That's great advice Wingletts [and a cute name - hehehe!]

Stf - How's Gloria and Wannabe going? Did that girl come back to training?
Regarding your training, do you get accomodation or do you drive there [wherever there is] each day?

Sorry about all the questions, I'm a little nosey about the whole process!

Gloria is an international woman (or man) of mystery!

Hi guys!

Me again. Training school is still there. We are one class member short - as she left, never to be seen again. She didn't even say goodbye .

Anyway, to answer your question Sylphie, training is around the corner from Melbourne Airport, so they provide us with parking for both training and actually working there... so it is quite good. As far as accomodation goes I live 10 minutes away from the airport, so I just drive there. There are a couple of people that have moved from interstate to train and work here. Virgin Blue doesn't pay for that accomodation. They just pay for 3 flights. The people that came from interstate used those 3 flights for Coming to Melbourne for the Uniform fitting, Going home again, and finally coming over again to relocate. I hope that has given you the information you need.

Diary time.

Virgin Blue Training. Week 3. Day 2, Tuesday August 15, 2006

Oh my God how does time fly when you are busy studying for one exam after another!!! We are halfway through training school. Tomorrow our uniforms. Woo Hoo. Uniform time! I went out and spent all this money on stockings. Well, I guess wearing skirt, I will be needing as many pairs of stockings as I can get my hands on. I am shocking with stockings, especially now that I have acrylic nails!! -- They are like claws!

Today we had our slide jump. That was fun and scary all at the same time. I only jumped down once, because I am not that much of a thrill seeker - but I still enjoyed the one time that I did. I must admit, though, I got off the slide in a fluid movement and landed... on my feet - I did a Nadia Commenici pose as I got off! Some people had to do it again as their technique wasn't the best - or they put their hands out to their sides and nearly toppled off the slide... Then after the slide jump we sat in the actual cabin trainer and learnt cabin preparation duties and some emergency exit drills. It was ok - fun and better than sitting in a classroom.

After lunch we went back into the classroom and finished off the chapter called Emergency Procedures. There is a lot to know for this chapter word for word - but it will be ok. The huge exam is in a week's time. How scary is that!!! Anyway, tomorrow is our mid - training review. Already! I guess that is when they will let you know how you are going in training and give you some tips with grooming etc... etc.. etc..

Also tomorrow night is our practical assessment where we have to show them that we know how to operate a few pieces of equipment. I hope it goes alright. We get 3 attempts to get it right.

Anyway, the class seems to be ok - or getting ok now. No bitchiness in the class, as everyone seems to be getting along a bit better. Everyone is even bringing in bowls of lollies - and I mean big bowls filled up to the rim full of lollies. And the bowl gets passed around the class. No one is going to fit into their uniforms tomorrow on account of these lollies!!! Me included

Anyway, will keep you posted on how tomorrow goes, along with the big review. Should be interesting.

Until then, a thought for today:
You only fail, when you stop trying.

...... /._.\

Dear all,

I enjoy reading STF's diary everyday and I like wingletts' post.
I have a feeling that I am not chosen by Virgin for this application.
There are a few people who get calls and letters, about the training information and body check arrangement.

The rests, including me, who have not been informed, are so nervous. One of us called Virgin and got this reply, "All letters for the first group of successful candidates have been sent. And they will send letters to the rest of us by this Friday."

I have expected the worst for Virgin is a high standard airline.

STF, ah... Neville is not chosen this time.

Iulia, I am glad indeed, events forced my hands. I have to be really hard working NOW for my languages test coming.

A little promise for myself: I will have 2 more languages recognition by the end of 2006.

STF, that sounds MAD!!! Wooo hooo! Down the slide But it'd be weird, coz you gotta do it in nice clothing, you guys aren't wearing like trackies to training.. blah!

My parents arrived back from their holiday in Fiji, and I told them about my RMIT open day... their eyes popped out of their heads when they heard the cost of my degree and books! But I'll definately go uni, I'm the only one in the family that has ever wanted to continue my education after yr 12.

