Well, a pilot school was opened there in 1935, with national scheduled services using Ju-52s beginning in 1936. Customs arrived 1946 and it opened to international traffic thereafter. It remained the national and international airport for the city until 1959 when the then military field nearby was upgraded because of space limitations at this airfield. Certainly I recall pilots telling me that they flew there from the UK in the like of Vikings.

That's it! Yes, Son Bonet (LESB). Of course Son San Joan is now the main airport, having been a EdA base for Sabres and T-33s years ago, but this field served well for many years. You can still see the odd Dak there and often AN-2s seem to transit. You have control! RR

Must be East Anglia. The hills resemble Langdon Hills west of Basildon but the R/W direction at Thurrock would not fit, so I'll go with Elmsett. Long time since I have been to either, maybe the hill has grown.
