hey scottie380 nice of you to post that reassuring comment

Dreaming for Vs, I rekon if ya don't get in with Virgin this time, try, try again! In the meantime, you can either take the easy way out (for your brain) and work say, in retail for a while til you can reapply with VB, or go down the longer, more strenuous road, and study something, say at a tafe/short courses centre. In Australia, its amazing how far tafe advanced diplomas can get you! I'm going to go to uni, study the librarians degree, and reapply with REX and VB when I'm elligble again, and if I were to *miracle of miracles* get in with one of them, I would then convert my studies to correspondence, and complete the degree that way. I always had in mind to do the degree through correspondence (over the net) if I ever got a FA job, so by me doing the first year of uni fulltime, it would mean many less years of having to do it through correspondence! (approx 6 yrs currently)

Thats all for now

Day 3 and Day 4 combined...

Hey everyone!

Well, after 4 days of training and I am still here. Sorry I haven't posted anything else since Tuesday night, but last night and tonight were late nights but I will post a bit more on the weekend... I will just give you guys a run down on what I have been up to.

Day 3 of Training (4pm to 2am)- although more like 3am

Day 3 was pretty much going through one of the chapters in the handbook (we have been given 2 handbooks to learn from). They are thick heavy folders that thankfully we don't have to carry with us everywhere. In the evening - we put what we learnt into practice and went out to the airport to go and check out a plane that was parked on the tarmac. We played with the PA system and we played a bit in the flight deck too. It was really fun.
Just off the track a bit guys - I have noticed that these point system that they have in place will probably have a negative effect. Everyone wants to end training with the most points, and in fact there is an award that is awarded to the person with the highest points at the wings presentation night. So as you can imagine, everyone wants to be that person!

Anyway, as a group in general we are ok, but with only 20 people in a group everyone should be really close. Maybe because it is only day 3 or maybe its my imagination, but everyone just doesn't seem to be close. Thats just my opinion. Maybe its just too early yet.

The exam is on Friday. OMG!

Day 4 of training (2pm to 9pm) more like 9.30 pm.

Today was a revision day with a grooming component. We started on a new chapter, and then went on to grooming - but what the instructor said was all written in the book, so really there was no need for him to read to us what is in the book. I would have prefered him to come later on in the course after all of our exams. I think more study time would have been
better.

Anyway, the exam is tomorrow. OMG!!! EEK!!! My first 5 points are going to come off tomorrow. I don't want to jinx myself, but I haven't lost any yet, so hopefully I won't lose any this week.
Starting next week, we will lose points for compromised grooming standards. Can you imagine, you are running late and you don't do your hair properly... thats 8 points lost on one day! You wouldn't want that to happen too often!!!

Anyway, I still have a bit of studying to go before I go to sleep, so wish me luck for my exam tomorrow!

Take care all!

STF.

Seek To Fly,

They are thick heavy folders that thankfully we don't have to carry with us everywhere
Lucky you!! We used to have to carry them every day.

I have noticed that these point system that they have in place will probably have a negative effect
It may all seem a little frustrating now but there is a reason behind this. All the areas you can lose/gain points you will be assessed on a daily basis when you start flying. If you get into the habit now then it will all be a little less stressful later on. Have you been told about the companies performance monitoring system "Propel"? Every cabin supervisor you fly with has to put in a report on you (favourite part of my job ), following certain guidelines called 'competencies'. You will find that alot of the areas that are covered in this point system relate to the 'Propel' system. --- if you want any more info feel free to message me, but I'm sure it will be covered during your training.

but everyone just doesn't seem to be close.
Don't worry too much about this. I didn't enjoy training too much- the other people drove me mad- I couldn't wait to get away from them. Now I count many of them as friends. Remember it is a high stress time and you probably have a mix of personalities too.

I would have prefered him to come later on in the course after all of our exams. I think more study time would have been
better.
Your trainers are there to train you in all aspects of the job. This includes 'grooming'. If you found the timing of this certain topic a little frustrating let your trainers know. Offer a suggestion- perhaps they could put it on the first day before all the stress starts.

anyway- enjoy the rest of your training

PM me if you need any help

VB training Day 5 - completed

hey guys!

Before I go on to tell you all about my day at training I want to say a couple of things.

