And to Noyade, yes I was quite enthralled by Batchelor's drawings as a child...'866
I see where he died only recently and was a prolific stamp illustrator... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_B...r_(illustrator) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....2ab1333f4c.jpg |
Clay Lacy perhaps?...
'866 |
It is military.
it is a Lear. It is not a C21. Bob Hoover and Clay Lacy weren't involved. It actually is a Learjet 35A/S, the Finnish AF version with a bit more in-flight entertainment gadgets than on your average C21 or biz jet. Versatility is enhanced with underwing hardpoints. To my knowledge these were the first Learjet 35's delivered for military use in 1982. First C21's were delivered in 1984 I believe. BTW, in 1982 these replaced Il-28's as target tugs and maritime recce duties. And these are still in use, though rather extensively updated in recent years. The picture was taken very recently while the aircraft on the picture was on a mission. Rotate the picture 90 degrees CCW and you'll find it being in a rather level attitude. underneath is a more informative picture of a 35A/S. So, there were many who identified, but as Lear 35 was mentioned by cavuman1, I'll offer the control to your corner. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....0614b8d2b4.jpg |

I believe I am constrained for 24 hours to tell the inimitable Noyade that the nail has been hit on the head with unusual rapidity. Well done! I am new to this thread and am open to suggestions and constructive criticism. 24 hours having elapsed, the comm is yours, Noyade.

Thanks Ed.

Some sort of Bellanca?
David D |
Hi David.
It's French. |
Farman F.280 or F.281. Earlier had 7-cylinder Salmson engine and latter 4 cylinder Renault engine.
I'll take it that its the F.281, based on the amount of exhaust pipes. Original F.280 was F-ALKR, only one made but re-engined later with Renaults becoming F.281. |
Done! :ok:
All yours. |

OH for so long, due in some part I'm sure by it being a bit of a closed-shop. When OH was called on my last submission when I hadn't even responded with confirmation of a correct answer, (post#2656) I decided to give it all a miss.

You might be right that some jumped the gun a bit quickly. I hope it will not keep you from contributing anymore now? |
Despite sharing the same name as Maurice the famous french aviateur's second tipple (in the joke), it didn't have a meteoric career.
|
It is indeed French and 1950s
|
And could perhaps be mistaken for American royalty.

There are quite a few differences to this image - but possibly the Chablis?

My apologies for not replying sooner Bear - left early this morning. Unfortunately nothing immediately to hand, so will have to make the inevitable reply:
OPEN HOUSE |
Here's a type with an interesting history. I had never heard of it until last Friday.

Jean Batten by any chance?
|
I'd not heard of it till this Monday - the engine led me in the right direction! Rather attractive...
|
Is that an Italian pennant on the tail ? Almost good enough to be related to the Miles Family.............
|
Herod,
Nothing to do with Miss Batten. O Ops, Full marks for pennant spotting. I thought it had a lot of Miles characteristics as well. |
Ambrosini S1001 Grifo ?
|
Think the guy that designed it may even have seen a Percival Gull beforehand.......!!..
|
Jean Batten's Gull used to be in the back of Percival's Hangar at Luton in the 50's
|
Ambrosini S1001 Grifo ? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d606c0ee6.jpeg In 1949, a Grifo (Griffin) flew 1800 nm from Senegal to Brazil in 17 hours. The crew took off with 800 litres of fuel on board - normal capacity was 140 litres! I calculate they were about 40% over gross! OUAQUKGF Ops has control. |
