Obviously ex-military now civil using part of the original structure. AEF/UAS chipmunk from Cambridge perhaps looking at the towering terrain thereabouts. My guess is Bourn!

866, the only correct part of your guess is that it was a Chipmunk.

The chances are that it was based at RAF Finningley.

Indeed it is, around 1983/1984.

Back to you if you've found more than one old photo. Much more interesting. Otherwise open house.

Correct - as it was in 1981.
The Dakota on the tarmac was the last one in the RAF, I believe.

Yes, the British European Airways Viscount is out of its normal comfort zone - but it's not Tangiers.

Yes (topical or what!). Mr Grubby's surmise is correct. BEA V806 G-AOYH operating a Malta Airlines service in November '62. This little whiff of nostalgia would have been a hint if required.

In those pre-Gaddafi days the local Libyan wine was cheaper than the bottled water in the hotels.

So which is it - Benghazi?

I vaguely remember flying out in a RAF Britannia to Nairobi in 1964 as a small boy and stopping - few times I suppose (how far could a Britannia hop?) but think we must have stopped in Benghazi. Interesting pictures.

PS: Open house (if appropriate)

Sorry if there was any confusion - but I thought I had said yes to Benghazi!
A current photo might be even more interesting.
