Not Tours, but getting closer. The wood isn't an exact match as some of it has gone, but the remnant is there. The image is looking almost due west.

RAF Camp de Poulines
(OH if correct)

nvubu 2nd Mar 2017 22:06

Well done DIBO!

The image is labelled "Vendome 1"

I had located Camp des Poulines in a more northern location from the one you have pointed out - and it didn't match the image at all, so had discounted this aerodrome as Vendome 1. However the road layout and field boundaries above map onto todays image, so I reckon you have it spot on.

Bloody good detective work from my crappy misleading directions with the wood still existing :ok::ok::ok::ok:

I had located the "wood" at the Aerodrome de Blois Breuil, and had jumped to the conclusion that this was Vendome 1.

RAF Shawbury circa 1945

India Four Two 3rd Mar 2017 09:11

I knew it would be easy. A lot more buildings than when I knew it in the 60s, back in the days when it was relatively quiet, before it was infested with helicopters. ;)

Shackman has control.

Shackman 3rd Mar 2017 09:21

Unfortunately not close to stock of pictures/photos, so have to declare Open House.

Something for the weekend - all images are clickable.

For this aerodrome I know exactly where this one is as the road layout is the same now as it was 100 years ago. :ok:

North is in the direction of the white lines at the top of the image.

These were here - nothing remains though. I'm not sure how much help, if any, they are with the search, but I thought you may be interested to see them as they are all taken at this aerodrome.

Heathrow Harry 4th Mar 2017 11:16

Alsace - Lorraine?

nvubu 4th Mar 2017 11:20

That's the right region

Heathrow Harry 4th Mar 2017 12:11

the railway bends to the NE coming from the south - almost all local railways seem to bend the other wayto the NW on modern maps

nvubu 4th Mar 2017 13:01

The railways is still there.

Am just off to Lincoln - 3 hours away, so will be off-line for a while.

Flap40 4th Mar 2017 16:26

I think the village is Puxieux, a few km's west of Metz but i've no idea if the airfield took the same name.

OH if correct.

nvubu 4th Mar 2017 17:12

Well done Flap40, and yes it took the name of the village according to the documents I have.

Open House.

Heathrow Harry 5th Mar 2017 14:13
