Hi guys!

Please pm me as i'm desperate!

stu

Kempus 13th Oct 2003 10:31

Hey folks!

Seem to be giving out a lot of advice regarding the BA interview but no one is willing to give me any advice on any accomadation or even a paper i can get for this area.

I'm desparate!

stu :uhoh:

craic1510 13th Oct 2003 20:46

Hey Stu - dont stress! Did you get my PM?

Try looking at these sites and start contacting people. I can only offer so much advice as I am in Australia.

www.heathrowletting.co.uk
www.onebigworld.co.uk
www.findaproperty.co.uk

you need to start researching and ringing around. Thats the only way you will find somewhere.

have fun!

craic1510

p.s. If I was based at heathrow I would let you stay with me but i aint. sorry :( Thanks for all the advice though.

Missy b, the room i have is up till the 12th but curious why you starting on a tuesday? PM me!

Stu

missy b,

sorry, meant a thursday!

stu

missyb 6th Nov 2003 15:16

stu,

Hi there, not sure why training starting on a Thursday, however there are now three of us who I know of starting the same day.

The only thing I can think is that it will be the run up to the xmas period and maybe training finishes on xmas eve, that would be 3 weeks. Then possibly resume after. I am going to give them a ring today.

Where will you be commuting from as I was thinking of taking my car also.

How much would I expect to pay for accom for the training as on a very tight budget

First RELAX.

:O

We aren`t that bad at BA....

SBY`s are done at LHR so no call out time. So living 1hr 30 way from airport isn`t a problem.

Eurofleet crews live as far away as Northants, Bucks, Herts, Beds some Birmingham, Leicester, Brighton.

The six week training course can be hard work if your commuting that distance but once flying not too much of a problem.

If your worried about the £`s living on old JetLink coach network-now re-branded National Express there is a discount card available to BAA/Airline employees which costs £30 per mth or £60 per mth which allowes unlimited useage of the airport coach network.

Depends whether you want to live at the airport or not really. But can be cheaper away and nicer places to live.

Hope this helps

BA What Fleet?

Hi. Good luck to all applying. You're right about certs. No flexibility there. You MUST have them. I am interested to know what fleet everyone is getting. Know a few people who have been put on long LGW. Have heard that all courses till end of Dec will be LGW. Anyone esle know anything different? Still keep consistently hearing that WWF LHR is quite likely as well. However, at the end of the day, you get what you're given which is fine. Know plenty of crew at Euro who are more than happy there. Many of which don't even want WWF!

missyb 9th Nov 2003 00:30

hi there,

Just been offered LGW LH course, December, subject to change. I hope that the change is very unlikely as I will be commuting from the regions.

Do you work for BA in Gla? As some guys from NCL will be starting around same date, will speak to them re accomodation and see how they got fixed up.

M

Anti-ice 9th Nov 2003 23:37

Guess your strange starting dates are down to the fact that Cranebank is open 7 days a week ( we often start SEP at 7-30 on a sunday (eek) - great because there is no traffic!

Good luck!

Balboy 15th Nov 2003 17:42

Hi everyone.

Congrats to all those who were sucessfull in getting the BA job...well done.

This is a bit embarrasing considering how many people are starting their courses but.........I still havent heard a thing since I applied at the beginning of October.

I have rang them twice now to enquire and I have been told they are really snowed under and havent looked at it yet. Its a really horible feeling just waiting .

Anybody else here not heared anything either...

Regards.

krisflyer 15th Nov 2003 18:14

Hi there everyone,

Ive been offered a job startin on 15th Dec with BA but they wont tell me what my fleet is. Wld anyone on this forum know whether its LGW LH or the eurofleet.
Thanks:O

Flying_Sarah747 15th Nov 2003 21:38

They did the same thing to me Krisflyer! Haven't told me whether it's LHR Eurofleet, or LGW long haul.

Were most people told by phone or by mail? Cause they called me, I think due to the mail strike that happened after my interview, but other people seem to have been told by mail, and they know which base they're gonna be at!

Kempus 17th Nov 2003 02:50

ba

Hi guys!!

Well thats week one over with on my long haul course and what can i say, maybe that the whole recruitment thing was rushed and things arent going smoothly at all!

We've no itinerary so not sure what to expect next. I do know however that visa's are a bit of a nightmare and so is the disclosure scotland form!!

Oh yeah, on thurs the lady in charge of cc got authorisation for even more cc, all to start before the end of december so its all go at cranebank!

Having an aircraft visit 2m, looking forward to it, i've never been on a 747 or 777 before!

All in all not much to say at the mo as it is like every other course in the first week, mainly concentrating on customer service skills!

When avmed and sep start on wed i'll let you all know more!

speak soon,

kempus :ok:

ps. got a whole list of jabs today and me arm is killing me! :(

STARBUX 19th Nov 2003 00:32

missyb 19th Nov 2003 02:05

hi all,

I start training on 4th December and have heard via phone that I have the job sevral weeks ago.

I started getting worried this week as I leave my job with BA in NCL this Friday as I still have had no correspondence other than the call.

A recruitment officer assured me everything was okay, and that because of their huge workload they are basically plowing throught everthing as quick as possible. She advised me that I should receive something through the post this week.

Another question as I have friends who are crew, they had to go to uniform stores prior to starting training for their uniform, and also to have a medical...will this still be the case or will this just happen at training.

Also another thing to add (sorry if I am rambling on) my friend who is currently on a course at cranebank said that they have been putting in long hours and it has knocked a week off their training course!!!

M

ccrew21 19th Nov 2003 02:49

of course you r not rambling on!

we r all in the same situation- i have many questions too!

thing that im worried about is that both my friends (already started courses) recieved 7 workbooks 2 complete prior 2 starting! they were then examined on these during the first week.

this is quite normal- easyjet did the same! but how can we learn these workbooks if we dont recieve them?
also they are all wearing full uniform during course- need 2 get fitted prior 2 starting (all detailed in employ pack!!) but stil have no conf wen this will be?

