I meant Warsaw Pact layout, but couldn't think of the phrase :)
Narrows it down to former East Germany, and after a bit of searching - Werneuchen |
That's a missile off the rails with Werneuchen.
Over to you again. |
Looks brand new. American built probably, but is it in the USA ?
It is brand new, American build, and NOT in the USA.
Here are a couple of images of it being built. https://zgcrhq.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://nonfyg.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Looks like crushed coral.couple of local wallahs; flying kites in first pic,but looks Indian ocean area...
It isn't coral, but this
https://n16hbq.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none The trees may point you towards the continent. |
Baobab trees. Africa?
North west Africa ?
Boabab trees are found in Africa, Madagascar and NW Australia - nvubu's photos are certainly not taken in Australia.
We are Africa.
Looking at the range of the tree The northern limit of its distribution in Africa is associated with rainfall patterns; only on the Atlantic coast and in the Sudan does its occurrence venture naturally into the Dahel. |
Think this is along the Ferry route from Natal so it could be early Dakar,Bathurst,,Monrovia....
sycamore is close (geographically) with one of these suggestions.
What is now called Senegal ?
Yes in Senegal
No real trace of it now on GE, but if you use the history function it does reappear. |
Kaolack……?
Nope - Kaolack still has an Airport visible.
The mystery one is clearly recognisable in the 1984 -> 2010 overheads. Bit more indistinct after that due to a |
Trying all that I can see.
Linguere ? |
If you find the péage, you will definitely find this airfield.
de Saly….?
Nguith...?
I have found what looks like an old airfield a coupe of miles NE of Rufisque.
It seems it was called Eknes Field.
Not there, the péage is to the north of de Saly.
Have you missed a post or two ?
I have found reference to Eknes Field, as described by Dook, in USAAF writings.
Sorry, I missed a couple of posts when the page changed. Am at work so refresh the page every now and then - sometimes I miss the new page :)
dook has it with Rufisque. I'm not 100% sure regarding it being called Eknes field as the documents I've found state that Eknes Field was a French Airforce base in existence before the US built the runway, whereas the images I have do show a "new" facility - buildings etc.. I've also found references to a "Mallard Field" also in Senegal on the Natal route (link)- but am not sure where this is. I wasn't 100% sure if sycamore's guess with "early Dakar" was technically correct, but thought I'd push for a more accurate name/location. |
Sorry about that - interestingly if you type Senegal Peage into Google Earth/Maps, it takes you straight to the airfield.
Your challenge - Japanese airfield on an island? |
Yes and yes.
Big island/Borneo/PNG, or small island.....?
Small island part of PNG.
Catbalogan,Semirara island....?
We're not in the Philippines.
Go the other way. |
Tobera, "Rabaul Number 4", near Keravat, East New Britain?
evansb hits Tobera.
Please take the thread. |
Thank you dook. I would love to take the "thread", but my photo data base is so basic, PPRruner's would identify the aerodrome in 5 seconds. I hereby declare an OPEN HOUSE.
Why not post anyway - you never know.
Okay. Give me a few minutes.
