Thanks Ops Room Junkie,
I will take your advise. Just must be the pressure of knowing that another strike might be around the corner.
I probably am a bit of a sensitive soul sometimes.

Betty Girl / Juan.
I think it is very easy to get pulled into debate/defence/argument when it is
a) something you feel very passionate about - which whatever side of the fence, we are all guilty of that.
b) an anonymous forum
c) typed words rather than aural debate - sometimes the meaning/context is hard to convey/understand.
I am sure we are all on egg shells today and I know I for one have been drawn into debates when I should have left alone. Sadly you can't always see this when in the midst.
I am glad you saw my concern was genuine.
Take care, keep your spirit up and keep contributing x x

Wise words.
I just don't know why I let myself take the bait as you say. I well and truly did and God knows why because it is always the same people that manage to wind me up.
Thanks again to both of you for your wise words.

Sorry, flippant remark and as you say, not meant that way.
What I was trying to say is that now the result is out, those that are pro-Bassa will be shouting from the roof tops and those pro-BA will debate the figures of those that produced this result.
My opinion is that the turn out to be low and that a minority of CC will now have spoken for the majority, but hey that is democracy.

British Airways cabin crew members of Unite have voted in support of industrial action by a huge margin.
Unite balloted 10,220 cabin crew. They voted as follows on the question “are you prepared to take part in strike action”:
Number of ballot papers returned = 7,335
Number of ballot papers found to be invalid = 5
Total number of papers counted = 7,330
Number voting YES = 5,751 (78.5% of valid vote)
Number voting NO = 1,579 (21.5%)
Unite general secretary-designate Len McCluskey said today: “For the fourth time in 13 months British Airways cabin crew have voted overwhelmingly in support of their union and expressed their dissatisfaction with management behaviour. Indeed, the turnout and the majority on this occasion are much greater than in the last ballot.
“Surely BA management must now wake up and listen to the voice of its skilled and dedicated employees. This dispute will be resolved by negotiation, not litigation or confrontation, and it is to negotiation that BA management should now apply itself. We are ready.”
ENDS
Turnout for the ballot was 75 per cent.

So barely half of all BA's cabin crew voted for a strike. Ho hum.
" This dispute will be resolved by negotiation, not litigation or confrontation, and it is to negotiation that BA management should now apply itself. We are ready." So why haven't Unite or BASSA been "ready" for the last 2 years, Len?

And SwissRef has also pointed out there that only 56% of those balloted voted for strike action .... and a far lower number of cabin crew voted for action than last year.

Why on earth didn't the other 29% of the membership vote?! Grr.. gets on my nerves.
Thats not exactly a huge majority when you look at the fact its JUST over 50% of the total membership who voted yes. Add those who've now left the unions it doesn't exactly look promising does it?
No wonder Lens hoping it will open up fresh talks. Doesn't look like another strike will have a huge impact.

I expect that some of the 29% did not vote because they had already left the union.
Bassa sent out a lot of ballot papers to people that were not members and they would not have voted.
Having said all of that, I still feel although it is only just over half the crew it is still a lot of people. Had the staff travel issue not still be rumbling on it might have been quite different I think.

So barely half of all BA's cabin crew voted for a strike. Ho hum.
Given that BA employ 13000 crew and only 5751 said yes then its well under half the workforce voting to strike.
UNITE know that if people don't have the courage to cast their vote as in nearly 3000 members then they won't have the courage to actually strike either and cannot be relied upon.
This is the smallest Yes vote to date, I wonder what makes UNITE think that any further strikes will be sucessfull? BASSA will never blame poor leadership and decision making on their part
