Leylstad it is. There is a Catalina in the picture along with a 747 if you look close enough.

One thing that has always struck me as strange is that there is an ILS on the SW runway (you can see the glideslope to the left of the runway) but the touchdown markers are at the other end.

Ok, my go again then :E

Have a look at the Google Earth image of EHLE and you'll notice what looks like an aircraft museum abeam the RW23 threshhold and there is a B747 there but it doesn't appear in the originally posted pic.

Regards,
BH.

National Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome at Lelystad Airport

The museum is the Aviodrome. Some interesting exhibits.

The Cat is to the left of the second hangar from the bottom. The 747 (admittedly only the nose) is at the very far end of all the buildings. If the pic had been in colour it would have made it too easy:)

LFT's challenge

Google Earth doesn't give a name for the old German airfield, but it's just north of the town called Wittstock.

Location is 53.12N - 12.31E

Open floor if correct.

LFT 4th Nov 2007 06:16

Correct, Wittstock it is,

dash7fan 4th Nov 2007 08:10

It seems to be open:

You did not rule out Switzerland. Winterthur perhaps?

dash7fan 4th Nov 2007 18:05

No, its not in Switzerland, but not far away.

How about Austria? Vienna Schwechat Airport when it was a single runway?

dash7fan 4th Nov 2007 19:08

No Sir, but the hangars (listed buildings, in use since 1916, but not always at this airport) are still in use. The tower and all other buildings, except the small ones, are gone.
