Can anyone tell me what GNVQ stands for
Hi There,

GNVQ = General National Vocational Qualification.

:ok:

ccrew21 21st Dec 2003 21:49

hey guys just reading info that PNH had posted- looks like they had a bad time of it- i must admit on my course we have had nothing like that @ all! Although everythin hasnt went completely 2 plan- all has gone well & the trainin has been great- so please dont let any of that put u off! as for low moral- i would need 2 ask where? cause ive been there 3 weeks now- aint seen any as yet. every1 is really excited & lookin 4ward 2 going online!

got my rostar other day- so that made me even more excited! heehe

as for disclosure scotland- if the criminal certificate doesnt come back before the end of trainin then yes thats correct you can not fly- you can be issued with a land-side ID- which we all have- but not a air-side ID for flying- so try get forms sent a.s.a.p.

ill keep u all updated- take care A.x

Flying_Sarah747 22nd Dec 2003 22:41

Hmm...oh dear, that's gonna suck with the disclosure Scotland thing! I've never even had a speeding or parking fine! If I'm grounded for how ever long it takes to come through, will they give me ground duties, or something else to do? Do they pay you before it comes through?

Sorry about all the questions, just curious so I can work out my budget etc.

Well, just 3 days til I fly out. I'm getting scared now!! I think it's finally hit home that I'm leaving!!!:uhoh:

And Eddy, how'd your first day of training go?? :)

Golden Runways 23rd Dec 2003 02:48

New employees will be unable to fly without their disclosure certificate. BA does offer ground duties with payment to maternity types, and other ‘grounded’ crew, don’t know about the specifics in your situation.

You should be aware that because your flying allowances are paid a month in arrears, your first two months pay will be totally crap. It will consist mainly of your basic pay which is minimal. When you have paid for bond/rent/travel etc, you’ll even consider eating those deli sandwiches that we serve. Not fab news, but forearmed is forewarned and all that.

As for those old A320s, they’re really luverrrly. G-BUSB, being the 2nd one they delivered, the first one having, er, crashed. They didn’t used to have the winglets, can’t remember if they’ve since been fitted. Not as big an anorak as I thought I was.

Moral is always changing. It is always good to see new and extra enthusiastic crew coming online, gives everyone a kick up the arse!

The transfer issue is always contentious. Don’t join thinking you will transfer from Eurofleet to World Wide in any great hurry, 2 year minimum, 8 year maximum. Those of you going straight to LGW WW are very lucky, fab base. Things have a habit of changing overnight though, airline life is never predictable! That’s why it’s so good.

Flying_Sarah747 23rd Dec 2003 21:15

Well, I just got my package today!!!!!!! I thought they'd redirected it to my London address, but the Australian one must have already been sent off! Good thing I did get it, cause it said you needed tetinus shot BEFORE training, so I rushed off to the docs and got one today, along wth that horrible polio drop thingi!

Well, disclosure Scotland...All my info is Australian, so I'm betting it's gonna take even LONGER for them to process it!!!! At least I've got it now though! :)

Just a quick question...Does the work stuff that you need to learn before training come in a different package to the medical/disclosure Scotland etc? Cause there's no work stuff in my package!

Flying_Sarah747 24th Dec 2003 18:53

Ok, now I'm stressing out, and that's not normal for me!!! I NEVER stress!! BA rang me today @ 5pm Australian time, the day before Christmas, the day before I fly out to ask me to get in contact with all my referees, cause they've not been able to get in contact with some of them, such as my university and high school, and one of my old work places!!!! So I try calling them, and they all have automated messages saying they won't be back until 5th Jan and 2nd of Jan! HELP!!!!!!! :ugh:

Anyway, just had to get it off my chest!! I've got til the end of training to have it organised, so I'm sure it can't take that long...Just a lot of money in overseas phone calls!!!!

Well, I'll talk to you all once I've settled in in London. Good luck everyone in training, and thank-you so much to everyone who helped me!!! :)

Hand Solo 24th Dec 2003 20:58

I wouldn't worry about Disclosure Scotland too much, they only check for crimes committed in the UK, not overseas, so they we won't be tracing you to Oz! Thats part of the reason why the whole thing is such a farce!

