Firstly, Monarch do not promote crew quickly... at present it takes about 6 years to get your No 2 and about 9 years to get to No 1. My understanding is that they are cutting costs and not promoting anyone to Purser. Monarch has one of the slowest promotion systems in aviation.... I’ve never heard of anyone coming from another airline and being promoted quickly, just does not happen, despite what they tell you at the interview. As for going onto long haul right away, at most bases Monarch will not fleet you on the long haul aircraft. As has been stated before, it appears that they are only offering temporary contracts and at the end of it, you will be laid off. The object is to burn temporary crew out during the summer and have them operating short haul (it’s not only Monarch who do this, so I am not just blaming them). You may get lucky and have the odd night thrown in here and there somewhere. And yes I agree with the post about the company being strict, they are. Monarch are a low cost airline now and operate within that model, the problem occurs when there are too many ‘old school’ crew who have trouble adjusting to this. Having said that there are man wonderful people are Monarch.
