I've been going through the PPRuNe archives from 2012.

You were in an interesting discussion about Borneo weren't you. :)

dook 2nd Sep 2019 21:13

Is it in Sabah ?

dook 2nd Sep 2019 21:19

sycamore,

When I said the other one, I was rescued by a Wessex.

I don't recognise anyone, but my guess is above.

edit: I think it was XJ412 of 110 Sqn in Malaysia.

sycamore 2nd Sep 2019 21:51

dook, that reference is to another aircraft that may still be on that mountain;not mine although I had a t/r come off a week before this....the chap on the left is the twin brother of.......
SLB is nearest...

dook 3rd Sep 2019 08:08

Good morning Mr. Helicopter.

Trying to fathom 333/10621 smoots !

dook, SLB was nearest but from Kuching airfield,333/10621 smoots is bearing/dist. to crash site(use the ruler on GE to convert).
I was detached many times to Lundu. 2 pilots 8 g/crew,1 aircraft plus an Army B-47;Baco is another name for what is now the Pandan beach resort, due N from Lundu,,,,Sematan had an old Jap airfield E-W just inside the coast N of the village.
We operated from the football pitch in the centre of the village, surrounde by schools on 2 sides, the kids loved it; there was also an airstrip built a mile NE,but now gone.

dook 3rd Sep 2019 11:29

Your bearing/distance puts me here:

dook, apologies,,took it from wrong point, 345/13800 smoots....anyway ,this is a day out on the beach, and real low flying...can`t see the spray..!

dook 3rd Sep 2019 12:14

That puts me 3.5nm NW of Kampung, which I already suggested.

Are you still measuring from Kuching ?

If you are then is it the beach at Pasir Panjang

sycamore 3rd Sep 2019 12:31

Close enough dook...actually if you have the `gallery `layer, there are photos of the beach now,Pasir Pandak; Kampung is just Malay for village...
The engine quit over the other side of the estuary at about 1500`,so it was an autorotation to that beach,or get wet...We were going out to HMS Albion to do a troop changeover.
The chap at front left was Dick Langworthy, twin of Bill, renowned Jag pilot.....
Clear to `lock and load`.....