HOSTEE: WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO - CONGRATULATIONS GIRL!!!
I KNEW IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME!!!!! YAY YAY YAY!!!

Smile, what I was trying to get at about the points system was that while I agree with what it aims to do (like get everyone to think in that way and be prepared for "real" work days - it has a down side too - it seems that everyone in the class has their own agenda... and don't want to help others because they want to be the best... if you know what I am trying to say. Competition is shocking amongst everyone... As I have said, I have trained for 2 other airlines, this is my third one, and I never felt like this at training school. Perhaps its because Im older (and maybe not as attractive as all the others in my class) - and the girls are all younger than me. It is actually making me feel that I am not good enough to be in this class. It is making me think that no one likes me and that I am the odd one out! Its awful. - Maybe its because I do know quite a bit and they think I am a know it all.... actually I feel a bit like Hermione from Harry Potter books - She seemed to know everything... always with her hand in the air waiting to answer a question! Honestly, I have to learn to pretend I don't know the answer! Its not my fault though that I have lived through 2 airline collapses - both airlines operating the 737. It is one of my favourite aircrafts! But, having said that, some of the procedures are different at Virgin Blue, and I too need to learn.

Anyway, moving right along

Day 5 at Virgin Blue Training
Was a good day. Our first exam went really well for me - and I didn't stuff up any of the questions which was really surprising because I always stuff up multiple choice questions!!! So I picked up 3 points by getting 100%. Yay. I didn't tell anyone my score. I kept it all to myself.

After our exam we did more grooming ... yes... more grooming. It is doing my head in! I know as a fact I will be losing points there. My head moves, I cant keep all 999,999 hairs on my head smoothed down 100% of the time - we live in Melbourne - its windy.... Anyway...

After the grooming we started on Emergency Equipment and yet another group presentation to the rest of the class. I am getting used to it. After all the presentations - we had lunch. McD's for 4 of us. It was ok.

After lunch, the trainers actually showed us the emergency equipment all afternoon plus we read more about it in the manuals... and then that was it. CRM training tomorrow (Crew Resource Management)

That was about it. Hopefully next weeks exams won't be as difficult. I am dreading it. - They said the third exam is the most difficult So I have 2 next week - one on Tuesday and one on Thursday - FUN FUN FUN.

For now, its back to the books, and in about an hours time I will head off to bed - to get some sleep for my early start in the morning.

Good luck Hostee - Im sure Tuesday will be great for you. After the medical they will notify you in a heartbeat. Trust me on this one It happened to me.

All the best to everyone else

I am Neville Longbottom

Hi! STF Hermione... I was Neville Longbottom 3 years ago. I was the youngest, the most forgetful and clumsy. I even did not know how to put on make up. Well... I survived, and my best friend was a male "Hermione".
Training is really tough. But soon you will be getting friends, once everyone gets used to the style.

Day 6 of VB training. Week one complete.

Hey everyone.

A big hello to my special friend in Brisbane, thanks for the PM - it really made my day when I got home from training. I smiled when I read it thinking that there are people out there that don't dismiss my feelings.
Neville, it is nice to know that someone knew what on earth I was talking about. By the way, Neville Longbottom would have to be one of my favourite characters - I can SOOOOOOOO relate to him sometimes!

Ok - back to the diary.

Day 6 - at Virgin Blue Training

Today we did a module called CRM. Crew resource Management deals with the way we communicate to each other and the role of effective communication in our everday lives as flight attendants. A Captain and a Cabin Supervisor took this class and it was fun. They made it fun by providing some games, and a scavenger hunt, and we watched some dvd's about air disasters (which were caused by human factors - human error, where bad communication was the problem).

Regarding our group, people are realising what I have realised - that some of the girls out of the 20 in the class are so immature that it isn't funny. There are about 3 or 4 offenders, who laugh when someone asks a question or makes a comment in class (when no one else is laughing or when the comment or question isn't funny) - they look at each other when someone answers a question and just laugh. It is a very clicky little group, and I just think it isn't fair on everyone else.

Moving right along... Monday will no doubt be a revision day for our exam on Tuesday. I have already started studying for Tuesday - but I guess tomorrow will be dedicated study day. Tomorrow night I may go and spend some study time with a couple of the girls at training so that we can be study buddies - I think studying over some pizza will be a good study session!

