Congratulations to everyone for gettin into the worlds fav. I start my course on 15/12/03 and cant wait for it. Finally my dream for working for a national airline will be realised.

According to GoldenRunway "hope all of the new comers get into LHR for many reasons". Why is this so? Please explain if its possible coz im just curious and have got lots of questions.

But if there are anyone out there whos starting on 15/12/03 pls reply to me too cos it wld be good to chat b4 we start. By the ways ive not received any packs and i too need to give my current employer some form of notice. Ill call them on wed just to query. Dont want to seem to be hassling them tho.

Take care all of you and hopefully will be able to go thorugh the course with not much problems.

I strongly believe in the motto for the course......."Dont ask much questions go home early".

Speak to you soon n ill post a msg on here if IU get an answer from BA personnel dept regarding the offer letter.

Hi to all,

Congratulations to everyone, I'm starting on December 1st and I don't have absolutely nothing, not even accommodation, I'm also scared but I think is pretty normal, I'm leaving Portugal, a small airline to go to what I consider the best airline in the world, so it does worth the effort, if anyone knows something about accommodation please let me know.

Best regards,

Pedro

Can anyone answer a quick question about the training :

SWIMMING
---------------------------------
I am a good swimmer, but I was wondering whether the swimming/life raft thing has to be done fully clothed or in normal sorta shorts and t-shirt.

Thanks!

Flying_Sarah747 24th Nov 2003 20:37

Thanks for the words of support everyone! :)

I've just got a few little questions:

1. How do you go about doing the security check? Does that come in the package? It says that you can't commence employment until it is done, so can I do it here from Australia???

2. If the package hasn't arrived before I start training, how do I get into Cranebank without some proof that I'm supposed to be there? Would my interview letter be ok? Or would my name be on a list?

That's all for now!! Thanks everybody! :)

Eddy 24th Nov 2003 21:38

Hi Sarah

The security check is done in the form of a "questionnaire", if you will. You fill it in and return it to BA. It takes about 6 weeks to process but I'm sure you'll be allowed to start training before it's finished.......

That form will arrive with your letter of appointment.

As for getting in to The Rivers / Cranebank, I don't think that would be a problem either. The bus driver that took me to the offices didn't look at my letter and I am sure that the people on the front desk will be able to confirm that you're meant to be there!

gps117 24th Nov 2003 23:12

well its gone! finally finished my form so its fingers crossed time!

one question tho - used to work for ba a few years ago on the ground, think my recors is A1, do you think this will go against me (working for them that is)

Also if i end up sh, is it feasible to commute form manchester i f i have somewhere to stay in lhr should i need too

cheers

g

Eddy 24th Nov 2003 23:19

Hi GPS

I had a bit of a talk with the recruitment people at BA about commuting - me from Aberdeen.

They suggested that on Short-haul, commuting isn't really a good option. This being because the number of long trips is quite limited and that a lot of the Euro flights leave early on in the morning.

Do you have somewhere to stay during training? If not, I could suggest www.mminn.net. They have given me a great long-stay rate for a 6 week stay. It's about a 20 minute walk to Hatton Cross where the bus to the training office leaves from.

If you're looking for a house/flat share when/if you finally move to London full-time, let me know.

When do you start training?

gps117 24th Nov 2003 23:24

hi eddy

thanx for the fast response!!

only just sent my application form off today, but thanx for the vote of confidence ;-)

Dont worry if the pack doesnt come, they will sort something out and all will be cool!

There are many BA crew still waiting for internal transfer to LGW long haul. There is frustration that new entrants are leapfrogging internal moves. Not your fault, but nevertheless an unresolved issue. LGW short haul, whilst much fun, has lesser terms and conditions to all other fleets.

I strongly believe in the motto for the course......."Dont ask much questions go home early".
Remember though, the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask.

am a good swimmer, but I was wondering whether the swimming/life raft thing has to be done fully clothed or in normal sorta shorts and t-shirt.
Swimming togs and t-shirt.

It says that you can't commence employment until it is done, so can I do it here from
Australia???
You cannot fly without disclosure cert. You can be trained.

Also if i end up sh, is it feasible to commute form manchester i f i have somewhere to stay in lhr should i need too
People commute to short haul LHR from all over the world. The hardest commuter routes are MAN, GLA, EDI, and NCE. Too many commuters, all with huge seniority. There are many B&B's for overnight stays if on earlies. Mid afternoon flights easier. Set off early and you'll be Ok. Has to be better than the M25!

Welcome to LHR, the golden runways.

Flying_Sarah747 25th Nov 2003 14:46

Hi everyone! :)

Was just looking around for rental properties, and if there's anyone interested in sharing a place around the Acton/Ealing areas, give me a PM!

Eddy 25th Nov 2003 18:00

Kempus, where's your Visa for????

