KeMac.

Not Mwanza, it has a tarmac runway.

This place is further south east in a reserve. Now that should give it away !!!

Yes !!! Sirwandu. Well done.

There are four strips in the Selous Game Reserve.
Mtemere, Sirwandu, Kiba and Stieglar's Gorge.

You have control.

The hangar roof says United Air Lines in both photos. The DC-3 is painted in United's scheme in this second photo, which was initially posted for a short while.

Now busily searching for likely places United would have had a hangar in the late '30s or early/mid '40s.

Edited to add: Perhaps the other plane in one of the pictures is from American Airlines.

Because of the hills, I nominate California, specifically Los Angeles, KLAX.

Sorry Gents, not Oakland, nor Los Angeles. Not in California. This aerodrome has historical significance. The photos were taken in 1948.

Mr_Grubby is correct. Elko, Nevada was the terminus for America's first scheduled commercial air mail flight in April, 1926. You have control.