Anyway, it is Saturday night and Im off to dinner. Have a good Sunday everyone and think about me with my nose in my manual

Take care y'all,

STF

Cabbage Patch Dolls would be better - cuter!

Hi Everyone

Sonique, these Cabbage Patch Dolls as you so called them would be in their very early 20's. About 10 years younger than me. Cabbage patch Dolls are cuter, and they don't make fun of other people.

Adam, Thanks for the nice PM. I appreciated it, and I sincerely hope I haven't gone on too much about training school drama's - I just wanted to let all the people following the thread what to expect in training school.
You too need to check your PM's.

And where the hell has Iulia gone???? Girl we miss you on this thread. Hope you will come back soon.

Hostee, good luck for Tuesday - you will do great.

Everyone else, Have a nice Sunday - you will get another training update Tomorrow - Monday Day 7 of training. 22 Training days left to go - OMG

Take care everyone!

I'm here, I'm here!!!

I'm here!!
Haven't gone anywhere Just been real busy finishing off deliveries for the Census (yes, I'm one of those people, going from door to door, giving out the papers) gosh, the number of dogs I've had jump on top off me!!! I keep telling myself, I can sue if anything goes wrong (eg, they bite my lef off!!) but oh, the pain I'd be in!!!
I've been out every night this last week and a half... tonight is thankfully the last night I have to deliver, but then next week, I'll have to do the collection doh!

Moving on....

STF, I just wanna say what a fab person I think you are!! You're so dedicated to pprune, telling us about each and every day of your training... you go girl! Kick butt, and get those points!!

And about those horrible teeny boppers, shame on them, but I know exactly how you feel. In class as school (and I think there are some of you who can relate to this) there are always the bleach-blonde girls who giggle whenever someone answers a question (and gets it right!) etc. It sometimes makes me not want to answer... but at the end of the year, when they cry their 'caked-in-make-up' eyes for the crap ENTER scores they get, I'll be content with the way I behaved and studied throughout the year You should feel that way too STF, coz these losers seem to be headed on the same road as the 'caked-in-make-up' girls I unfortunately have to pass in the corridors everyday at school.

STF, do they tell you that your hair can't be "whispy, or have hairs out of place??" If so that is impossible for some people. I saw a FA on a DJ flight whos hair was terrible. why didn't her supervisor tell her to fix it, or write a report on her. Im worried now!

Hair

Talking about hair, does VB have any restriction of hair pins?
My friend works for Singapore Airline(SQ), there should not be more than 3 hairpins...
besides, their eyeshadow, cheek... colour and brand of make-up, were chosen by company grooming consultant and never ever could the crews change on their own wish. The grooming checks carried out in a tough way.

it sounds abhorrent for me. But, SQ's crews grooming is really excellent.

STF, when will you go for "ditching"? As a swimming starter, I desperately want to know how would it be.
Erm... those not very cute cabbage patch dolls, are here and there. Oh! And I did fly with them...and the flight was slightly irritating , cos it's all about teamwork. Hopefully you would get a way to be along with them, in case you're rostered together.

Iulia, dogs remember you and they will deliver the papers to you, running happily... hopefully papers aren't too wet, after being in their mouth. I go around everywhere in Hong Kong, too, I tutor 16 summer classes a week, students range from 3 to 12... they make me more and more patient and tactful, more capable of being a crew again.

WEEK 2 - Descension into HELL

Hi guys

I have made it to week 2 of training. Tomorrow is our second exam. This one is giving us a taste of whats to come. For this exam, we need to know 2 chapters out of the manual - and there is soooo much information! I am even worried about it. Apparently exam #3 and #4 are the most difficult ones. Exam #3 is happening this THURSDAY .

About the hair - they have told us that they don't want to see Wispy bits hanging out so we need to bring a can of hairspray to training with us so that we can spray those bits down when they come out and we also need to touch up our make up at morning tea, after lunch and afternoon tea, so that we can look immaculate. No specific information about the number of hairpins - but I know a couple of girls that wear at least 4.