Flying_Sarah747 24th Dec 2003 23:33

I was thinking that!! I actually rang and asked them this afternoon!!!! What's the point of me paying 13 pounds when I've never even lived in the UK? It's funny! Not that I have anything to hide here in Australia though. Never even had a speeding or parking fine! ;)

Am gonna send it straight off when I arrive on the 26th...Hopefully it should be processed pretty fast since there's no record of me at all! hehehe!

justwannabeapilot 25th Dec 2003 01:46

Woohoo!!!!!! First day of training completed!!!!!!!

Right first off .... the WW LGW / Eurofleet question. It must be chosen by throwing darts at a dartboard!!!

I found out today that I am WW LGW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways I am a happy bunny indeed.

Clearfortheoption ... cheers mate, I will SMS you sometime. Do I have your number? Send me a private message.

Regarding the Disclosure ... get it sent off as soon as possible. Unfortunately being from outside the UK and having no record makes NO difference. I am from South Africa and at the moment with the backlogs etc etc its apparently looking like for some people anything up to 5 weeks!!!

Anyways good luck peeps ... any questions let me know!!!

:ok:

BA Cabin Crew Interview

Merry Christmas!

What is the interview with BA like?

craic1510 25th Dec 2003 15:31

Sarah_747

Hiya girl! Glad to hear that you are joining a fellow aussi in the uk! I just thought I'd write about the disclosure forms. I know I am with Easyjet but I had to send one of too. They are currently taking 6 weeks at least to come back. Mine took 5 and a half. you are grounded until they come back as you need the disclosure to get your id pass. It is currently the busy season for the forms.

As for your references - don't stress. They should follow them up during your training. I had problems with easy in that regard too. All my references had to give a certificate of employment, with dates that I worked there (if they didn't or couldn't give you a proper reference). Problem is - Easy wanted them to be addressed personally to the company but certificates of employment are meant to be kept for life so they are adressed 'to whom it may concern'

Anyhow, for the references they had problems getting - easy posted a gap to a persoanl reference to check the dates with them. It is a tad complicated - but don't worry. Just remember the 8 hour time difference. Usually by the time BA staff clock on, aussi staff have clocked off. My mam did a lot of running around for me and faxing in oz!

Ok well, keep in touch, hope everything goes well. Take care and merry christmas

Hi folks!

Merry Xmas!

Just had my first trip a few days ago, was a back to back and still aint sure what time zone i'm in! Congrats on all who have just got thro and will be joining myself at the beach fleet.

Wanted to say that i didn't get my disclosure scotland certificate until the day before i was meant to fly and with a lot of running around like a nutter, i got my id! so yes you may be waiting till the elventh hour!

Also, another reason for this post, if your like me and moved far away from home and will be moving to around lgw, give us a shout! its only on days like today when you find out how lonely this job can be and as sad as it sounds, bit hard to make friends when you dont know anyone to go to the pubs with in the first place!

Anywho, peace and goodwill to ya all!

kempus

craic1510 26th Dec 2003 17:12

Mr Seatback 2 27th Dec 2003 15:09

How long did it take from the first interview to being offered the job at BA? Sounds like the whole process has been pretty quick!

How many stages are there?

hostie 30th Dec 2003 04:27

ayomide.

the BA interview is like all interviews, it's a process of ticking boxes, you need to give the answers that they are looking for.

The group discussion is watching how you interact with others

The one to one is all about you telling them that you have the relevant experience, so have some examples of situations ready (as it's always hard to think of them in an interview situation.)

The usual ones are, when you've gone that extra mile, when you've given excellent customer service, when you've recovered a bad situation, when you've worked as a team, when you've dealt with a personality clash, when you've had to work when you were demotivated, cultural awareness, etc etc

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on
When and where's the interview?

accomodation at cranebank

I am starting a training course on the 12th January and am trying to sort out some accomodation- can anyone help?! Any information on somewhere nearby would be great- thank you!

tilly666 3rd Jan 2004 19:52

Anyone starting the 23 Feb course for EF LGW?

Rang me New Years Eve! Does anyone know of B&B's around Cranebank to stay at for 5 weeks or any other temporary accom?

I am going to try and commute to LGW, so need some B&B's around there for when I am online too!!! :)

Also what is EuroFleet LGW like? What are rosters like? How many trips (nitestops)? And more importantly what is likelihood of getting LH LGW?

I am very nervous, alot to organize and just worried about accommodation so any help would be great!! :ok:

Thanks ;)

Flying_Sarah747 4th Jan 2004 00:56

Hey everyone!!!

