It is made VERY clear in the contract that it is a temp contract. It's there in BOLD TYPE, regardless of what anyone else might say. I also know of various other charters who 'dangle the carrot' of an extension or a perm contract. To say only Monarch do this is quite ridiculous.

Well done for getting a PERMANENT contract! I am pleased you got one as you are always posting positive and useful information on the various cabin crew websites... You deserve it, as you take the time to respond to various posts and always come across as freindly etc.

Thankyou john1111

John are you CC ?

contracts

Giving somebody false hope and not following through, is harsh. Many charter companies dangle the carrot and this is wrong. I am not only accusing Monarch of bad form in this respect.

Most charter airlines however, don’t go around promising people they can re-locate from one base to another if there are not contracts available at the base they began their temporary contract with. Monarch wrote a CCO asking crew to write to them with their preferred base.

Also when charter airlines advertise for crew, many advertise for temp contracts and when you are invited to go for the interview it is made clear (in the letter that is send to invite you for the interview and during the interview), that this is a temp contract. These air-lines say they are offering a ‘seasonal’ contract.

Also other airlines are realistic with the job opportunities available. They are clear that the contract is temporary and that there is the possibility that there will be re-entry in the future. Monarch are (ask the new entries this year, and the ones last year, or look at posts made by them on other sites) telling new crew that there is a strong possibility of being made permanent at the end of their temp contract.

Most of the crew I spoke to have said that they had other opportunities to go to other airlines, but the reason they chose Monarch was because they were told there would be a huge certainly of a permanent contract.

But ‘Silly-Moo’, I fully appreciate that it may be different at other basis, and I don’t know where you are based. I am talking about the ‘temp’ crew I have spoken to who are at certain Monarch bases, the situation with regards to contracts may have been made clearer to crew where you are based.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply.

John111, I think you are being a little unfair about Monarch.

We have spoken extensively on another website for cabin crew. There I told you that I was a temp at Manchester and that nobody there was ever promised permanent contracts at the end of the summer season. From Twinklinggem's comments, that she was advised from the beginning that it was a temporary contract, it appears evident that people interviewed at Luton are told the same thing.

Those things added to the fact that it is stated clearly in the contract that it is a temporary contract clearly show that Monarch do not systematically promise permanent positions at the end of the summer season, which is the sentiment I feel you are spreading. I also get the impression that your arguments are based on hearsay. I would be interested to know where these comments in forums from other people are and suggest you are a little bit more discerning about what comments to take with a pinch of salt.

Certainly here in Manchester, and I know also in Birmingham, it is widely known that a permanent contract is never guaranteed and the prospect of having to find work to fill in the gap is always a possibility.

Please don't paint a bad impression of Monarch for those people visiting these forums who are interested in applying for positions with them. I have never had a company be more clear with me about my position before. Explaining that permanent contracts may well not be available at the end of a temporary is sufficient to clarify a point.

And just to point out to those people who may be visiting this forum for information on the prospects of getting a permanent contract with a company, it is my understanding that in the past Monarch have been much more generous about offering permanent positions than other charter airlines where it can sometimes take up to 5 years to made permanent.

It's not just me. This is the first time you have posted on here. A few day's ago lots of posts were removed from this link (thread) see above.

Plenty of people are upset about the whole contract thing. As far as I am aware people at BHX were not happy and they felt mis-lead (at other basis too). I think it's only fair to let people know what they are getting into with Monarch. It's up to them to make the choice of taking a contract with them.

Monarch do not offer a seasonal contract (that's what most of the other charter companies offer). Monarch offer a fixed term contract.

However I appreciate you work at Manchester, Monarch works from lot's of airports, but there were posts on this site before anyway. Its a shame many have been removed and you didn't get the chance to see them.

Also there are other threads on this site with information on, have you seen them?

Guys

If you join an airline, any airline, on a temporary seasonal contract, then the contract is precisely as described: People may hint at other things, or even directly assert them, but the fact is that you are on a temporary seasonal or fixed-term contract. If you choose to believe otherwise, and/or make any kind of plans based on hearsay then you have only yourself to blame. There can be no blame attached to any company for simply enforcing the terms of a contract.

The fact is that the market changes from week to week; That is the nature of the industry. What may have looked possible in May can be impossible by October. Experienced and intelligent Crew should know better than to make any kind of comment about the possibility of permanency for others: Those on temporary seasonal contracts need to exercise the same judgement.

It is unfair to single out Monarch for special criticism simply because some temporary seasonal or fixed term contract crew have not got their way and are now throwing their toys out of the cot.

Move on please...

Nobody at BHX was told (by trainers or anyone) they would get a permanent contract i know i was there, as at the interview i was told it was a six month contract,in which having a degree i would have gone back to what i was trained to do .......

I think as been said we need to stop this negative information about Monarch.

