Thumbs down

Well I recieved the email yesterday saying I didnt get in

My advice out of all of this is dont count your chickens before they hatch.

I heard after 3 weeks, I sort of thought I may not get in but after the 2 week point I started to really get my hopes up.
I had heard from 2 girls in my group who got the rejection email after 8 days....so I really thought I had it after not hearing for what felt like so long.

I will re-apply but I cant do it for another whole year....sooo long.

::heavy heart::

Much love & luck to everyone....

Ohh and I have a question I was hoping someone could answer for me.

My email said I have to wait for 1 year before re-applying but the Emirates website says 6 months???

I dont get it, I would really like to re-apply after 6 months but dont want to peeve anyone at Emirates off by not following their rules.

I guess I will do what it says on the email but Ughh 6 months would be ALOT easier for me to deal with than a whole year!!!

I was also wanting to contact them to find out exactly what constitutes as "High School Equivalent"??
Can I just sit some sort of equivalency test? or do I have to actually complete a course over a period of time (say 6 months )

I would really like to email Emirates to find this out for sure before committing to a course that isn't suitable to get me this job.

Can anyone PM me a contact email for them or is it on the site and I just cant see it?? (or do they just not want anyone who didnt succeed to contact them?)

Sorry for your result. Hope you have better luck next time se we can meet in Dubai.
The waiting period to re-apply is actually 6 months. BUT if you make it through to the Final Interview and fail on that part, then you MUST wait a whole year. Those are the rules, which you may find on the website.
Sorry to say that but I really wish you the best.
I always think like this ever since my Open Day: If it is meant to be, IT WILL BE.
Otherwise, don`t worry and Keep Discovering..

Thanks EK-CCMember x

Flying Explorer - I didnt complete high school, I left after year 11 but after 10 years as a Make up artist have (recently) gone on to recieve my Certificate IV in Finance/Mortgage Broking

I assumed that would be enough as it is not an easy qualification to achieve but as soon as I walked into the interview they said "didnt you read the pre-requisit??"
I said I had selected "completed yr 11" with further study.
She said I had to have completed year 12 but then continued on with my interview???
I assumed seeing as she didnt just walk me out immediately that I had a chance.

I understand that they need to have a basic requirement and having completed High School is it.
But I left as I was offered a great opportunity to work as a freelance Make Up Artist, which I loved for 10 years and up until now, never regretted that decision to pursue that dream.

So maybe it was something else all together.

The problem is that I really want this job, I wish I could ask them if my lack of a high school diploma was the reason I didnt get it.

Tash

emirates monkeys

HI,
Emirates really look for what ever they fell like it on the day. I was with them for 4 years and let me tell you it is hard work because of the passenger profile. You dont have to fit into any catorgory. ANYONE can do what they do! Trust me there are some monkeys working there!!

Hi Tasha_28

I am so sorry to hear you didn't get a positive answer, I am sure you would have been a great Flight Attendant for EK: open-minded, friendly and helpful!
Don't lose faith, and try to think that the next year can be an opportunity to do new things, to prepare yourself better, and maybe get a degree that can satisfy them.
Also try other airlines companies, like Ethiad...

I see those next 6 months i have to wait before re-applying as an opportunity to improve my foreign languages skill, have another work experience abroad, read more about EK (i still follow the discussions on this board e.g)... and also to think about other options than EK for my career...

I understand it may have been very tough to read that email after building up projects and being excited. EK recruitment process can be very tough.

i send you some cheers up and good luck for everything!

Red face personal information after waiting for a year

hello all, thanks for all comments you guys wrote in, they really help.

I have just one question. actually I'm the one who didnt pass the final interview in japan last year and now have to wait for a year to re-apply.
I just read a comment in other site, one says she was also a finalist but she did horrible in the final interview(just like me ww). she waited a year and re-applied but didnt even pass the FIRST STAGE!!!

now I really worried that same situation happen to me!
do emirates recruiments leave personal information (like I did too bad in the final interview) even after a year?
I really hope not!!

Tasha_28 - Finishing High School

Hi Tasha.

How annoying about your experience! I don't know whether Emirates would accept the following idea, but maybe you could check it out if you really want to work for them...

