Nice passenger/crew thread

Right, to counteract the stupid pax thread let's have a positive one!

Tell us about your recent lovely pax experiences or your pleasant encounters with nice cabin crew to give a warm fuzzy glow.

Recent flight: Male pax asked me humbly if he was allowed a second bottle of wine after having a first one. I said "seeing as it's you sir I think you may" with a smile and offered him a choice. We had a nice chat and at the end of the flight gave me a hug and said '"thank you so much, you were wonderful." Awwwww.

Another gentleman on the same flight said how much he liked flying with the airline compared to another country's airline...he was very friendly and said how he loved the free drinks and food and the service offered by the charming flight attendants. Said thanks very much for a great flight as he got off and shook my hand.

I was late into Amsterdam a few months ago, missed connection to Cape Town. KLM were overbooked for the next few days, so had to buys flights with BA via LHR. Was a nightmare day, was stressed and exhausted when we got onboard at Heathrow. CC asked us if we were ok, and shortly thereafter brought the drinks cart down and said "help yourselves!". We duly did, slept all the way there, and made sure to thank her on the way out. There's plenty of great crew out there, you just don't hear about them. Noone's interested in good news...

When I go flying I always make the effort give a big smile and a cheery greeting to the cabin crew (and ground staff for that matter). I like to think that seeing a happy face amongst the miserable faces of delays and lost bags brightens their day up just a little bit. Has worked too - got me a free upgrade one Christmas when a delayed longhaul flight threatened my connection in London

yes, there are amazing pax and crew out there! not a day goes by when I can't say I'd met some brilliant people! the majority of pax are absolutely lovely! It's just that the bad ones are more noticeable!

True to a point, bondim, but the crew I best remember worked my outbound flight to Venice a few months ago. "Exceptional" simply doesn't go far enough to describe them all. Best flight ever

I bet this thread won't receive any attention of those people that LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about the job and feel they have to attack people in the "stupid passenger comments" thread!
Some people just love to fight!
I have had some wonderful people on flights!
The one that comes to mind is the couple traveling from DXB to Perth who very timidly asked "Would it be possible to maybe please have an extra glass of orange juice if thats OK? Please?"
I'm like "Absolutely!"
Then the dear little things asked how much it cost!

To which I, the crew who had had a month of non-stop Bombay "Gimme Gimme Gimme- I want I want I want" flights, was only too happy to point out that everything was free!
If I could have gotten away with it i'd have been quite happy to let them wheel the bar off the plane at the end of the flight as a souveneir!
I did offer them everything I could think of for the rest of the flight, most of which they politely refused-
Just goes to show that being polite and not being greedy will probably get you a better trip!

A long time ago a 'friend' of mine arrived back at STN.

He approached the lost luggage desk. Seeing he had no cases with him the lady behind the counter immediately asked him what flight he had come in on etc. My 'friend' replied that he had no missing cases as he was returning from a business day trip. Cue a surprised and then questioning look on the lady's face. My 'friend' added that he just wanted to say thanks for returning his delayed luggage the last time he came through. What followed was nothing he had ever experienced before when thanking people.

The lady said 'What did you just say?'

So my friend repeated his spiel all over again. This time a little more self consciously as a queue had started to form. At the end the lady said 'Can you wait there?' and turned round and went into the rear. She then emerged with two other lady co-workers and said, 'This gentleman has something he would like to say'.

My 'friend's' idea of a quick get in and out was now in pieces and with three pairs of eyes staring at him from the front, and even more pairs from behind, he repeated it, even more self-consciously, for a third time. As he finished all three faces had been transformed. They were lit-up, beaming and smiling from ear to ear. I have never seen that sort of a reaction before or since. oh rats never mind. I then beat an undignified retreat towards Customs.

Thanks to all the Doctors and medical staff travelling as PAX that have helped out so many times on my flights when someone got problems.... Their help is invaluable.

And thanks to all the kids that come visit us on the flight deck before or after the flight. Sometimes looking into their faces makes me remember why I love my work...

Captain here.
We have really great CC, both boys and girls, all Jordanian...and they make great turkish coffee and cappuccino...even bacon and eggs, freshly fried, on occasion.
Waffles, too.

Treat 'em right and receive in kind accordingly.
It's a two way street.

Arriving 40 minutes late into Munich from Johannesburg recently I missed my connecting flight to Paris.
Lufthansa check in said the best they could do was put me on standby for the next flight - reasonable.
Next flight had finished boarding and there was one seat in business class, I had an economy ticket.
"I am sorry sir as we only have one seat in business class I will have to upgrade you - goodnight sir and please fly Lufthansa again"

I was once stuck in Chicago, with United, going London via Newark. Connection was going to be missed due to thunderstorms. Sat on A319 for an hour. CAPTAIN yes, that's right, came to me with Senior FA, and together they left the aircraft 4 times to sort my friend and myself DIRECT flights to London. Delightful staff. I sent United an appreciative letter, and received a lovely reply, which I still have, from 4 years ago. Were we Celebs, Famous film stars, etc. No. Just two very ordinary people, who were treated extraordinarily well by by the staff of a very large Airline.
All this came about because of an overheard remark from me to my friend by a junior Flight Attendant, who conveyed my remark to her senior. Very well done, forever grateful.

