DAMBUSTERS (Film) Remake - 2009
Peter Jackson, (3-time OSCAR film director, producer and screenwriter, best known for directing The Lord of the Rings trilogy) announced back in 2006 that he had bought the rights to remake the DAMBUSTERS and intended on going ahead with the project.

There has been little news since and most of it very low key, but it is now confirmed that filming will start for the $66 million project in 2009.
They are going to find 'another appropriate name' for the dog.
The script has been written by Stephen Fry.
Casting is still to be announced.
Following the 'BofB casting' thread, what do we think of this project that IS going to happen?
Who should be cast
Cast list from original:
Richard Todd as Wing Commander Guy Gibson
Michael Redgrave as Dr. Barnes Wallis
Ursula Jeans as Mrs Wallis
Basil Sydney as Sir Arthur Harris
Patrick Barr as Captain Joseph Summers
Ernest Clark as Honorable Ralph Cochrane
Derek Farr as Group Captain J N H Whitworth
Charles Carson as Doctor
Stanley Van Beers as Sir David Pye
Colin Tapley as Dr. W H Glanville
Raymond Huntley as Laboratory Official
Harold Goodwin as Wing Comdr. Gibson's Batman
Richard Leech as Squadron Leader H.M. Young

Why not just keep it's proper name ?
It's a rhetorical question. I know why not. Because the do-gooders and PC brigade would denegrate one of the greatest Englishmen ever, who risked his life countless times, gaining a VC in the process, fighting a genuinely racist regime.
How did we ever get by without them ?

Why not remake The World at War? The PC brigade can then have a field day and all of us would have to apologise for something or other. One never knows, perhaps the little Georgian might emerge as a hero and the mad Austrian as an honourable ethnic cleanser!
Could never happen again though, we now have the EU.
What I mean to say is leave out the dog altogether, it would cause too much controversy.
If that makes little sense, then so does a remake, or is it a modern slant, on the heroic and legendary Dambusters. imho.

I was in a tropical fish shop on Monday and I noted that a particular fish I liked when I kept fish was a nigger barb, orange with black vertical bars, but now it is called something else, which I thought was crass.
As for Guy Gibson's dog. It was called Nigger and no amount of PC crap can change it. When I was young I too had a dog called Nigger. GG's dog is an important part of history and the name should remain untouched. The film, if made, will forever be known as the film that didn't stick to the facts, albeit a Labrador dogs name. But that dog was a part of Gibson and it is NOT for others to change history.
Anyway, I doubt that anyone can ever capture the atmosphere of the original Dambusters film, however hard they try.

Not just the name of Gibson's dog, PP. It was also the code word for a successful dam breach.
I totally agree with you - It is not for others to change history.

It seems that the world today wants to re-write history so that anyone who so much as swore at someone else is vilified as a war criminal, let alone name a dog with a word that has become un-PC. I suppose that in these PC, huggy fluffy days the name of the dog will always be a bone of contention. However, if they change the name they move away from historical accuracy. The name of the dog was also the code name for the successful breach of the Mohne Dam.

Brian and S'Land - I didn't think of that! See, another part of history apparently being swiped from history, and yet a vital, nay pivotal, moment in a true to life film.
It makes me mad. What with the PC'ers and Elf 'n Safety what is the world coming to?
Brian in answer to your time question. The time is PCT in San Fransisco where the owners of PPRuNe reside. Usually six hours but we retarded ours, if you see what I mean!

Ahh...now Casino Royal was originally a 1 hour, made for US TV Drama back in 1955...and just for the Americans, Felix Leiter was the swarve brit and 'Jimmy' Bond the hero...and the Peter Sellers spoof doesn't count, so not letting you have that!!

Casino Royale (1967)
Directed by Val Guest, Ken Hughes. With Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven. In an early spy spoof.........
The Daniel Craig version was certainly an improvement on this cr@p
