 on 1 in that.

Not sure about behaviourla questions but when they ask if there're any questions you might have for them, be sure to ask how many sick days you are entitled to.

Then ask how many you are allowed to take without pathetic and unfair punishments being administered on the assumption that you are not really sick...

This will be my fourth time! But I actually got an email invitation for this one, which surprises me considering I'm a guy. See you all there.

I'm waiting for Emirates website to update on open day information for Jan/Feb!

Couple days ago, I even had a dream about open day being held in Toronto but not in Vancouver and I was just devastated
