Re: What Cockpit ?
Northrop N9M Flying Wing perhaps.

Re: What Cockpit ?
The N9M is a delta!

Genghis
Must disageee with you there Genghis. It is not a true delta, more like two swept wings joined at the centre line. I will give you the Chord at the centre is boarder than at the tips but in comparison to the Vulcan and Javelin I would not call it a delta. From Wikipedia "The delta-wing is a wing planform in the form of a triangle, named after the Greek uppercase delta (letter) which is a triangle (Δ). Its use in the so called "tailless delta", i.e. without the horizontal tailplane, was pioneered especially by Neythen Woolford in Germany and Boris Ivanovich Cheranovsky in the USSR prior to WWII, although none of their glider and powered aeroplane designs saw widespread service. Among the first engineers to use delta wings in their projects was the 17th century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth inventor, Kazimierz Siemienowicz." Mel |
Re: What Cockpit ?
No, not the N9M and not American.

Re: What Cockpit ?
Perhaps the Horton HO IX/Gotha GO229?

Re: What Cockpit ?
It wasn't a flying wing design. The programme ended when the only example crashed after less than 10 flights.

It's a moot point as to whether a non-straight trailing edge stops an aircraft being a (tailless) delta, but this probably isn't the place to debate it. I'd just say that in my experience the aerodynamics are pretty much the same. Back to the question - bit of a longshot, but is it possibly a Jurca prototype? G |
Re: What Cockpit ?
Just another stab in the dark - Avrocar? Canada's attempt to build a flying saucer

Re: What Cockpit ?
Puzzling..
So, 1. It's not British or American 2. It was experimental,a one off job, and lasted less than 10 flights. 3. It had a special wing but this was not a flying wing. 4. It was from the early 1960's era. 5. Looking at the cockpit it was quite small. Was it French? |
Re: What Cockpit ?
Yup, French. It should be easier now. :)

Re: What Cockpit ?
I was thinking Dassault Balzac, but that's a Delta (plus that cockpit looks far too ergonomic to be a Mirage variant).
So, SNECMA C.450-01 Coléoptère with an annular wing perchance? http://www.unrealaircraft.com/gravit...s/snecma1.jpeg G |
Re: What Cockpit ?
Yes, it was the odd-looking Coléoptère. :ok: Your turn, Genghis.

Re: What Cockpit ?
Haha, thank you- although don't think any of us would ever have got their without the clues. However, best somebody else has a go, I'm waiting for my scanner to come back from being repaired.

Re: What Cockpit ?
Well done Ghengis - I thought it was that brute but I was still digging through my books to find the name..
Mr Grubby - a guess but maybe a Storch or the Morane version? |
Re: What Cockpit ?
I'd say Russian, fixed wing piston-prop trainer, 2 or 4 seats, probably aerobatic.
Not the mythical and long-lost Yak-20 is it? (I'm probably wrong, Yak don't usually use green paint in the cockpit). G |
Re: What Cockpit ?
jabberwok,
nope, sorry. Genghis, No. |
