Thanks David. A nice one, and good to see that the Winstead is still around and flying today!

Here we go:

A good shot LM - it's not actually a Verville, BUT, it is similar and designed by the man.

On second thoughts LM, as it is outwardly identical to one of the Verville's, I will accept either the Verville model or the actual aircraft name as identification for the challenge.

Evening Graeme

The Gamma S...?
I don't have it as the S - that's listed as a floatplane from what I can see?

Should I send some warm winter clothing over to you?

You do know now that we will all be charged for using the sun...?...

Gamma L...?
That'll do nicely Graeme Seems some element of confusion in Aerofiles. This is the description of the General Aircraft of 1916:
1916 = 2pOBF pusher; no data. Alfred Verville. Twin floats were replaced with wheels for winter operations off the ice of Lake St Clair. In its first flight with wheels in Jan 1917, the pilot overshot the landing area and ended up in open water, destroying the plane.

The floatplane was model "Gamma S," and it was this second plane that crashed after it had been mounted on wheels and rechristened the model "Gamma L." Verville apparently also designed a tractor version of the seaplane.
And here is what seems to be the identical aircraft under Verville:
1915 Verville (G P Maiorana coll)

1915 = 2pOB/OBF; 80hp LeRhône pusher, replaced by Hall-Scott(?). Verville's first design, looking somewhat like a de Havilland DH-2.

Anyway all yours Graeme

Well Ken, it's probably David's really, I just looked a little further based on his answer. I actually thought it was some sort of Gunbus...

Wait for David or post one?

The cold Winter is already here! Temp at 0800 on Sunday morning here was -9C and this morning it was a balmy -7C! Parts of Wales have dropped to -17C! No snow here, but other parts of UK have been hit hard. We're told this will be with us for another week or so albeit not perhaps as cold as it has been. Only plus is lovely clear skies - but clearly that lady who has control of the sun is teasing us - we get the light, but not the heat!

Go for it Graeme - the General Gamma L was what I was ideally looking for, and you came up with the correct model so I'm sure David won't object.

I quite like it when its dry and clear like today - mind you I don't like the heating bill at the end of the month .

heating bill
Gas? Wood? Both?

Mostly gas where I am...(shuttup David)...wood is getting harder to come by with council rules and such. New homes are not allowed to have wood heaters.

Oil central heating plus a wood burner. As we're in a rural area we can burn wood or coal. The plus is we have our own wood, so to speak - we own a small area of woodland, so we have enough to support us.

Now back to the challenge, I have seen this somewhere....British?
