I have looked on GE around Cuperly, Vavincourt, Perthes and Colombey areas and cannot find your GE image.

One of the areas you named is nearer than the others :)

The distances away (in miles) are approx - 24, 50, 62 & 80 (this is closest to furthest away - not necessarily the order you listed them in) Although there do seem to be a lot of places with Perthes in the name.

I think we are in Lorraine somewhere and that Columbey is my closest shot and the river is the Meuse.

Columbey of the two churches isn't the closest of your four, but you are correct in that it is the Meuse

Then I am thinking I should look NW-ish of Verdun and that Cuperly is the closest.

You'll be wrong on both points.

If I go to Bing Maps, it's a 52 minute drive away from Belrain.

The only place left on my list is Charny-sur-Meuse, but the Meuse routing doesn't fit and you said not to go NW of Verdun.
