This wasn't Ken Hayr was it ?

If it was, I'm looking again at NZ.

JENKINS 22nd Nov 2018 19:51

That's it. Should help you get close albeit not directly to the spot. W-O-W would be close.

dook 22nd Nov 2018 19:55

I knew Ken - great chap.

I asked about NZ in a previous post.

JENKINS 22nd Nov 2018 20:08

No, no. Just a statement, I was wearing pedant hat, sorry. Try me on negative questions, apparently most frustrating.

dook 22nd Nov 2018 20:11

It isn't in NZ is it ?

JENKINS 22nd Nov 2018 20:20

Lovely response! Simple way out, it is in New Zealand. Scene of a family wedding, great fun.

dook 22nd Nov 2018 20:26

I've been through all the ones I can find to no avail - still working on it.

Somebody will now come along and pinch it I bet.

Ken was born in Whangarei but no lake.

JENKINS 22nd Nov 2018 20:30

Jetstar seems to Number 1 on approach. Whangarei wrong island. Oh where is my chum K76?

dook 22nd Nov 2018 20:33

Do you compose crossword puzzles ?

Cows getting bigger 22nd Nov 2018 20:41

That will be Queenstown.

JENKINS 22nd Nov 2018 21:02

Yes, unfair on Dook. No to the compiler question. I certainly use the maps from Flight Radar, and a touch of Welsh deviousness. Hard luck dook, I tried to point - W-O-W refers to the nearby Wanaka on another lake, Wings Over Wanaka where Sir Ken once displayed. My own Ken Hayr story, apart from his being my Air Officer Commanding, refers to his double-hush in a turbine twin, but that is for another time.

With cheerful regret, to you Cows.

Cows getting bigger 22nd Nov 2018 21:09

Jenkins thanks, that took a bit of work. 'Twas only yesterday but this one is somewhat weathered and in need of a paint job. Salty Dogs.

Wheressa An-12 gone ?

Cows getting bigger 22nd Nov 2018 21:43

I figured that was too much of a hint, for now. :)

dook 22nd Nov 2018 21:45

Good job I saw it then.

jensdad 23rd Nov 2018 13:00

Looks Azorean, but not Lajes, I don't think. Santa Maria?

I am with you there - as far as the Azores are concerned. Let's just go through a list. My guess - Flores

dook 23rd Nov 2018 16:21

There is no need for a list - jensdad has provided the answer.

Check it out on GE and the tower in this photograph.

Indeed it is, Santa Maria on Thursday. A rather interesting place with a massive apron, traditional WW2 triangular runway etc. The chap who handled us had been there since the 70s and regailed us with stories of endless jets stopping for a top-up; it's rather dead now. Dook was quick enough to observe another photo, seen below - apparently en-route to Port of Spain. Over to Jensdad.

Thank you CGB. I would love to visit that place. One of those 'classic' airfields from the past. I have nothing sufficiently challenging, so OH!

dook 23rd Nov 2018 21:04

I have though.

JENKINS 23rd Nov 2018 21:18

Speke, I imagine during Becher's Brook.

dook 23rd Nov 2018 21:32

Blimey. How did you find that ?

Your throttles.

JENKINS 23rd Nov 2018 21:38

Thanks. Noted AQ460 and worked from there. Former Squadron Commander had been a Sabre pilot, perhaps on 234. Speke https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....b0300841a7.jpg
buildings were remarkable. To bed now, but not without this which my logbook tells me I have visited once. No memory of the visit. Nearby very impressive World Heritage Site worth a look, reflectively perhaps.

dook 24th Nov 2018 10:06

Morning all.

That seems to be a small airfield. I assume not UK.

JENKINS 24th Nov 2018 10:25

Positive answer. This is not a UK field. Very busy, apparently, in its own country, and there are plenty more nearby. My solitary trip was by Aztec, and the nearest field from my logbook was in a military VIP machine.

The layout of the fields, and the fact that there seem to be hedgerows between them, looks a bit UK-ish to me. I'm struggling to think of a British World Heritage Site that could fit the clue though, unless it's the Roman Baths at erm... Bath?

jensdad 24th Nov 2018 10:28

Oops, sorry, our messages overlapped there. Neewhere near Bath, then :)

dook 24th Nov 2018 11:10

Are we in France ?

dook 24th Nov 2018 11:39

reflectively perhaps
Something to do with mirrors or water ?

JENKINS 24th Nov 2018 12:42

Last two, yes and yes. Shame about Bath, one of my favourite places. Watch this space for future efforts!

dook 24th Nov 2018 12:44

Does "Last two" refer to my two posts or "mirrors or water" ?

JENKINS 24th Nov 2018 12:48

For clarity, yes to France and yes to one of mirrors or water.

dook 24th Nov 2018 12:53

Thank you.

Near Versailles possibly.

Toussus le Noble looks hopeful.

JENKINS 24th Nov 2018 13:48

Very hopeful indeed. Has been active for a long time. Useful field, as was Leavesden in relation to London before cinematography took over. All yours.

dook 24th Nov 2018 13:52

Cheers.

I hope there's nothing on here to give it away quickly.

dook 24th Nov 2018 14:36

What an intriguing guess.

A long way from Woomera though.

Northern hemisphere.

mustbeaboeing 24th Nov 2018 14:43

Newcastle UK NCL. EGNT

Open House if correct

dook 24th Nov 2018 14:50

I wonder what gave that away.

OH

dook 24th Nov 2018 15:26

I shall be more circumspect in future.