Monarch is a great airline to work for i for one feel proud to wear the Monarch uniform

If you are joining us this year good luck you will love it...even the 3am starts look forward to meeting you all at BHX

Enough...

Folks,

This forum is intended for working Cabin Crew: Some time ago it was nearly over run with wannabees, and for that reason the wannabee threads were established to be a source of information for those seeking recruitment. It would seem that the wannabee threads are now being used for a sort of social networking function instead.

You need to be very clear on this - If your post does not contain concrete fact about the recruitment then it has no business on PPRuNe - anywhere: This means that any of the following stuff is not to be posted...

Facebooks, blogs, I'm so happy for you, woohoo I got it, wish me luck, send me a PM, msn me, will you be at the interview, follow your dreams etc. etc. All of this should be done by PM on PPRuNe (if you must - we'd rather that you didn't use our server space for it) or by Text Message - in fact do it anyway that you want - BUT DON'T POST IT ON A THREAD.

Pre-Course study booklet.

This is probably aimed at somebody who is already working for Monarch ie twinklegem, but i'm wondering about the pre-corse study pack that got with our contract and stuff.
Are we expected to learn anything before the course from this or is it just to give us an idea of what to expect?

cheers

Pre course study book

Hi A340,

Firstly CONGRATULATIONS on getting your course date. Hopefully you've not been waiting like some for too long.

I SUGGEST that you familiarse yourself with the booklet. You don't need to know every detail word for word, but more like an awareness of what is contained in the booklet. I.e The Fleet, Who's who etc..

Another good pointer is to check the Website frequently for company News. New routes, offers etc.

You can never know too much.

ALSO make sure you read through and understand your contract. there seems to be so many rumours flying around about Contracts etc... they are all temporary etc...

What Course are you on ? and what base ? ( i'll keep my eyes open to say hi )

If you need any advice, give me a shout.

Monarch Strict ?

Hi Flyboi...

When you get into your flying career ( I apologise if you are already flying, but if you are then I would expect you to know this already ) each airline operates different policies for rank, seniority and promotion of ranks.

Some airlines for Example BA - Takes upto 15 years to get to Purser let alone CSD - Cabin service Director. Where as Airlines such as Jet 2 or Ryan Air you could be a NO 1 - Senior within 6 Months.

I don't think Monarch is strict, but again like BA some of the Pursers and NO 1's have been with the company a long time so they may prefer that people follow suit in Ranks, i'e checking onto hotels etc.. New C/C should check in last. Thats not a bad thing, i think its about respect - Even if the No 1's or Pursers don't seem to be doing much on a flight, they have been with the airline for years. - Think of it as a little bonus for them. In which to some this really is quite an important bit.

Airlines such as Monarch ( after you've been taken on as PERMENANT) and Virgin, Do have a fast track programme in place, where if you are good and do show signs of great leadership, mentoring and dedication to the company then it will be rewarded. Which i think is also a great bonus.

Thomson, Thomas Cook and First choice don't have anything like this. Again it takes years. Opportunities at Monarch are much better.

Monarch Prides themselves on being a good airline -- IN WHICH THEY ARE - 1 of the Best Airlines. Grooming is impeccable and services very high - some may disgree but you can't please every crew member.

Someone on here or through G FM may state that Monarch is terrible and sooo strict, but you really can't take 20 peoples opinions on that. Until you can decide for yourself - NEVER LISTEN TO GALLEY FM.

I hope this gives you a little more insight into seniority and ranks etc..

Any questions please feel free to reply or PM.

Cheers MonarchladMAN

By the time I start training i'll have been waiting 6 months since I was told i was successful! Must say it hasn't dragged too much though.

I'm on the 28th March course for BHX, so the same as quite a few others here on PPrune.

I guess you're already workign at MAN then?

Firstly, Monarch do not promote crew quickly... at present it takes about 6 years to get your No 2 and about 9 years to get to No 1. My understanding is that they are cutting costs and not promoting anyone to Purser. Monarch has one of the slowest promotion systems in aviation.... I’ve never heard of anyone coming from another airline and being promoted quickly, just does not happen, despite what they tell you at the interview. As for going onto long haul right away, at most bases Monarch will not fleet you on the long haul aircraft. As has been stated before, it appears that they are only offering temporary contracts and at the end of it, you will be laid off. The object is to burn temporary crew out during the summer and have them operating short haul (it’s not only Monarch who do this, so I am not just blaming them). You may get lucky and have the odd night thrown in here and there somewhere. And yes I agree with the post about the company being strict, they are. Monarch are a low cost airline now and operate within that model, the problem occurs when there are too many ‘old school’ crew who have trouble adjusting to this. Having said that there are man wonderful people are Monarch.

Interesting. I'd heard promotion was largely dependent on base and operational needs. Nothing was mentioned to me at interview about a quick promotion, simply because I had come from another airline.
