I start April 26th now, LHR EF. So far so good, everyone at BA been brilliant, just have to hope that my references and Disclosure Scotland thing goes smoothly and without and drama!

bluestars 25th Mar 2004 15:34

hello everyone
have recently been offered a place on BA training course for 28 June 2004. I have been reading the posts on here with interest and have found them to be very helpful in putting my mind at rest at certain aspects of the course etc etc.

One thing that does concern me however is the rumour re: offer letter and contracts. I am very reluctant to hand my notice in before i have received one of these two!!! Has anybody else contacted HR about this and found that they will fax you something??

Also my company that I presently work for pays for my shoes and as Im allowed some now I thought i would get one last pair out of them to use when I start at BA... only thing is will I need Navy or black as I know the uniform is changing?

Im scared like hell at the thought of changing jobs again. But if the people i met at the interview are anything to go by then Im sure it will fine....

Look forward to meeting some of you when i eventually hit the skies (thats if i pass the course!!).

121 25th Mar 2004 18:24

bluestars
congratulations and wellcome.now regarding the colour of shoes,am assuming you are female, therefore with the current uniform you will need blue.the new uniform is supposedly being phased in from 13/04 and as you would expect with 13000 cabin crew will take sometime but in answer to your question i think its safe to assume you will probably need the blue ones.
i started flying with ba 20 years ago and i remember being in the same predicament regarding handing in my notice without written confirmation from ba ,they did not do it then and as far as i am aware they still don't .if they offer you the job over the phone i shouldn't worry to much about it but if you really aren't happy just give them a ring and tell them of your concerns
good luck with your training and you never know you might get the new uniform before i do.

sixmilehighclub 27th Mar 2004 11:59

Hurrah!

I've made it through the assesment and I'm awaiting a start date, but I was over-organised (!) and already have my CRC Disclosure back.

Thing is, I'm told it is only valid for 6 weeks, and I think it is unlikely I will get a start date before then! This means I will have to reapply. Any experts on the CRC Disclosures out ther who can confirm this please??

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and good luck in your courses. (SEP training is great fun on the Sims at Cranebank)

Happy Flying!

Hi there everyone!
I've got an interview with BA next month and I wondered if anyone knows if it's possible to go straight into Long-Haul?

They obviously don't specify what the position is on the internet and when I spoke to personnel, they said that they have a long internal waiting list, but that it is possible to go directly into Long-Haul.

I currently fly domestic and European routes with another airline and I don't think I'd want to move companies just to visit the same old places!

Does anyone have any advice for me? :D

April 26th Course

Hi,

First of all, is anyone out there on the April 26th Course. I was told it was LHR, but no one else seems to have heard of it, so I hope it is LHR and not LGW.

Also, I haven't even got my disclosure Scotland form despite already being given a course date - I will call BA to ask about this, but does anyone know how long the processing time right now is to get this all done and completed?

To answer the question about L/Haul, some crews were put straight into LGW WW, but I understand that the only recruitment for now is into LGW EF (even the BAjobs website specifies LGW only now) with a few spots still available on LHR courses.

KTPops 28th Mar 2004 20:19

Does that mean that you have to wait until you complete your initial training with the company before finding out whether you will be chosen for WW or EF?

Don't get me wrong, it would be fantastic to be offered a job with a company as established as British Airways, I just feel that I'd like to know in advance whether I would be flying Long or Short Haul!

bluestars 29th Mar 2004 05:48

Hi
Thanks for the info 121... and the reassurance... with the high cost of living here I cant afford to be unemployed!!! I will give them a call.

KTpops.... when I attended my interview in February they gave an indication then what they were recruiting for and it was heavily leaning towards Heathrow/Gatwick Eurofleet.... I then got a letter stating I had been successful and that I was in a holding pool about 10 days after the interview. About a month or so later BA called me and gave me a start date and I asked them which fleet it would be for and sure enough it was Euro fleet. Having said that my boyfriend applied last year for what he thought was Heathrow Euro and then after accepting the position and got through his offer letter he was actually on Gatwick Long haul. I think when they call you and offer you a training date you should make sure you ask them.... I had to ask twice as im the opposite to you as only wanted short haul.... Anyway Good Luck!

SixMileHighClub.... yes your disclosure form is only valid for 6 weeks after which time you will for sure have to reapply. It really is a complete farce in my opinion... I did my assessment in February and the first course I was offered was in May??? However I think each successful applicant may experience different things so fingers crossed you will get an earlier start date.... :ok:

crash_1983 29th Mar 2004 17:55

Hey guys n Girls,

Just wondering if there are any Cabin Crew out there, who are looking to fill a room, i started with an Airline a few weeks ago, and am now looking to permanantly live in the Gatwick area.

Eddy 29th Mar 2004 21:20

Word on the street, guys and gals, is that all future recruitment will be for EuroGatwick. I would be quite surprised if any further recruitment was done for LGWWW as I have a number of colleagues from my training course who are being rostered Standby blocks lasting weeks on end. I think they maybe over-recruited?!?!

