Tom.

Could it be the SBD production line at the Northrop Douglas Plant at El Segundo, California.

It's the film set for that film with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel.(don't remember the name but she's 'seeing' Kurt Russell and they're both working in an aircraft factory while hubbie Ed Harris is away at the war)

Clint, that's a very good guess and you're close - but no cigar yet.

Note that these are not SBD Dauntless'. Also, check the completion dates - I think Northrop's relationship with Douglas at El Segundo ended in 1937.

Cheers,

Tom

chevvron, I think I've seen the movie (title??), but I doubt seriously this pix represents any scene thereof.

Cheers,

Tom

Nope, they're not "Vultee Vibrators" either.

But you are much closer than before (Inglewood, that is - Downey is a different place, and just a bit further away).

BTW, El Segundo is also known locally as "El Segundo, where the sewer meets the sea."

Cheers,

Tom

Tom.

"El Segundo, where the sewer meets the sea."

So I take it the locals don't swim in the sea. They just go through the motions.

Yup, pretty heavy bacteria, especially after a leak or heavy rainstorm.

OK, a hint:

Sjøfly.

Yup Hawthorne I reckon.

El Segundo The tide brings it south past the refinery to Redondo Beach, wanna get a good dose of PCBs, Salmonela etc., go there, I did and nearly
got the whole set I didn't get in Nigeria. Though you can get a good pint of Nigerian Lager in Hennessey's on Catalina

Ding ! Correct !

It's Hawthorne, KHHR, also known as Jack Northrop Field. The airplanes under construction are N3PB patrol bombers destined for the Norwegian Naval Air Force.

Here's an N3PB during sea trials: (I know it's against the rules, but can anyone hazard a guess as to what "aerodrome" is featured in the picture?).

Otherwise Clint, over to you !

Cheers,

Tom

Well,

As it's a test flight I might suggest it is Lake Elsinore, California.

Just a thought.

And a good thought, at that ! Yes, it's at Lake Elsinore, where Northrop first flew the N3PBs.

merlinxx, Hennessey's must be in Avalon then, eh? I usually made it no further than the airport at the NW end of the island.

Cheers,

Tom

With the proximity of houses to the airfield, the age of the photo, and the private aircraft hangars, I decided it was in the United States. The airfield looks like an early residential airpark. Is it York, Pennsylvania ?
