evansb's challenge

Sooner or later, I'll be correct with Burbank. Perhaps not this time Maybe not even next time, but one day.

Lockheed, anyway.

evansb 19th Jan 2008 01:14

StbdD is correct.:ok: Yes it is indeed Groom Lake, near the site of Watertown, Nevada, now known as "Area 51". Over to you. Oh, by the way Russell, I posted a photo of the Lockheed/Burbank/Bob Hope airport a few months ago.

StbdD 19th Jan 2008 04:22

Cheers evansb, I thought I recognized the ridgeline. Next up:

My apologies...I should keep a closer eye on the list of Aerodromes already listed. I was looking under B for Burbank. And B for Bob. And L for Lockheed. <G>

[edit] I see Bridgeport, Ct, was mentioned November 14 2007 already; I should have got this last one since I used to work there. <Oops> [/edit]

Looks like dash7fan carries the flag.

dash7fan 19th Jan 2008 20:25

Thanks evansb

At the moment only pictures with too many pixels, so open house.

Tks

Russell Gulch 19th Jan 2008 20:51

Oops, crossed with LFT I'll wait for the next one.

LFT 19th Jan 2008 21:15

And I crossed with you but I see you've deleted yours so here goes again -

Russell Gulch 19th Jan 2008 21:28

No probs, LFT, none of us are in a hurry.

Now, what I see is in England: Dilapidated, the paint flaking off, everything falling apart. Nothing that a lick of paint couldn't cure.

Anyway, enough about the aeroplane; the Tower looks fine to me. Lordy knows where...my choice is somewhere in Devon. Or the Derby Dales.

Russ

[edit] and if it's the old Hus Bos Tower, I'll shoot myself[/edit]

Tempsford 19th Jan 2008 21:41

Wombleton?

Flap40 19th Jan 2008 21:48

The hedge behind the tower certainly reminds me of Wombleton and so do the hills but I don't remember the dilapidation or the power lines across the moors.

LFT 19th Jan 2008 22:09

Sorry guys, it's neither,

chevvron 20th Jan 2008 07:12

Dunkeswell?

LFT 20th Jan 2008 08:09

Not Dunkeswell,

chevvron 20th Jan 2008 12:23

Well it's sunny so it can't be too far north (says he fishing for another clue)

621andy 20th Jan 2008 13:15

Wild guesses-

Eaglescott? or Rhigos?

LFT 20th Jan 2008 16:12

Sorry Andy it's neither of those.

LFT 20th Jan 2008 18:51

Ok, I've heard of airfields having a "Strawberry Fly-In" but this airfield would probably have a "Rasberry Fly-In"... :E

LFT 20th Jan 2008 20:04

You guessed right :ok:

LFT 20th Jan 2008 20:40

Ok, I'm on a roll so here's another, and looking more north than it is south... -

cleo 20th Jan 2008 20:54

I'll have a guess at Turnberry

Russell Gulch 20th Jan 2008 20:54

Stretton, perchance (although that's been here before, so can't be.)

LFT 20th Jan 2008 21:01

"I'll have a guess at Turnberry"

Turnberry it is! :ok:

cleo 20th Jan 2008 21:13

Since I'm at my place of employment with no pics to hand its 'Open House' again. :)

REF 20th Jan 2008 22:17

Those last two had me stumped!

As its an open house I'll nip in with this one:

evansb 21st Jan 2008 08:00

Is the airfield in Florida?

REF 21st Jan 2008 17:13

It is in Florida

spook 22nd Jan 2008 08:05

Crystal River CGC?

seacue 22nd Jan 2008 12:39

Looking at Google Earth, Crystal River,FL, seems to be a perfect match. It would seem that spook has it.

spook 22nd Jan 2008 12:52

..but alas I have nothing further to offer - so open house!