I think that it would be a shame for anyone to turn down the job just because they were offered EFLGW. Sure, it's not the best, but in all honesty, you can earn reasonable money there. The routes are kinda nice and it's a really small and friendly bunch of crew.

sixmilehighclub 29th Mar 2004 22:26

Bluestars - Thanks for your comment re CRCs.

I suppose its possible in the six weeks following my disclosure I could commit an unspeakable crime which is why I guess they give it an expiry, so they can check again I havent been a bad girl!

But yep, bummer, subject to my 5 year referencing I could start tomorrow, I came out of work in January and I am desperate for the income. I don't want to work anywhere else so I'll have to hang on in there until I'm called!! Fingers crossed I dont have to start selling my body first!

See that girl selling the Big Issue outside Terminal 4? (with her hair in a pleat and full make up on) Thats me!! lol

Spare any change gov'?

:ok:

YYC F/A 29th Mar 2004 22:48

Hey SixMileHigh,

I'll have to keep an eye out for the pleated hair full make up on big issue seller at T4 :D

I'd give BA a call on the 0870 60 80 747 number. I applied the second day of posting Cabin Crew back in Aug/Sep of last year, but didn't interview until February of this year!

Anyway, they called me up and offered me May or June. However due to my contract ending at my current airline, I subsequently called them back a few weeks later and explained to them I could start earlier, and when I called them up they took a message and got one of the 'cabin crew' recruitment people to call me back. They offered me an earlier date in April (which they just reconfirmed with me today, yay!).

I've found everyone to be supernice and helpful, so maybe if you give them a call and explain your situation...? I know that most of the people who actually answer the calls are in general recruitment, and so you may have to be a little bit persistent (in the nicest most friendly way of course!) to speak to someone dealing with Cabin Crew course dates specifically.

There are (apparently) still some spaces on the May and June LHR EF courses so you never know. Good luck!

BA Interview HELP!!!!

British Airways Interview! I Need some help!!!

Hello everyone,

I've got an interview with British Airways May 6th.
I was wondering if anyone could help me on what the format is?What should I expect from the interview... I know some companies in the UK have math tests is this also true of BA? Are the tests hard? What type of questions should I expect? :)

One more thing, anyone know of any cheap places to stay in the area of the interview?

Thanks everyone.
-upinthesky-
:D

Anti-ice 25th Apr 2004 15:04

I may be wrong, but i believe BA still have some type of group interview - to see you work/interact with other people - during this they are mainly trying to weed out those that are A)overbearing , B) Don't participate at all !!

Then you may have a 1 to 1, or 1 to 2 interview which may last 20-30 minutes or so.....

I know for a fact that they are looking for people who will join the airline with a high level of commitment (regardless of fleet which everyone always wants to know) , and also who works well with people and if they've flown previously will not keep rattling on about former work experiences/positions and so on...... !

The maths questions are relatively simple, but you should be able to do multiple exchange rate conversions in your mind at a reasonably fast pace . . . . you may be on a quick flight where there is no duty free computer and you have to serve people pretty efficiently.:uhoh:

Relax though, most of the interviewers are crew and realise people are nervous!
Good Luck :ok:

EAF122 25th Apr 2004 16:18

HELLO UPINTHESKY
nothing to worry about, very easy, one group excersice, - one to one (2 to 1), interview- last for 40 minutes-and the presentation of the company-
i had my interview last wednesday and i got a letter yesterday saying i been succesful, but not training courses at the moment, thats means im i hold.
so go there be your self, relax and enjoy your future flight!!!!
about accomodation there is a lot of hotels in the bath road, i believe the cheaper is ibis or holiday in.

good luck ;) :ok: :O

sixmilehighclub 27th Apr 2004 21:50

Hey Congrats EAF, see you in the sky! - Or at Cranebank, subject to your start date!

UpInTheSky - Interview is exactly how EAF says.

Just be yourself, be aware of whats going on around you.

Your two to one interview is mainly about your background and experiences you have encountered. So providing you have been out in the big bad world a few times, you'll be fine!!

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone.....

for the wonderful information and all your help!

I am just wondering one thing....

When I spoke to the BA recruiting team 2 weeks ago they said they were going to send me some information along with some paperwork I needed to have completed before arriving for the interview via snail mail BUT I have yet to receive anything and I am getting worried since I am leaving for LHR next week...should I call them and have them send it to me via e-mail or should I wait a couple more days?

trips

is the basic salary the same for EF LGW as it is for EF LHR?
does anyone know how feasible it will be to commute from NCL on EF LHR/LGW?
can anyone post an example of the trips they have done for LHR and LGW EF in the last month or couple of weeks?

thanks

upinthesky 13th May 2004 19:40

I had my interview May 7th....just wondering how long before BA informs you wether you got the job or not?

They said 1 week at the interview but I'm wondering if for me it will be longer since I'm in Canada?

Any information would be helpful...I am very anxious to find out and hopefully I will be flying soon! ;)

Thanks

Hey guys/gals

I heard BA is recruiting, I applied last night again after 6 months, see how I go with my application :)

Good luck to all , who are applying :E

Cheers

BA has been recruiting since January (according to the info given by them at the company info session)!

They also say that if you are not successful this time you have to wait a year before you can reapply. But give it a shot maybe they won't even realize!