Thanks,

ccrew21 25th Nov 2003 20:29

silly question- but just making sure!

i know @ lgw lh we will be trained on 747 & 777.

what are they aricarft types that you are trained for on lhr-euro?

was told but cant memba- thanks....

p.s ANY BA crew out there on lhr euro?
wots the best trips goin from lhr?

take care

Eddy 25th Nov 2003 21:55

Hi mate,

Would imagine the Eurofleet at LHR will be A319, A320 and 757-200. I imagine also that you MIGHT get some training on the 767-300 as I think these are occasionally used in to Frankfurt, Milan and a few other Euro destinations.

Bulk of training though, would be the Airbuses.

Golden Runways 26th Nov 2003 05:47

where's your Visa for????
US visa required for long haul. Yellow fever jab req too, for africa etc.

(which) aricarft types that you are trained for on lhr-euro?
Main fleet is Airbus 319/20, 757, and 767. Unlikely, though possible, that you'll get 737 instead of 767.

wots the best trips goin from lhr?
Depends what you like. MAD/LCA/BCN/LYS. FCO is always good, best food/shopping/culture/people. ARN was good until moved hotel. Some trips earn more money, some better culture etc. The best trips are the ones with the best crews. Doesn't matter where you are then. 767 covers occasional Worldwide shortages, NAS/DAR/EBB/ACC/TLV and QRS(standby).

gps117 26th Nov 2003 17:55

elo again,

have also applied to bacx at manchester - anyone bacx crew?

OH MY GOD i got an interview!!!!!!

totally unexpected, any hints or tips ppplllleeeeaaaasssseeeee

spunkydunkie 28th Nov 2003 01:36

interview tips!!

hi there i went for interview yesterday.

started with 2/1 interview usual ? they wanted lots of specific examples of dealing with different situations/people. what do u know about ba / how do u think they are doing as a company etc..... that lasts about 30 mins, and i found that the hardest part coz its hard to think of specific examples there and then under pressure so have a think beforehand!!

Then there was a presentation for about 40 mins which explains more about the position/training/roster etc....

After that its the group exersize which is nothing to worry about and I actually really enjoyed it basically it was just discussing and making desicions within the group.

Haven't heard anything as yet but I know i gave it my best shot and was completly myself. The whole interview took about 3 hours and I met some lovely people out of it! good luck! :ok:

BA Bases/Fleets

This goes out to all of you who have just been offered a job with BA or are mid-training with the airline!

Do any of you yet know which fleet you're going to be working on?

Heathrow Long / Heathrow Short / Gatwick Long / Gatwick Short

Thanks

justwannabeapilot 29th Nov 2003 01:47

Back with the BA Family

Hey guys and gals. Got the phone call yesterday from BA having had my assessment on Wednesday and have received a job offer for cabin crew.

No ideas what base or what fleet yet but course starts on 24th December.

Anyone else starting on that date? Anyone looking for someone to share accommodation with for the course?

Any suggestions? Thanks!!! :ok:

sweety 29th Nov 2003 03:44

Well done!

Well done! I bet you are pleased - congratulations! :)

Eddy 29th Nov 2003 04:01

Just had it on pretty good authority that those being recruited in the latest string of new trainees are all going to either Gatwick Worldwide or Heathrow Eurofleet.

Both excellent places to work!!!!

Eddy 29th Nov 2003 13:33

justwannabeapilot, you've got a private message :)

missyb 30th Nov 2003 00:06

Hi All,

Well I eventually start my course December 04th, and need a little advice from anyone already on theirs.

I have found accom in Hayes and am thinking about taking my car down maybe Wednesday. I just wanted to ask anyone out there if we have access to car parking at either Hatton Cross or Cranebank. As I am travelling from NCL am feeling a bit nervous about driving all the way down then getting used to the traffic around LHR. I went on the RAC website and the route planner advised me it was only a 7 minute drive from Hayes to Hatton Cross.....sounds easy!

Any advice gladly appreciated

justwannabeapilot 30th Nov 2003 00:26

Hey guys ... thanks for the replies. I have worked at BA before so I pretty much know what the general setup is .. assuming they havent moved the goalposts too far!!!

Did any of you guys who know whether you are on LH LGW or SH LHR find out before the course? How did you find out?

Also regarding accommodation has anyone made any plans? Does anyone out there need a flatmate from the 24th December or thereabouts?

The parking question interests me as well. Are we allowed to park at Cranebank during the course? Anyone out there on the course at the moment who can shed some light on the current SOP's?

Eddy 1st Dec 2003 01:11

RE: Parking, I understand that parking facilities at Cranebank are strictly limited and you are advised AGAINST taking your car there.

What I would suggest, though, is trying to make your own way on public transport to training on the first day and ask your trainer about using other British Airways staff car parks. Of course, from there you'll be able to get a BA(X) shuttle bus to Cranebank.

Imagine you'll be issued with a BA pass immediately, so you should have access to parking etc.

