I've seen something like that before.

I think it's a Zeppelin hangar.

dook 10th Aug 2019 15:51

And quickly found - Tonder, Denmark.

Yes Tonder

Tonder raid.

Interesting raid by RAF from HMS Furious

Single engine Planes with dihedral fairly rectangular/tapered wings.
Might be radial engine: Texans?
Therefore an American training base?

dook 10th Aug 2019 19:58

Not a training base but was American long ago.

Not out tonight ?

Think they`re F4F Wildcats,;dispersals suggest heavy bombers,B-29s;sandy,tropical,Phillipines..?

What year was it taken...?

dook 10th Aug 2019 21:10

There were Wildcats there but no heavy bombers were stationed here but did pass through as far as I can ascertain.

Not Phillipines.

Photograph circa 1942.

Then perhaps Panama Albrooks?
no photo proof found.
OH if correct

dook 11th Aug 2019 07:51

We're not in the Americas at all.

Not a single post or question all day.

I shall reveal the answer at 2100 GMT.

I have been looking at Gilbert islands and Gardner island as these gave been American long ago but claimed by U.K. somewhere 1888.
But no succes in matching airbases.

Dora-9 11th Aug 2019 19:29

Leading with my chin here, but I don't recognize this as an Australian mainland airfield (although the vegetation could be). New Guinea?

dook 11th Aug 2019 19:31

When I said long age I meant WW2.

The airfield was built by the Americans and is now an international airport.

Quote a way from New Guinea.

JENKINS 11th Aug 2019 19:58

As far as Noumea? Bit different when I visited in BN2. Perhaps difficult to imagine a cross runway.

dook 11th Aug 2019 20:02

Yes there.

Take the left seat.

JENKINS 11th Aug 2019 20:17

Thanks. Only just taken up the cause; it was the Wildcat which swung it, many of the other fields operated F6. While at airport motel, noticed a couple of skydivers deep in a French magazine. On cover was a photo of an occurrence on a lift which I had flown earlier in the year.

Please can I call OH, nothing ready at the moment.

JENKINS 11th Aug 2019 20:32

But here is one to close the OH. Place I had wanted to visit and failed.