Dreaming_for_VS, don't you worry, it will all come together, eventually! It did for STF after so many years of working a 9-to-5 job, so don't you worry!

I'm seriously contemplating going to Europe this November/December and hopefully applying for Romanian citizenship... and perhaps continuing the degree oversea's..? Gosh, so many options, but they all $$$$ a lot!

Take care peeps, and keep up the great 'diary' entries STF, they're really popular!!

And wingletts, your post was real inspirational, and an insight that being a FA is not always as glamorous as its made out to be

Well it was 14 days yesterday that they would tell me or give me an update on my application...I heard nothing adn am getting so anxious with this waiting game. They said I passed the VRD yet my references have still not been called. That seems a bit suspect to me and not a positive thing at all I wish I knew either way so i can get on with other things instead of living day to day in limbo land.

Will keep you all posted.

Seek to fly - I am so jealous of you right now

The Pay

I was just reading another thread and they were discussing pay. I really want to get into VB and all but the pay seems very low. They were saying around 40,000 for international so I can only imagine what domestic gets. Please correct me if I'm wrong by saying that we would be getting low 30's for domestic.....I sound like a whinger, but you would think the salary would be a little higher than that wouldn't you say

I don't know where you got those figures for domestic from but you're a fair way off.

Including allowances, there would be very few CC earning under $50-55K and very few CS's earning under $60-65K.

Goto http://www.wagenet.gov.au and type in "Virgin Blue" to look at the EBA.

That EBA is currently under neg however so there may be some slight differences by the time you were employed.

Oh really - wow then I am way off the mark. Sorry wasn't being rude I just thought I would see what others thought as it seemed quite low to me, but from what you have said, I am pleased with that. People must come onto these forums and tell lies. Thanks overhere

13 Virgin Blue Training days left. EEK!

Hey guys!

Yes, me again, with another exciting update for you. I have just worked out that there are 13 full days of training left for Virgin Blue. I am still in shock, and I don't think it will hit me until I am on the plane doing a safety demonstration!!!

I can't belive that my HUGE final exam is on Tuesday! One more massive exam to go, and then I think there is one more on the very last day, but I think that has more to do with the service and how to operate the equipment in the galley etc...

Anyway, I should go onto today's entry...

Virgin Blue Training - Week 3. Day 3. Wednesday August 16, 2006

Today was another fun day. We went to the cabin simulator again this morning, but this time ... dressed in our uniforms. We all trooped into Qantas (Virgin Blue use the Qantas Cabin Crew Training facilities) wearing
Virgin Blue uniforms - for the very first time! It was hilarious!!! We were all standing around on our break (which happened to be around lunch time cos we didn't start until 10.30 this morning...) and all the Qantas people were just gawking at all of us. Some of these people have just started training with Qantas for MAM casuals - so you can imagine their surprise and I guess horror when they saw us. I think it is the bright red coat that does it!!

Anyway, today we started practicing our emergency evacuations. It was fun and we did a lot of yelling and screaming today. I wouldn't be surprised if I have no voice by the end of tomorrow - because we are doing more of the same tomorrow. I must say that today, for the first time, I think our group bonded heaps because everyone was telling each other how good they all looked in their uniform, and, they were clapping when everyone did their individual evacuation - it was sort of nice to see everyone getting along a bit better than they have been.

This afternoon we did a bit of theory but it was fun - and NOT out of the book. We also had our halfway appraisals which meant that we had a meeting with 2 of the cabin crew developmental managers and one of the base managers - (One of the Emergency Procedure Trainers). Mine went ok. I haven't lost any points, but so far in training I am sitting on 24 points, which is good considering that I started on 15 points. I didn't feel too bad and actually it inspired me to keep up all my hard work. We get our rosters next Thursday - how exciting!!! At least I will be able to know what I am doing in September and maybe, just maybe I won't have to work on my birthday!! (September 28)
Also, today, we had a practical assessment to see if we could use the pieces of safety equipment that we have learnt to death about - but unfortunately, with only 4 people left, they ran out of time, so I missed out on my turn - We get 3 attempts for each piece of equipment to pass. You must demonstrate the correct procedure and use by the 3rd attempt.
I am not too stressed out about it. It should all be good. I believe mine will be in the morning.

