Re: What Cockpit ?

It is another research aircraft, but more elegant than the one I posted last time.

Just a shot in the dark NASA's M2-F2 Research Aircraft?

Re: What Cockpit ?

This one came later than the M2-F2, which was twice as heavy, yet much smaller.

Cringe
Am I correct in believing this aircraft is American? I know that NASA Flight Research Centre (FRC) at Edwards AFB operated a fleet of lifting bodies from 1963 to 1975 consisting of the M2-F1, M2-F2, M2-F3, HL-10, X-24A and X-24B. The F1, F2 and HL-10 were all much the same size and period. This certainly is not the cockpit of the later two i.e. X24. However I believe the X38 was developed on similar lines, perhaps this cockpit is a very early version of the X38? Which is a big aircraft of comparable weight and is of course much later.

Re: What Cockpit ?

Not X-4, though it is a twin turbojet.

Re: What Cockpit ?

Mel, yes, it is American, but not a lifting body design.

Re: What Cockpit ?

Therefore it has to be the AD-I.

The oblique wing on the AD-1 pivoted about the fuselage, remaining perpendicular to it during slow flight and swinging to angles of up to 60 degrees as aircraft speed increased.

Messerschmitt Me-410?

Re: What Cockpit ?

This is bugging me...

The upright geometry and long nose seem to indicate Me110....but the side glazing does not tally with the images I have of the cockpit....

Or maybe its a FW 182 or other 'prototype...
