Sorry forgot some of you youngsters might not be familiar with the term although Kenparry was.
Remember when cameras were loaded with film which had to be developed?
A 'contact' print was a print which was the same size as the negative rather than being enlarged which meant with 110 film which was 16mm wide, it was too bl00dy small to see any detail and even with 35mm film it wasn't too good.

eckhard 20th Mar 2018 18:07

We used contact prints to check the navigation accuracy of photo-survey runs in the mid-70s. Mind you, the film was 10 inches wide!

India Four Two 20th Mar 2018 20:24

My first camera was a Brownie Box No. 2 (1901-1935). Quite sophisticated for its time. Three apertures, selected by a slide and one shutter-speed, plus a “Bulb” setting. It used 120 film, which Kodak introduced for this camera.

The contact prints were 3 ¼” x 2 ¼”, which was quite an acceptable size. I still have an album of my first attempts and my brother, who is a collector, still has the camera.

eckhard,

During my career, I had occasion to use vertical aerial photos and they were always contact prints.

dixi188 20th Mar 2018 21:27

Still can't improve the pics. (Need sons help!)

If anyone wants to try, the first pic has a line of F4 phantoms, the second one has 2 lines of UH1s and the third pic is of a B727 approaching the terminal.
They were all taken on the same day in February 1990, and it was about 5 degrees F.

Heathrow Harry 21st Mar 2018 07:25

try

User Cp on top yellow menu line above - Pictures and Albums - create Album - Upload picture - gives you chance to upload 3 jpegs at a time - once uploaded you can copy either the BB or the other link

Go to thread you want to post on - Reply - picture symbol and paste in the link

Only problem is that it seems to only allow 25 to 30 pictures per Album so you have to delete the oldies every so often

dixi188 23rd Mar 2018 08:59

No time to sort pics. so

OPEN HOUSE!

a new pair of glasses?

I'd guess its tropical ..................

chevvron 23rd Mar 2018 18:06

Too many trees for Malta, possibly Pacific Theatre? Tinian?

nvubu 23rd Mar 2018 18:15

Tropical - Yes
Malta - No
Pacific - Not WWII, correct area, but not strictly Pacific though.

Source images are fairly small for this one, so not brilliant quality.

nvubu 24th Mar 2018 00:26

Hope these views are of help.

Not in Malaysia.

No longer resembles an airfield. The runway and surrounding base just looks like a huge scar on the ground in GE

runway was approx NE/SW

dook 24th Mar 2018 16:48

Indonesia ?

nvubu 24th Mar 2018 17:28

Not Indonesia:

Vietnam then ?

Maybe Thailand though.

nvubu 24th Mar 2018 20:37

Yes, it's in Vietnam.

dook 24th Mar 2018 20:49

Might it be Khe Sanh ?

nvubu 24th Mar 2018 22:17

It's not Khe Sanh, but it is another combat base.

SMOKEON 25th Mar 2018 11:01

An Hoa airstrip,Vietnam?

nvubu 25th Mar 2018 11:33

An Hoa combat base it is. SMOKEON you have control.

rather odd - significant displaced threshold at BOTH ends for no apparent reason

chevvron 26th Mar 2018 00:39

Farnborough has displaced thresholds at both ends (in the order of 500 - 600m) purely to restrict the LDA to 1800m as a 'sop' to the local planning authority but that's not Farnborough, I think it's somewhere in Germany associated with a university but can't remember the name.

nvubu 26th Mar 2018 07:04

HH - have you posted a picture as I can't seen one

Heathrow Harry 26th Mar 2018 07:28

https://www.pprune.org/members/32618...ure990-009.jpg

Using the alternative link from the album - can you see it?

This isn't a german University nor is it Farnbro' either .....

At one time it was a lot busier than it is now..................

Not visible on Firefox either. :(

Heathrow Harry 26th Mar 2018 10:55

are you using a desktop /tablet/phone?

Seems to be an increasing problem here - if we can nail when it happens we can try and chase the mods.......

mustbeaboeing 26th Mar 2018 14:54

Cannot see it... iPhone