Anyway, our pool day is on Monday next week. That should be ok, but I am dreading getting into that life raft. I am hopeless at that. It will be very amusing to watch as an outsider.

Tomorrow we are going to the Qantas facilities again, and we are also learning about their computers at Virgin- how to sign on etc... etc.. etc..

So a good day is expected tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Until then,

STF

PS. Another thought of the day for those who like to read stuff like that... "If you fall down 10 times - get up 11".

Bye

New Virign recruits accomodation available in Essendon!

Hi t

[SIZE="3"][/ Hi to Seek to Fly and any other new VB recruits!
Just to let you konw that I have a room available in a very comfortable townhouse in Essendon (one of the best parts) for rent available now!
It is only 10mins by car to the VB staff carpark and is a fantastic location for working all those shifts - i speak from experience as i am an ex VB Cabin Supervisor! I could not have imagined living any where else whilst working as an f/a!So good to be able to be close to home for those earlies and lates!
It is also 15mins by train to the city and 10mins to Lygon street. Located only mins from the Essendon village shops (that have great shops /cafes) and 10mins to Highpoint.
The unit is very modern with a good sized bedroom with walk in robes ,courtyard garden etc- very pleasant..would suit someone who is from interstate relocating or someone looking to be cloe to work for flying.
I am 33yrs old and now work as a receptionist and work in the CBD ..and I definately would love to have another f/a to share with as I really understand the life of cabin crew and shift work, and to hear all about the industry ..
If you are training at present and are interested or know anyone else who may be interested, feel free to PM me and I can give you a much more detailed desription of the accomodation and a little more about myself!
Seek to Fly would you be so kind as to spread the word at training .school and PM me if you need to.?
The rent is $552pcm + gas electricity +water ...
Hope to hear from all those new crew out there ..good luck with your training ..not long to go now!

9 days since i did my medical (which i know i passed)
and still no word.

STF - 13 DAYS TO GO!! Man you must be getting excited about starting flying, am i correct in saying you are an ex-flighty? (sorry, my memory is SHOCKING today) To be back in the air after a few years must be exciting for you!

followyourdreams- any word hun?

Wingletts, thanks for that initial post, you are so right in what you say.
I'm an F/A, and i know exactly what you mean!
Except about the EBA, cos i have NO idea about them as yet.
Where i live, Unions are illegal! Let alone having EBA's or anything similar.

Hope all here are well.... even those with waiting worries and study stress!

Hostee- no I still haven't heard anything. Tuesday was the two week mark and it is now Friday. AAhhh I guess no news is good news though. I'm sure if I wasn't going to be a further candidate they would have already contacted me and told me thanks but no thanks. It is killing me but I am trying to stay as positive as possible.

My phone rang yesterday afternoon and it was a private number but I was on the phone with a client and couldn't answer it. They left no message and never rang back. I know no one with a private number so it was annoying not being able to get to it, but I guess if it was VB they would have called back

CONGRATULATIONS HOSTEE!!!! YAY for you. I am soooo envious of you right now.

I still haven't heard anything further. No reference checks no medical. I am very confused. I also said that I need to give four weeks notice to my employer whoch means that I won't be going to Sept 18 training school. Does anyone know if there will be anymore going through this year?? They said I got through the the VRD but don't understand why nothing else has happened as yet. Maybe they changed their minds.

Anyway congratulations to you girl

Hip Hip Hooray!!!

As I said in my Private messages to you Hostee, Congratulations GIRL!!! Group 89 - wow. Thats fantastic. I am in group 86. I only have a couple of weeks left after tomorrow (Saturday) - My huge exam is on Tuesday - and I am not really looking forward to that. Actually thats why I didn't write an entry yesterday (Thursday 17th). Sorry to those people that actually read my silly diary entries - I promise to keep you all in the loop again after the exam.

