In the early 70's we use to fly the 'straight in' approach shown on the photo (pre-GPWS VC10). However, in the 747 we would fly the curved approach round St Anne Island. Could concentrate the mind in bad weather.
Sorry, nothing to post so; OPEN HOUSE. |
100 pages and ne'er a harsh word said; this must be a record for PPRuNE.
Since we are "Open House", I offer the following: http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...019reduced.jpg No additional points for the aircraft type, I'm afraid. Russ |
Oostmalle ab Zoersel?
No (wherever that is!)
Belgium, I thought it may have been where they held a Chipmunk Rally in 2006.
Mel |
Mel, you obviously get the nil points for type, but still incorrect on the location.
I had never heard of it, thanks for the education. I might Groogel it for somewhere to go, if thay are welcoming of Chippies. Russell. |

The SA-16 Albatross came from Mombassa and was flown and operated by Pan-Am!! The ground engineer was from the UK?? I use to chat with them when passing through Mombassa with a Comet on the way to Nairobi.
As you said the runway was being built, and long before that the Albatross was the only way to get there by air. As you said it was to supply the tracking station on the island. Brian. |
Back to the Chippie pickie - Leicester per chance??
I'd go for Leicester as well, with grass runway 16 to the left and the Chipmunks on asphalt runway 15?
Sid has it. Over to you.
Is that the aerodrome that used to be called Leicester East? (Oadby??) That was part of my grand tour (by bike) in 1966, that particular day I started off from Grantham, visited Rearsby, then Leicester East, then up to Nottingham/Tollerton before cycling back to the youth hostel at Grantham. Grand day that was, the folks at Leicester and Tollerton were friendly (to a 17 year old anorak) and I cycled between the two in an hour which was bloody quick.
Most interesting Speedbird48. I had no idea it was operated by Pan Am. This very Albatross is on display at Castle AFB in the US.
Thanks Russell - open floor folks :ok:
Try this, it's in my neck of the woods: (woods ... hint)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...K/Airport3.jpg |
Is the airport in Massachusetts?
No, it's in Europe.
Sweden and Finland are full of woods, could be up there.
These woods - forest, even, have a significant place in 20th century military history.
Could be the Ardennes, then.
Is it Spa?
Spa it is.
Your shout |
Open House
Try this long shot. No extra point for the aircraft.

Crikey! That's a toughie.... :uhoh:
RAF Valley, Anglesey.
RAF Woodvale
Nr Southport, Merseyside. Open House if confirmed correct: PS Its doing my head in; What aircraft is that?? |
The aircraft has to be British ..... the rivets are sticking out :)
Woodvale it is Tiger Mate, and Phil is right aswell, in one respect, Blackburn Buccaneer.
Crikey, you guys are good. I struggled to see the airfield, let alone identify it!
I did have a ride in a Buccaneer in my CCF youth, yonks ago. What's the hole for? Russ |
I'll put out a fairly modern one as the next challenge.

First hint: West of the Atlantic
Is it Cortez, Colorado?
Believe it to be the Boulder, Colorado (International) municipal airiport. Where I learned to fly. More than one airplane ended up a bit short of Heyden lake just off the end of runway 26. Sorry, nothing to post if I'm right.
Great thread! |
Pardon the delay. I've been away from the PC all day.
S B Glenn has it 100% correct, Boulder, Colorado, KBDU (I think). I think the floor has been declared OPEN. Seacue |
