That desert looks like the far west to me, but there are no Bakersvilles out that way!

Mark 1, did you mis-read oldpilot55's response as Bakersfield?

nvubu 28th Oct 2012 15:50

I couldn't find a desert in North Carolina - apart from this one - which doesn't look like the desert in the photo.

nacluv 28th Oct 2012 16:00

My first thought was that it is somewhere in NV.

Or CA, NM, AZ. But surely not NC!

nvubu 28th Oct 2012 17:41

I reckon that I42 is correct, as there is a Conover south of Bakersfield in California, although co-incidentally, there is also a Conover South East of Bakersville in North Carolina :ok:

With this in mind, how about Flying S Ranch.

evansb 28th Oct 2012 19:48

The "Chicken Strip" at Saline National Park, Death Valley, California ?

Oldpilot55 28th Oct 2012 22:49

The Conover I was referring to is in California. The strip is very dry and dusty hence my wild guess.

Oldpilot55 28th Oct 2012 23:03

http://flyingadventures.files.wordpr...pg?w=600&h=450

It looks pretty close..windsock in its little white circle. White rocks marking the strip.

Mark 1 28th Oct 2012 23:09

evansb has it. The "Chicken Strip" it is. Made for an entertaining landing in an RV-4!
Located in the Saline Valley in California between Owens Lake and Death Valley.
The strip is an alternative to a 4 hour off road drive to get to the hot springs.

Sorry for the delay. My WiFi was off line.

Oh, and I assumed you meant Conover near Frazier Park, CA (02CL)

Over to you!

evansb 29th Oct 2012 02:38

Thanks Mark! Great challenge! Here is the next mystery airport:

evansb 29th Oct 2012 19:34

Clue: The airport is a gateway to superb ocean fishing.

India Four Two 30th Oct 2012 01:27

Very strange touch-down zone markings. Cuba?

evansb 30th Oct 2012 01:33

Not Cuba, but Spanish speaking. Airport goes by two names.

Duckbutt 30th Oct 2012 09:18

OK not Cuba but is it that general part of the world?

evansb 30th Oct 2012 15:43

Generally yes. Latin America. The geographic name of the airport is misleading...

Duckbutt 30th Oct 2012 16:14

How about Liberia Intl, Costa Rica?

evansb 30th Oct 2012 19:11

Duckbutt is correct.:ok: Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste, 317 km NW of San Jose, Coasta Rica. The airport is also known as Daniel Oduber International Airport. Named after former Costa Rican President Daniel Oduber Quiros, 1974-78.

Your turn.

Duckbutt 30th Oct 2012 19:25

Thanks, took a bit of work with GE that one. Try this:

Looks vaguely like a Jugoslav Air Force reception of a squadron of mothballed F-84's for Tito's new force. Could it be Zadar, perhaps?

aviate1138 31st Oct 2012 06:23

How about Italian, Brindisi perhaps?

Duckbutt 31st Oct 2012 08:29

Brindisi seaplane base it is. As I understand it the cocooned F84's have just been unloaded from a US ship.

All yours Aviate.