121 1st Dec 2003 01:44

you're right hayes is a very short drive to hatton cross and cranebank,I don't know what time you have to be at cranebank everyday for training but don't forget that the airport area can be pretty busy during the rush hour,so obviously you'll need to leave a bit more time to get around.Regarding parking at cranebank,I know when we do our sep annual check we don't have any problems parking there, but then again that only lasts for 2 days.I don't know how long the training is these days but do know that there are going to be quite a few of you passing through the training school at the same time. The multi storey carpark there is a reasonable size but fills up quickly when cranebanks busy.Probably best to go in on the first day on the bus or tube, and find out from your trainers if there are any restrictions on parking on site, hatton cross station is about 10 minutes walk from cranebank.Oh and good luck to you all on your traing courses.

BA Longhaul Intake

Hi

Just wonder if BA are recruiting for Long Haul Cabin Crew (Worldwide Fleet) at LHR or LGW?

Thanks

Eddy 1st Dec 2003 21:27

BA's latest round of recruiting is for staff at LHR SH or LGW LH.

I think applications close tomorrow, so if you want in, do it quick!!!

tilly666 2nd Dec 2003 02:45

If there are no positions left at LH LHR then how, out of all the applications do they choose which successful candidates get LH LGW? I have just applied after alot of thought about life etc and after XX years of flying Long Haul would be a dream come true!

If I am successful at getting an interview is there anything that one should say to get Long Haul?

I just would love to know how they choose who gets LH?

Balboy 2nd Dec 2003 17:42

well after waiting 7 weeks, 2 phone calls and an email, BA have finally got back to me.....THEY DONT HAVE MY APPLICATION.

Even though I can review it on the recruitment site, they say they never had it. Been told to re submit(you can't) so I've sent them my password. To say I'm dissapointed is an understatement.

Good luck to you all....I think I will just give up...

Look Up 3rd Dec 2003 06:10

Username should be Justwannabeapilot!!!!

Balboy ... whatever you do dont give up!!! I had exactly the same problem. When I initially phoned up my application hadnt been submitted a month after I sent it in on the website.

They submitted it manually and I later received an interview after badgering them with a few phone calls to find out the status of my application.

Did the assessment and passed and was offered a job!!!!!

Moral of the story like I said above : NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Good luck and PM if you want any help, tips, etc etc.

Ba Training Course 8 January

Hi all,

I've just found out that I have been successful with my application to BA. I am on the Jan 8th training course - is anybody else on the same one?

Good luck to those still applying - the closing date is now Dec 5th!:ok:

tilly666 4th Dec 2003 02:52

I got interview on 9th December! ;)

Anyone else attending that day?
Having to stay in hotel monday night, but found reasonably cheap one on Bath Road. How far is that from the interview location?

Whats the interview like?

I am totally bricking it for interview and navigating myself round LHR from hotel to interview back to airport! Can anyone shed some light!!!

Rhyspiper 4th Dec 2003 03:55

Can anyone shed light on this matter?

Can anyone tell me if BA are still accepting applications, i have been regularly checking the BA recruitment website and have had no joy, it has been showing no current vacancies.

Where did everybody find out that BA was recruiting again?

Eddy 4th Dec 2003 05:54

Tilly666 - Bath Road is a great place to be located. Which hotel are you at? I've spent a lot of time down in London working (in my current post) and know the hotels on Bath really quite well. Basically, the higher the number, the further to the East side of the airport you'll be.

The perimeter road on the East of the airport runs pretty much from Bath Road right down to Hatton Cross. From Hatton, you get the BA4 bus (free Staff Shuttle provided by BA) to Cranebank where the interview is held.

The walk from midway along Bath (Visitor Centre, Renaissance Hotel, Radisson Edwardian Hotel area) to Hatton Cross would take about 20 minutes at a brisk pace. It's a nice walk though.

As an alternative, on the morning of your interview you could get the Hotel Hoppa bus back to Heathrow Airport from your hotel and go downstairs to the tube. Jump on the Pic. Line (Blue) and it will take you directly to Hatton Cross Station in about 5 minutes. The BA4 bus goes from right outside the station, on the middle traffic island.

Bus to Cranebank takes about 5 minutes and runs every 15 minutes from on the hour (XX:00, XX:15, XX:30, XX:45) - though I do suggest you leave about an hour extra when you make your way to the interview. It will NEVER hurt to be early.

After the interview, get the BA4 back to Hatton Cross and either jump on the underground again back to Heathrow (£1.20 each way, if my memory serves me), or one of the MANY free public buses that run around the area.

Totally easy!!! You'll be absolutely fine!

Go in there with plenty of free time, stand outside for a few minutes after getting off the bus, breathe deeply and have your documentation ready to hand over.

- PASSPORT, 2 x PASSPORT PICS, EDUCATION CERTIFICATES, COMPLETED BA PAPERWORK, NATIONAL INSURANCE NUMBER.

It looks good to have this ready, instead of having to fish around inside your bag at the Reception desk.

Relax, be yourself and smile and you'll do absolutely fantastically! Best of luck to you!

And Rhyspiper, check this out : http://www.britishairwaysjobs.com/ro...jsp?ID=1243053. Apps close 5th December. Good luck.