By the way followyourdreams - don't panic. There should be another training school in October or November this year. At the moment, they are a bit understaffed as it is - so I am sure that they will need all the new recruits they can get.

Oh while I am here, a condensed version of what happened yesterday and today at training

Virgin Blue Training. Week 3 Days 4 and 5. August 17 and 18, 200

Thursday August 17, 2006
Ok, people are starting to crack under the pressure of all the information we are supposed to remember for our exams on Tuesday. At least 2 people said today that they were really thinking of quitting - as they were so super stressed. One girl fell apart totally on the cabin trainer at the Qantas training center and I don't blame her. I also feel the same way. I am so tired all the time now and I am averaging about 5 hours of sleep a night due to all the stress

This afternoon we learnt about how the bidding system works, how much annual leave we can get and how we go about it. I discovered our rosters for the first week of September are already up. I even know who my buddy trainer is going to be! YAY!!! I saw a picture of this person and everything.

Tomorrow we have some real riveting stuff! Aviation Medicine or Aviation First Aid. I am sooooooo over it at the moment. I just need time to study for Tuesday. We have to yell commands and do the actions like open the doors and overwing exits etc... OMG . It will be a real miracle if I pass this exam.

Friday August 18, 2006
Aviation medicine was so so. I nearly fell asleep because I am sooo exhausted by everything. I really can't wait to start working because I know there won't be this much study plus my working day. I am sooooo tired all the time now. We got told today that we are going to be having another exam tomorrow for Aviation First Aid - great. Thats all I need at this stage, another exam!!! I can't take it any more!!!

Tomorrow we are doing more aviation medicine stuff and then we are going to be doing the exam around lunch time. God help me.

Will keep you posted as to how I go with tomorrows exam!

Take Care,

STF

PS - my thought for today. You don't think much of sleep until you don't get any!

Ok Ok before you all start screaming at me, I am about to start whinging again. Sorry guys It's just that I keep telling my family, friends all about this and I know they are sick of hearing it all the time, so this is the only place left to vent while I am waiting(my internet buddies)

Anyway, I was reading the VB post on cabincrew.com and most of the people who had their VRD's got reference checks and even medicals within two weeks of their VRD. I got a letter saying it is still being processed and that you will hear from us (VB) again in two weeks. It has now nearly been three weeks and nothing!!! I keep asking my references if they have heard anything and the answer is NO. Does anyone know why it takes so long to process?? I guess though if I wasn't still a candidate they would have already told me so. Right?? I would have thought that they would have rung my references to get that part out of the way.

Anyway, I love reading all your post seektofly, but you sure are making me nervous (even though great to tell us all what to expect). I can't believe how much info there is to take in and then relay in an exam. Are the exam questions multiple choice or question and then written answer? or a bit of both? Do you love being dressed up in your uniform?? You will have to continue with your posts even when your up in the air and flying.

I looked on 'whereis' which is on the whitepages website. You can type in where you live and the location you ned to get to, and it tells you how to get there and the distance. I discovered it is 50kms from my house to Tullamarine. OMFG!!! Thats a heck of a distance to travel to work each day. I live in a bayside suburb so would be stuck in traffic too!! That would mean 1 hour + travel to work time (one way). Aahh I may need to think about moving closer if I was to work for VB. My mum grew up in Essendon and that is such a lovely suburb but my family and friends are in bayside so that would make it quite hard to move to the other side of town away from everyone I love.... Or maybe Port melbourne, Richmond (I work in Richmond now). Anyway, as usual I am analysing everything too much and I haven't even had a phone call hahahaha... oh and it's 9am Saturday...what a loser...hihihihihihi.

Anyway I am going out for drinks in St Kilda tonight to numb my brain from all this thinking..... I guess if it doesn't work out, I am still working in an industry that I love anyway so what will be will be (well until I post another thread tomorrow)

Ciao for now
