I recognised the cockpit straight away because the very first Surveillance Radar Approach (SRA) I did in ATC was a Canadian Air Force CF 104 at Prestwick in 1974. Call sign was Musket 90, in bound from Germany for maintenance at Scottish Aviation who had the contract for all CF104s in Germany. The pilot was a Captain Farley and he was in a hurry to get on the ground as he was short of fuel. They always were. He came down the 31 approach at about 250 knots. I could hardly get my height checks in before the next one was due. Hectic or what !! But he landed. He came up to the tower for a chat and invited me to come and have a look around the aircraft. I will always remember the cockpit. One CF104 departed whilst I was there, so low and fast over a local farm that several cows had heart attacks and died. The **** really hit the fan !!! Great days.

Anyway, I stole someone’s go a few pics back so I will bow out of the next round.

Indeed it is - you have control!

The A-37 must have been one of the most useless military aircraft ever invented. At anything other than light weight in the summer at Barksdale AFB, they were often unable to fly from that massively long runway because the acceleration was so pedestrian and the brakes so poor that TODR was more than ASDA!

Hardly surprising with a 14000lb MTOW and only 2 x 2850lb of thrust.....