Have you heard of the SATs? They're standardised tests that are used for college admissions in the US. It isn't so much a certificate of education; it's moreso a test that produces a result that compares you to others who have taken that test. I know a few unis in NSW accept this test as an alternative to a Higher School Certificate.

As i said, it isn't the same as completing the final year of high school. So i don't know whether it will count. However, it will give you a mark/grade/result that will allow you to show that you have a certain standard of knowledge and understanding in relation to subjects that are studied at high school. And it would save you going to an extreme like completing your final year of high school.

Hey all...i posted this question before but it went un-answered...
this is extremely important... as my partner is wanting to leave...and need's to get some info from those who have done it.

Does any one have any information on if you can leave Emirates during your intial training of 5 weeks? So for example if you get there and you start your training and realise that it's not for you...how do you leave and what is the process...What do you have to pay back etc? can it be done??? and how??? Has anyone done it??? any information would be greatly appreciated....

cheers,
Jetflite.

Angel Soaring in 10 days!

hello everybody,

just want to share my good news in the hopes that it will enlighten the new applicants to the process. After a month or so of waiting for an email stating that my meds were approved (or not), i finally made the call (one of many) to HR. They said 2 of my documents were missing although I had sent them, I resent them, and then on sunday, they emailed me with the subject "RESIGNATION", In other words i had to hand in my resignation and send them the confirmation by fax as soon as possible. Did that this morning.

sooooooooo, to cut a long story short, im leaving in ten days and you know what? im happy-sad-happy.

I love this forum, thanks to whoever started it in the first place, and most of all to md13 who gave me some real good advice (persistence eh? hehehhehe , ill definately see u there, have a wonderful flight!)... Ill keep everyone posted with what happened and will be sure to post my dates (final interview, medicals needed email, meds approved...etc...) so others can have an idea of how long the process took!

Good luck to all,
AfroArabianDoll,

Too fat to be recruited?

Hi there,
I am a new member here.I am very very interested in working for either Emirates or Etihad as a cabin crew and I am gonna walk in for their open day soon.
The thing is the image of cabin crew in my mind is "tall and slim".OK,i have no problem with height because I am 165 cm,but when it comes to the weight or body size,i am really not confident.I am wearing size 12-14(australian size)You do guys thinkg it is gonna be a problem?Do I need to be slim to get selected?Anyone please help. This really does keep worrying me.Am I too fat to be recruited?

Re; Too fat to be recruited??

To Smileywitch,

hi,
technically speaking, what you need to do is figure out your Body Mass Index, if you are on the obese side, they you know you shouldnt apply because truth be told, they want people whose height is proporttionate to their weight. they do state a bmi range that you have to fall into (after you get selected and are sent the medical forms).

I believe its something like this, (will check and let you know for sure):

BMI Categories:
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
now, personally speaking, you are a woman, a woman should never call herself fat, there is no such thing, there is only "curvier than all those skinny ones in the mags". Im not what you would call a skinny person, neither am I lean, i like to think of myself as having all the right curves in all the right places. and i got through.

find out your weight, heres a site that can help you figure out your BMI: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmi-m.htm

You have to be self confident if you want to make it through.
Lots of luck!

Hi, i think i'm gonna attend the Emirates open day on saturday in Brussels, but can i just walk in there ? Or do i need to apply before ?

And another question: what should i wear ? (I'm male) , normally at interviews I'm always wearing a business shirt (but no tie) and a semi-casual dark jeans.

How am I gonna attend?

Hi there, I'm new to this forum...I really want to work for EK...and I want to submit an online application for Emirates cabin crew but the problem is i'm located in the middle of nowhere! (Hawaii, USA)...Even if i'm qualified, I'm afraid the Emirates HR won't be entertaining me because I'm too far from any of the neighboring countries that they do have their Accessment Day. Does EK disregard applicants from regions they don't recruit? What;s the best step to take? I'd appreciate any advice...Thank you

Hi petiteGurl,

I think EK accept application from all over the world, however you may need to fly to the city where the assessment day is located at your own cost. If i were you , just have a go anyway, and see what will happen next.
good luck!
