It never existed, it is the

SEPTUMNC 2501.2 HIGH-ALTITUDE BOMBER

http://discaircraft.greyfalcon.us/Ma...dy%20Bixby.htm

and if I win its open house :)

Beamr 8th Apr 2022 17:49

I apologise if I am wrong, but I had the understanding that the rule was that the object had to be real, in essence built and at least tried to get airborne by some brave individual. Have I misunderstood? If so, apologies.

Warmtoast 8th Apr 2022 19:32

NutLoose is right, so open house.

Way too easy: don’t let any Rotorheads see it 🤪

India Four Two 8th Apr 2022 23:08

It sort of looked familiar, and after a little bit of research, I realized I had seen this helicopter before, at Farnborough, but it was naked!

treadigraph 9th Apr 2022 05:36

Its power derives from a lot of hot air...

Shackman 9th Apr 2022 10:07

Far too much hot air comes from its namesake, none of which seems to provide any lift.

My apologies if I'm wrong too.

FWIW way back in 2017 I posted some other fantasy aircraft for the benefit of the late lamented Danny42C.
My post can be seen here on PPRuNe:

A PS.
If you want a good laugh see my Post#16 in the link above that reveals why the Soviet TURD U-14 (дерьмо U-14) Military Transport has a droop snoot!

meleagertoo 9th Apr 2022 12:59

Not providing lift!
I suspect it is guilty of settling with power too. There are far too many there sufferibg from vortex ring, I fear.
Along with hel(i)o-proctosis...

Westland Westminster?

Westland "Westminster" helicopter - development history, photos, technical data

Open house if correct.

treadigraph 9th Apr 2022 19:20

Whilst I was well aware of the Westland Westminster (Raymond Baxter's "Farnborough Commentary" was a Christmas present around 1980!), just looking at it on Wikipedia, I noticed reference to the paper project Westland W.90 of which I'd never heard - what a concept! Drawing on this site...

Videos of the Westminster... what might have been!

Noyade 11th Apr 2022 09:05

And now that I read that text above, looking at the variants - lets go with the HD-32. :)

treadigraph 11th Apr 2022 09:15

One turned up the the International Air Tattoo at Fairford about 30 years ago as I recall.

Asturias56 12th Apr 2022 08:46

Yes Noyade is correct

I thought it would last longer but I guess once seen , never forgotten!

it was the survey version that bugged me - I REALLY am surprised I never came across it professionally

Herod 13th Apr 2022 07:08

Was he trying to catch the pigeon as it was overtaking? :)

Asturias56 13th Apr 2022 07:42

Thats the question - do we have to ID the pigeon or the aircraft?

Just the aircraft thanks. :)
The only info I have on the carrier pigeon - is it's heading to Bletchley Park.

Self loading bear 13th Apr 2022 11:19

It was quite a modern pigeon for its days:
It took off with flaps extended.

Asturias56 13th Apr 2022 15:00

https://www.classicwarbirds.co.uk/ar...on-service.php

is good for ID-ing the pigeons - the aircraft is a little more difficult

Is it a Vickers Virginal mk 1

NutLoose 13th Apr 2022 15:23

I heard they modernised shortly afterwards and made the pigeons out of clay, I have to admit a machine gun is a bit OTT and not very sporting.

No. Not the Virginia.
Here's more, showing the fin shape.

Much closer than Stranraer more like London. It is I believe the tail gun position on the Saro London. Open House if correct.

Open House.

treadigraph 15th Apr 2022 08:05

Well done Mel! I was familiar with the Stranraer because of the lovely example at Hendon but not heard of the London!

I'll stick this one up, never heard of it before!

Asturias56 15th Apr 2022 10:06

Ah! I knew someone who went there and had picture of this so I'll duck out I hadn't realised it had had such a long life!

meleagertoo 15th Apr 2022 11:48

Rather comic, isn't it?
