If you're on hold since May 2017 it's likely you will need to redo the medical if successful; last I checked medicals are valid max 12 months. Security check possibly less

Well my offer of employment email says 3rd of July Sydney base so I’m really hoping it’s confirmed😬 and all I know is that it’s mainline! Which stage are you up to?

I’ve been waiting on final green ticks for almost 1 month now. (I already passed this last year but had to do it again) How long did everyone else have to wait? I’m feeling really disheartened and worried that I’m missing out on a spot because of this.

Hi Tango,
You aren’t the only person still waiting on the final green ticks there’s a few of us. Acic checks seem to be taking a very long time this year and it’s really hard waiting! Hopefully we all hear back soon and get confirmed dates

Hey everyone! I got the golden call on Monday with the start date of July 3, Sydney base. It meant I had to resign from from current job THAT day, as I had to give two weeks notice, omg it was cutting it fine!!! My asic clearance took about 10 days from when I submitted it. Excited to meet you all July 3...so soon!!

Active hold

Hi everyone, new member here looking for some emotional support and simply to share my story to see if anyone is in the same boat. I applied for QCCA Melbourne base back in August 2016 and are still on active hold. Here's my timeline:
  • 9th Sep 2016 - assessment day in MEL
  • 12th Sep 2016 - reference checks done
  • 20th Apr 2017 - security email link received
  • 30th May 2017 - medical check completed
  • 22nd Nov 2017 - phone call to advise active hold has been extended to April next year
  • 15th May 2018 - update phone call to say I may be placed in a ground school possibly July or August this year
  • 23rd May 2018 - complete my second medical check
  • 25th June 2018 - second security email link received.
I am trying so hard to remain positive and upbeat and the emotional stress is taking its toll. I'm trying to think of the long term and that the wait will be worth it. I knew the process would take time but had no idea it could even take this long! I previously worked for Virgin Aus and my recruitment process with them only took 4 months. I'm unable to plan holidays and stressing about attending my brother's overseas wedding in December which I booked flights for back in January. I've had to pay for a second medical which we all know isn't cheap, as well as multiple recurrencies for my CPR certificate. It's hard to hear about other applicants who applied after you but are already out there online. And now the security process has changed and I need my documents sighted and verified in person by a Qantas group head or someone in recruitment and I don't know how I'm going to achieve this. Just feeling very down-hearted right now and doubting myself. Is anyone experiencing this too?? Thanks for listening.

Hey Tango! I'm another waiter on active hold here for MEL base. I also had to re-do my security check as it has been over a year since my first. How did you go about getting your ID documents sighted and verified by a Qantas Group Head or recruitment team member? I emailed them for advice a couple of days ago but yet to receive a reply. Truly stressing out about how long this is all taking.

Hi, skyinthepie I can truly feel your ordeal and I’ve never thought there would be someone out there who waited far longer than everyone here. I’m April 17 applicant, MEL base, medical and security and background checks all completed with all green ticks, waiting for golden call. When I sent email to enquire about docus sighted and signed, they allocated me to one of managers in Talent Acquisition Team based at Mel airport, I booked an appointment and they escorted me to their back office at the airport to sign my docus. Maybe send email again? They should inform you and reply to your email with contact info.

I was also asked this on the phone and it totally threw me. I said er, I don't think so?? Then after we hung up I was worried I had missed a step in the recruitment process or something!

Reading through all the recent posts, I'm glad that there is a Melbourne ground school at the end of July and congrats to everyone who recently got through! Fingers crossed I'm in the next group.

Hi skyinthepie,

I completely know your struggle! I also applied in 2016, and also had to do all my checks twice. I would say call a recruiter (if you have any previous contact), or email them saying you urgently need ID docs sighted, with your times of availability/current base. Then make sure you have your 100 points (inclusive of segment - e.g. A or C... can’t quite remember, but I had to get a payslip as extra ID even though I thought I had 100 points already). I had to do this and I know it is so so hard to wait. It seems like there is a very large number of people going through the same processes. I think it really is down to whose checks go through first (and a lot of the time computer issues delay things as well). I hope this helps you, and good luck!

Hey ibis18, thanks for the reply! Wow, I'm so sorry you've also had a long wait. All good, I heard back yesterday afternoon and I can get my docs sighted at Melbourne Airport. I've got multiple copies of docs, plus extras just in case. I'm feeling a lot more positive now than I did three days ago. =)