Virgin Blue Training - Week 2, Day 1.
Today we were told to meet at the baggage caroussel at the airport in the Virgin Blue terminal. We got split up into 2 groups and we went on a tour of the airport. We saw things like the crew room, and the gate lounges, we went down onto the tarmac and had a look at where the aircraft come to a stop infront of the gate lounge. We even were given our uniforms, and had our photo taken for the security card . I must admit, that today was the first day that I started getting really excited ... really really excited - "can't wait" kind of excited.

Then after the tour of the airport we got in our cars and went back to the training school. We did a bit of a revision for our exam tomorrow, and then we started on yet another chapter for Thursday's exam. It never ends!!! We had an hour for lunch and after lunch we kept going with material relating to Thursday's exam (basically Standard Operating Procedures - and what happens on a STANDARD day) - As you can imagine there is a lot of information here, it is all about knowing who does what and at what time - from the moment you sign on until the moment you sign off. Believe me ... this is a huge topic. As a matter of fact, after lunch at around 2.30 everyone seemed really quiet and people were falling asleep in their chairs (including myself)! I could feel my eye lids battling to stay open! They gave us a 10 minute break this afternoon as they saw people literally falling asleep ! I had a hot chocolate and a coffee and after that I was fine.

Tomorrow's exam is all about the safety equipment, oxygen bottles, Fire extinguishers etc... It is also a huge exam so I really should get back to studying.

On the *BRATZ* front (as opposed to Cabbage Patch Dolls) - Still the same, but I think some other people are noticing their behaviour more and more. Our class seems to be relaxing but still there is a bit of tension between some people. I wish it wasn't like this.

Anyway, other than that... not much else to report. I must go back to finishing off my study. I was up until 2am this morning studying. I won't let it happen again tonight - but the way I am going... it might be close!

Until tomorrow... take care,

STF

PS: When I got home tonight, I tried on my uniform. It didn't fit me the way it did when I had my fitting... I guess I need to cut down on the lollies and junk food during training - you should see everyone in class! They bring in packets literally everday of lollies, snakes alive, jelly babies, fruit chews... dips and biscuits, chippies, popcorn - it is truly amazing to see these people chow their way through food the way they have been lately. One of the other girls in my class rang me and told me her uniform was a bit snug - and she wouldn't be eating junk food in class anymore - hmmm I will believe that when I see it!!! In the meantime - definitely no more Macca's for me!

Cool Allo, Allo

Re: the hairdo. Does DJ ask that you have a specific hairstyle? I recall seeing plenty of side parted low clasped ponytails on the crew but I don't know for sure if this is it. And also, did anyone have long[erish] hair that was too long in this style?
"they have told us that they don't want to see Wispy bits hanging out so we need to bring a can of hairspray to training with us so that we can spray those bits down when they come out and we also need to touch up our make up at morning tea, after lunch and afternoon tea, so that we can look immaculate."
Haha this just made me draw close attention to my 'wispy bits' I currently have some that are poking out of my hairline near my ears. But I just got done working out.

Wow, it's really focused on appearance. I mean, I know of course it is, but it's kind of crazy, I remember one HR person saying our hair's length and skirts length would be measured at random throughout training if we were successful, we just laughed not really thinking it would be that way. Haha. Naiiive.

STF, what do you wear at training.. do they tell you before you start training that it's smart casual or anything goes or business/professional? Or do you wear the uniform?

It's just like high school I'd imagine with the 'Bratz'.. There's always a few in every group, do you know if they are coping with all the revision and exams? It's a shame they are behaving so rudely towards others. I'd hate to be made to feel like I wasn't allowed to feel comfortable answering or asking a question. Terrible! Imagine what they'd be like as crew toward pax? I think by the time training is done you will all be sick of each other, heheh. Then, those Bratz might actually be pleasant to work with after all, OR your worst nightmare. Who knows. Lol. Don't feel down though STF, you are probably viewed as a very intelligent, experienced gal and they are feeling a little clueless because no doubt this is their first role as cabin crew.
"They bring in packets literally everday of lollies, snakes alive, jelly babies, fruit chews... dips and biscuits, chippies, popcorn - it is truly amazing to see these people chow their way through food the way they have been lately."
Yuuuck. That's make me sick day in day out. How's about some fruit? Mmmm. Fruit doesn't get enough of a rep!