Well, I've just done my first week of training. It's sooooo much fun!! Our trainers are excellent, and everyone in my group passed the 10 steps to excellence!! :) I've been based at LHR Eurofleet, the fleet I wanted, so I'm VERY happy about that!

I'm a little home sick, but I forget about it while I'm at training. I can not believe that we're actually getting paid for something so fun!!

If there's any Aussies thinking of applying, I definately recommend it! They are very accommodating, for example organising my national insurence number thingi for me.

Well, I'll get back to you all next time I'm at the computer! Good luck everyone else in training and at interviews etc. :)

LHR Eurofleet
Sarah,

I thought you wanted Long Haul

trolleylad 14th Jan 2004 02:28

hey Tilly,

Am starting the course on 23rd Feb too for Euro LGW. The course is at LGW as far as I know and they are laying on transport for the bits that we have to do in LHR.

Got quite a bit of info if you wanna mail me, some hearsay some fact.

look forward to seeing you there!!!

tilly666 16th Jan 2004 16:49

trolleylad check your PM's! ;)

missyb sent you a PM :D

Tiger 16th Jan 2004 19:24

Congratulations to all, and look forward to meeting you on Eurofleet LHR.

To answer a few questions here.

Eurofleet LGW was the once EOG. Eurofleet LGW is seen as a subsidary company within BA and therefore carries different terms and conditions and pay. When CityFlyer was taken over the name changed to Eurofleet LGW.

To those that know I am not being unkind, they find out on the course within 4-5 days.

The BA which is the real BA [to put it simply] is Eurofleet LHR and WW LHR and WW LGW.

EOG crews have been transfering up to LHR Eurofleet and it was taking 5 years on average, however the flow rate has increased to 3-4 years...2000/2001 EOG crews have been coming up.
However, CityFlyer crews have not been given this and rumour has it they won`t be.

EuroLGW crews at present can only transfer to EuroLHR. From there you can transfer to WW LHR/WW LGW. WW LGW is seen "similar" to Euro LHR as monthly pay is similar or sometimes slightly less hence why both bases have recuited and they don`t set min. times to have worked for the company as cc

As for how long to transfer?.....how long is a piece of string?

Unfortuately, to be blunt you have just started at BA and there are crew who have been there a fair bit of time who move before you. Its could be sometime before you move to WW LGW.

pootle 17th Jan 2004 16:48

From what I can gather from reading the forum, if you are successful after your interview you hear quite quickly by phone. I had an interview 2nd week of december, phoned on the 23rd to find out state of play and they said they hadn't had the decision on my application back yet but I should hear either way sooner rather than later. Well I still haven't heard a thing so I figure that is bad news:( Can anyone tell me their experience regarding this. Thanx

aviatorgirl72 17th Jan 2004 18:42

GCSE Maths!!!

Can anyone tell me whether BA will accept an application if you are undertaking your exam.

I have GCSEs and two A levels, but unfortunately got a D grade in maths.

I see from the online registration it will not let you proceed if you dont have maths.

But just wandering as I know they used to let you have twelve months or whatever to pass your languages.

Anyone have a recruitment or contact number to call them or write to them.

Thanks guys.

tilly666 18th Jan 2004 18:48

Is anyone else who has been offered position at SH LGW a bit worried? Reading the 'Rumours & News' pprune forum, apparantly it isn't a nice place to be at the moment!!

With alot of staff leaving, there doesn't seem much hope that my fleet will be changed to either LHR or LH LGW!!

It has been my dream to work for BA mainline, however I have left a stable permanent contract in the hope that I will be happy at BA. I also intend on commuting, due to family circumstances but there has been a vast reduction in nightstops and allowances at LGW so I don't think thats going to go my way either!!

I would appreciate anyones comments about this, as I am quite concerned and worried after reading the post!

Also if anyone knows any details of where the 23 Feb SH LGW course is, post it. Have been sent info by BA but there is no mention of course! It would be a help if anyone knew of somewhere to stay for the duration of the course and a list of B&B's at LGW, which are crew friendly.

Thanks guys, hope all goes well for all other new crew. :ok:

Tiger 19th Jan 2004 14:31

Eurofleet LGW isn`t Main Line. Allowances are paid is hourly rate in the region of arround £2.00 p/h. Max number of days trip is 4.
Days off per month around 8. Rosters work by crew bidding system, so you can ask for trips.