Good luck,
-upinthesky-:)

sixmilehighclub 15th May 2004 09:23

Up in the sky - Yep it is usually a week, you can always call them when a week has passed and they should be able to tell you if your letter has gone out. They cannot disclose the outcome though. Be prepared though if you are offered, as you may have a few months to wait until you can start, and may not be given a start date until a few weeks after your letter.

Is anyone out there on June courses??

BA July courses

Hello everyone,
I've been on this site for months but never realised there's a forum just for cabin crew-WOW!

I am currently working for FCA (ex air2000) based at LGW, but I am in for the 12th july BA course for the Eurogatwick fleet (so they said but they could change their mind again as usual!)

Anybody on that course? Anybody works at LGW SH?
I am desperate to hear anything you might know, since my contract hasn't been posted yet and I need to give notice to my company very soon but feel a bit nervous about it...

Thank you for your help!!!!

FBW :)

EF LGW

Try searching for the following topics, which are all aimed at EF LGW.

"BA...do I need to worry?"
"A question or all you BA guys reading"

Just to warn you though. There is sometimes some very negative things said about LGW, but pay no attention to it. Afterall it is BA and you ca make up your own mind.

PM me with any questions and I will endeavor to reply.

Good luck and see u around jubilee!

BA Application LGW and LHR

Hi Readers

I have filled online application for BA Cabin Crew LHR and LGW last week, never done this kind of work before but good knowledge of flying and customer services.

I would like the feed back on BA Selection Procedure and the Stages involve and the venue for selection.

I am hoping to get call for the selection so please help me.

Lookforward for your advise and help.

:ok: :ok:

Tiger 28th May 2004 07:08

TIP: Only apply for LHR. T&C, pay are a lot better than LGW. Transfering to other fleets ie World Wide if you want long haul far easier than from LGW Eurofleet.

justwannabeapilot 28th May 2004 09:28

Firstly you do not apply for a base you apply for a position. It is up to BA to decide which base you get and which fleet according to manpower and operational needs.

My advice : Go for it!!!

For everyones whingeing and BA-bashing I can honestly say I enjoy working for BA. Yes there are problems sometimes but you show me a company anywhere in the world that doesnt and I will ask you for their HR departments number cause I wanna work there!!!

If you need any help with the selection process/interview let me know.

Good luck.

How long to find out?

Hi,

I applied for Cabin Crew at LGW (as advertised online) on Monday just gone this week.. how long should I expect to wait to get a response from them? They said you would hear between 7-10 days... so I hope they ring me soon and I don't receive a rejection letter!!

Thomas :D :)

worldwidelad 28th May 2004 10:27

I waited 7 weeks for a reply! I rang them a few times to check if they had my application and they couldn't locate it!!

It was eventually found! Most initial communication for me was by post.

Good luck! It's a great company to work for! If you need any further help or have any questions send me a pm. :p

Hi guys,

Have a friend who has a single room near LGW (10 minutes) available. Would be ideal for a female air stewardess as the other house mates are also female air stewardess'. Room available towards the end of June 2004. If this is of interest, please PM or e-mail me on the following for further details.

BA Interview yesterday

Hi all!

I had a BA interview yesterday at Heathrow. I was just wondering when exactly they call you if you have been successful? I have woken up already really nervous and am waiting by the phone. Can someone help me please?

Thanx :)

Floaty 8th Jun 2004 11:19

Hi Thomas, check your mail instead! I got my interview on June 3rd, their letter was dated June 4th and I got it in the mail on June 5th!

The content of the letter was not clear (positive reply but no starting date... very vague about future training courses... a medical questionnaire to complete and some info about the disclosure scotland were included in the pack), so I called the recruiter and asked for more info.

I got told that this is a STANDARD LETTER, that there are courses taking place from now until September and that I would be contacted by phone within 2 weeks to fix a starting date.

So, Thomas, hang in there and let us know how you go!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw, I am ex-FCA (air2000) and I hope I'll get to train again with missus FlyByWire so that I can give her tons of lifts home in my shiny red car, screaming italian songs together! Aaahhh my favourite 'lil Cozzzaaaa! Hehehe! :} Gosh that sounds so crap now! But hey, after hours and hours of training spent in a tiny room with no windows and exams over exams, no wonder you turn a trifle nerdy!! :8

p.s. there is a room for rent in my house, only 4 female cabin crew, non-smokers. The room has a single bed, it's not big but it's quiet, the garden is fab! It is probabily more suitable for a car owner as it is 10' drive from LGW. Price is under £300 with bills. Send me a private message.

FJ :ouch:

emily_m 9th Jun 2004 19:08

Hi , I have seen quite a few posts about people " Commuting" from as far away as Aberdeen to LGW and LHR working as CC for BA.
How does this work then because I thought you had to be within 2 hours drive maximum of the airport??
Would love to apply to BA but we cant move from the West Mids as Hubbys self employed here.

Thanks
Emily

Carnage Matey! 9th Jun 2004 22:35

LOTS of crew commute from the West Mids, short haul and long haul. You've just go to be prepared to spend lots of time on the road.