As Netjets flighrt crew we are always travelling on a flight at the beginning and end of tour. Its normal for us to be booked in economy if travelling less than 4 time zones or under 6 hours flight time.

We have to travel in uniform so on many occasions ive been upgraded to business class which on a early first day or long last day/tour is just sublime.

Usually as you walk on board they see the uniform and say "hello who do work for" and its usually a case of stand here a minute or take any seat just in front of the divide. But i always walk on with a smile and say hello to the crew and if its not too busy ask them how their days been.

Therefore as greatful crew i would like to say thank you to the following airlines.

BA, BMI, Cityjet. KLM, Iberia, TAP, Alitalia (good luck guys), CSA and though we weren't actually upgraded, we were told that if it wasnt full we'd have been brought forward.....Finnair!.

Aer lingus must also get a mention as even though they no longer have business class i have been given the odd free hot breakfast. Nothing like a bit of stodge to keep your pecker up aye!

There are one or two airlines that never have upgraded me and i look forward to getting it from Air France, Lufthansa Icelandair and Aeroflot.

The only problem is that in the fanny magnet i cant have a drink but thats life.

Thanks again to all those who look after fellow crew.

Yes, I'd really like to say a big chookas to crew who look after other crew positioning or what have you. It's really nice to feel part of a big team, even if we work for different companies. A big thank you to BA crew especially who always make me feel so welcome on board. You guys are top!

I've had so many wonderful, funny, polite and entertaining passengers on board that I couldn't just mention a few. Especially lately for some reason, 99% of passengers are really lovely. It makes me feel really warm and fuzzy inside and I can't do enough for these people, as they make my job the pleasure it should be. A big thank you to the wonderful passengers.

When flying with BA the other week I asked if there were any sandwich meals that didn't have mayonnaise in, no said the first cc girl, "let me see what I can do" said the second girl behind, 2 minutes later a nice china saucer appeared with proper cheeses and crackers, all fresh from the world that is Club, it gave me a grin a cat would've been proud of!

Huge thanks to the BA crew member and his brother going to Singapore (with a partner airline) earlier this year...

I was getting a right bollocking from this rude who had been whining the whole flight because he wanted everything business class were having (he was flying economy) now I had got him a glass of business class wine but no he wanted a whole bottle! Ensue huge rant from this jerk about how BA are so much better, BA do this for him every flight because he is such and such status, it's included, your airline is a partner therefore I should get it...

All around sick to the gills of this guy's complaining. BA crew in exit row seat turns to jerk in the row behind and says politely, "actually sir, I work for BA, and that is certainly NOT an entitlement of your status, please leave the lady alone to do her work as we are all tired of listening to you for the last hour."

So boys, hope you enjoyed the bottle of wine and had a fab time visiting your friends. If you're reading this, you really made my day!!

I have only ever felt compelled to write one letter of commendation in the many flights I have taken.It was a good few years ago,on a KLM flight from AMS to JFK.

On my return I wrote a letter to KLM headquarters,about the cabin crew member,I thought had gone above and beyond the call of duty.I received a nice letter back,stating my comments would be passed on to this person.

Do good comments get passed onto cabin crew,or is this just a stock response letter?.

I have a close friend that is a cabin crew manager,I must admit that I am green with envy,when she tells me the places she's been to.She also tells me some of the not so glamorous aspects of the job too!.

Whenever I fly I always try to engage in conversation with the crew,and have a laugh with them.

I must admit that my 'local' airline,Jet2 have some of the most approachable and friendly crews that I have experienced.

Hi lbalad,

At BA all comments about crew certainly get fed back to the people concerned. You get a nice letter/email from your owning manager and it is recorded on your personal file.

I have to say that my two most recent flights with VS merit good feedback on crews. The first flight was on a 100% occupancy service where the crew in PE gave us absolutely first-class service (especially the one purser), and the flight back was staffed by fairly new crew (as in they hadn't done much long-haul yet).

Their service was brilliant too, and since the cabin was only half-full, allowed us to move seats, which was welcomed by all. I gave the CSM my thanks and she said she'd pass it on and that it would be much appreciated precisely because the girls hadn't been doing it that long.

So you guys and ladies are very much appreciated here. :-)

I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to a few BA crew members - namely those that worked on the Heathrow-Oslo leg on 9th October, dep 1640hrs and the Oslo-Heathrow leg on 14th October, landing at 1315hrs.

We were unbelievably lucky enough to be upgraded both ways and the service, laughs and banter we got was a memory to be treasured. It was more than the icing on the cake of a very special weekend for us.