Hopefully this helps, but I have never been based LGW and its what transfering crews have told me.

Flying_Sarah747 20th Jan 2004 03:58

Hi everyone,

It's me again!! Just popping in to say hi, and that I've started my SEP training, and will be doing my practicals tomorrow! Good luck to everyone else who is starting training courses. The trainers are fantastic, and really help you out, so there's no need to stress about anything! :) I've got full marks in all my tests so far, so if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!!

I got my uniform the other day, I feel so proud wearing it, and I think we have to start wearing it to training on Wednesday, so I can[t wait for that!

Anyway, just wanted to say a quick hi!!! Have an early start tomorrow!!! :=

mw1 21st Jan 2004 00:14

Hi

Im due to start training soon - based on LHR Eurofleet - and I have a few questions that Im hoping somebody out there can answer for me!....

How do the rosters work? Are they fixed ie 6 days on 3 days off?
Do you normally start on an early and finish on a late?

What aircraft are you trained on?

How much money can I expect to clear?

How many crew on each aircraft type?

well, think thats it for now - any help would be great!

Thanks!

exmax 21st Jan 2004 07:47

BA Recruitment Phase 2

BA has re-opened interviews, and after a batch of interviews this last week, expects to do some more smaller recruitment events through the year.

I was originally called for interview in September, but due to personal reasons, I was unable to go. When I called up at the end of January, they were very accommodating about rescheduling me for Feb, and I had my interview last week. They explained that they are hiring small groups and keeping them in a pool for when training courses are scheduled later this year. They did indicate that the next few courses would likely be EF LGW. I had originally applied in Sept for LHR, and they said that for those people who had applied for a LHR vacancy who would find it difficult accepting LGW, they could 'wait' for a LHR course, but it might be several months.

I received a letter a few days ago informing me that I have been successful :ok: , but that there are no courses available yet, and that they will be in touch again when courses are scheduled.

If you are still thinking of applying, get your application in now as they will only have the vacancy re-opened for a few more days now!

Good Luck to all who apply. If anyone else is waiting for a course date, drop me a line and we'll keep in touch and share info!

Thanks! ;)

coogie 6th Mar 2004 04:46

Hi!

Here goes my first post.. :)

I got my letter a few weeks ago saying I'd been successful :D but no training courses scheduled yet.
Just wondered if anyone in the holding pool had heard anything yet or had any idea how long it might be til any courses, and for which fleet??

I'm due to start my training on a seasonal charter contract in 2weeks time as I'd already left my previous job before I heard anything from BA. Does anyone think this is a bad idea or if it would go against me when I here back from BA

Thanks in advance for any help!

YYC F/A 10th Mar 2004 23:12

Hey Coogie,

They were calling people yesterday and today offering course dates. They have the courses planned for a the next few months. I was offered EF LHR on May 2nd or June 7th.

Sounds like they are working through the lists of everyone hired but in the holding pool.

Good luck, stay by your phone, let me know what you hear!

Eddy 11th Mar 2004 02:55

Hey, YYZ F/A, are you taking the job???

If you do, you'll no doubt have a few Aberdeen night-stops. Be sure to drop me a line at [email protected] or call me on +44 (0)7793 353864 and I'll catch up with ya.

Best of luck with the training! You've got my details if you need any info about the course etc!

Cheers,

Eddy

boyo25 17th Mar 2004 10:16

Hi one and all!

Very happy as found out last week that I'll be starting my training for Eurofleet LHR on 3rd May! Would love to hear from anyone else who's on the same course.

A few questions tho - I haven't received any written confirmation yet and I'm a bit nervous handing in my notice to current employers without this - any advice???

Also, how far (commuting time) from LHR are crew allowed? I currently live approx 1.5 hrs from the airport but if possible would like to stay put, at least for the time being.

Am very excited!

missyb 18th Mar 2004 20:15

hiya,

Dont worry to much about written confirmation re training course. I completed mine in December and probably only received it a week before. If you are in any doubt ring recruitment as they are helpful and will reasure you that everything is okay.

As far as commuting I would stay put 1.5 hours seems great to me. I commute from the North East, and you will find that crew commute from all over Europe not just the Uk.

Anyway enjoy and will prob see you on the LHR-NCL shuttle in the summer.

M:ok:
