That is it, Ken, in the Jebel Akhdar, The Green Mountain. Very different now than in my 1970 - 76 experience of the area, with many logbook entries from 75/76. I was too late in 70/71 with my Squadron eschewing the Saiq tasks and leaving it to Wessex and Beaver.
Jenkins, thank you. My literally passing acquaintance with Saiq was almost 50 years ago, when it was just a very rough gravel strip, visited then only (I think) by armed Provosts (piston version) and Beavers. Our only interest in it was being aware that those aircraft might be around.
As dook alludes, 4FS. For the uninitiated, Saiq is on top of the Jebel at around 5000ft, but only a few miles away and very much lower is another strip at Firq. The Sultan's troops on top of the Jebel were resupplied by air from Firq, and there was a suitable necktie for those who had done four Firq-Saiq trips.
Stand by for the next.

Yes, you are in the right area. This was the first Army airfield in the San Francisco Bay area, opened about 1919. The siting board was led by Colonel Hap Arnold.
It would be good if you could find the field's name.

Yes, Crissy Field. Photo from 1990, when we were ferrying a B737-200 from UK to Honolulu, and had just departed Oakland on the final leg.
Wider angle view, showing Golden Gate bridge. Also showing that, at last, I have found my way around posting photos. I knew it was an RTBQ issue - it was just a matter of finding the right bit of the BQ.
The Wikipedia entry for the field is worth a read, as there is quite a bit of history to it.
dook, you have control.

The 727 does indeed look gaudy. Do you remember when Margaret Thatcher covered up the model fin of a BA aeroplane decorated in the same way.
A few of those weird "artwork" schemes came from this large continent also.