I have hopefully found accom for my trainin near heathrow
(approx £350-£400 per month) which is ok! but im moving away from home as of 4thDec- so any letters/packs will be no good going 2 Glasgow when im in london!

hopefully we will hear something very soon- even a written letter of confirmtion to show aknowledgment of our employment with them? well i hope so!
i am almost certain all should be fine- & recruit dept r just ran off there feet just now (as they r still taking applics/intviews)

but would be vry comforting 2 hear somethin soon! (happy faces evry1- we will b in BA colours soon enough!!)

any news please update! take care-hpfully cu all soon A.x

missyb 19th Nov 2003 04:16

Hi Again,

Re the workbooks prior to training, well I saw my friends who is currently on course, and they consist of customer service, alliance and francises, geography (three letter country airport codes etc) and medi I think.

If you work for BA or within the travel industry it should be okay, if not well it shouldnt be that bad either, not that hard.

I know most of us are in limbo but I have been assured that peeps on the course commencing 4th Dec will be the next lot to receive correspondence.

I will let you all know asap
m

Kempus 20th Nov 2003 02:45

hi guys!

Dont worry bout the pre course study, all basic stuff. A guy on our course got his pack on the sat and started on the mon so dont be surprised if this happens!

As for uniforms, you do need to get measured before you start. The situation i was in i couldn't so dont be too worried if you cant. Basically it means you have to wait until everyone has their uniform before you can wear it!

Oh, and with the medical thing there really isnt one as such. just a form to fill in!

Word of advice for those going to LH and coming from afar, bring details of all the vacinations you've had and the dates they expire! Will save alot of hanging about and going back and forward to waterside!

stu

ccrew21 22nd Nov 2003 05:48

hey guys any1 on courses soon got any letters or packs thro yet?

im moving 2london in like 12days, still havent recieved ANY written correspondance from BA that i have job or recieved my welcome - pre trainin pack!! gettin bit worried now.

im def going to give personnel a call monday as cant wait any longer! think its just cause im like giving evrythin up & movin away that i sorta want some reassurance that contract etc is on the way??

anyway if u hear anythin let us know
big smiles :O

take care guys :p

Eddy 22nd Nov 2003 15:13

Massive congratulations to you all for being offered a job with the world's, and now MY favourite airline!! ;)

I start my training on 22nd December. A little pissed that it's just a few days before Christmas, but I want this so much that it's becoming somewhat of a non-issue.

I'm interested to hear from anyone (and I know I sent you an email, Stu) with regards to accommodation at LHR. Does anyone have a room available or know where I can check? I will have a look at the links at the top of this page, shortly.

I'm willing to pay for the room from tomorrow, to secure it, even though I won't need it until end of December.

Hoping for something in Hayes, just off Bath Road. That way, I might be able to walk to Compass. Don't have a car and don't drive and if I can avoid the need for these two things, I would do so.

Whether you can help with accommodation or not, I would be keen to catch up with some of you when I arrive in London. Go for a few drinks and talk about the course etc.

My email address is [email protected].

Guys and gals, the very best of luck to you all as you embark on this exciting and rewarding time in your lives.

With regards from Aberdeen,

Eddy

It's odd, isn't it. When BA called with the offer of interview, I got my invitation letter the very next day. Even when I called them back the next day to change the time of the interview, the NEW letter arrived the following morning.

Now, when the more important documents are needed, they seem to take a looooooong time to get here.

Flying_Sarah747 22nd Nov 2003 16:46

Wow...ok...I'm even more scared now!!!!!!! I decided to accept the job with BA, and my training course is apparently the last one, which starts on December 29th. Is anyone else on that course?? Anyone know if it's LGW or LHR??? Does it tell you that in the pack??

I'm scared enough about leaving Australia, which I've known my whole life, with no car, no bed, no perminant accommodation...I just hope my package comes soon!! I can't really leave here without it, cause it can't get from Australia back to London in 3 days!

If it's taking all you guys so long to get your package, what's the chances of mine arriving before I leave Australia??!!??!! I leave on December 25th...How do I get my uniform and do all the work if it gets sent to Australia and I'm then in London?!?!?!

Well, I guess nobody here can answer that! :)

So anyway, if anyone is on the December 29th training course, let me know, and see you soon!! :)

Golden Runways 22nd Nov 2003 18:13

Congratulations to you all. If your pre-work package doesn’t arrive in time, then it doesn’t. Don’t worry yourself about it. I got mine a day before the course started, and my best friend on day 3. You will visit Uniform stores (one in LHR, and a much better one in LGW) in your first week(s). They will fit you for a uniform, and mostly with some extra phone calls from your trainers, it will be ready for your first roster. When training, our courses used to go ‘into uniform’ after SEP.

The information in your work book, and first week culminate in one of the first tests, used to be late in the first week of training.

British Airways and red tape/paperwork.......just wait until you’re applying for your criminal disclosure certificate/US visa

Here’s hoping you get LHR, for many reasons! 22nd/29th Dec, welcome to the airline world! Remember the training motto; 'Ask fewer questions, go home earlier!’

Eddy 23rd Nov 2003 00:44

Sarah, great to see you took the job!!!!!!

We spoke by email over on FlightAttendants.org!!!!

I'm starting 22nd December but I am sure our paths will cross.

I'll send you an email with my cell number, give me a call when you arrive. I'm going to try and round up a few people for drinks one evening.

Also, let me know if you're looking for a house/flat share. I'm thinking of getting together with a few people and getting a three-bedroomed place near LHR......

Speak soon, and congrats again!
